Then don't get them? there is nothing stating you HAVE to get an epidural during childbirth.

That's so mean for people to tell you it hurts. Everybody is different and honestly the anxiety gets me more then the pain. Don't worry it's just a pinch.

It doesn't hurt when I get my blood taken but they say an iv is far worse 😒 and that scares me lol @jana.bear

You technically don't need an IV either unless you need to get antibiotics for strep B or something.

Why do you have to? The only thing is that they have to thread the needle thing in to your vein, otherwise it's not painful.

You don't have to have an IV. You can request not to have one unless it's necessary.

I honestly think that IV pain depends on who does it. Its the same pinch as a blood draw and then usually it goes away but if it's done incorrectly it can get sore. I've made them do it over in a different spot (by a different person) if there's even the slightest discomfort. It shouldn't hurt.

Getting my blood drawn hurt worse than an iv!

You can ask for a saline lock instead of having a full iv so it's there just in case.

The IV hurts me worse in my left arm than right but it only hurts a couple minutes and than goes away..its not fun but its fine.

ivs don't hurt a little baby pinch is all. the epidural looks way scary...

Epidural is what I'm most scared to have

an epidural can be a little painful but not always. I was terrified of it so I didn't get one with my first. I got over my fear for my daughter and it was amazing! I didn't feel anything, I couldn't even tell I was still in labor. that 5 or 6 seconds of discomfort is definitely worth it in my opinion!

@jennaboo, I hate needles to and yes they definitely do hurt but only if they have to move around for an vein. However I would recommend that you be in active labor before getting the epidural unless the doctor tells you that you need an c-section. I have had it in pain and it was heaven but I've also had not in pain and it hurt like heck. I am afraid of needles also because my burns make it hard for them to get a vein because of scaring so that is why I hate them. They couldn't get my central vein and they didn't even numb me.

iv? iv is the same as a shot. epidural is on your back and the needle is huge.

My doctors used a numbing shot before putting in the IV and you can't feel a thing
