Curious about water breaking

When your water breaks do you immediately start feeling pain and go into labor or no? If not are you supposed to rush to the hospital anyway? I'm so clueless lol

Mine broke at the mall... Lol I went straight to the hospital, was admitted and never did start having contractions on my own. They started pitocin and I got my epidural. Had my little love the next mornin

Mine broke at work, no immediate pain. I went home and stopped for food on the way. I knew they would starve me at hospital. By the time I checked in it was 2 hours later. What surprised me is how more came out with each contraction for almost the entire labor. Even stranger they found I had a second bag of water around DS and after so long they broke that one for me, pain & contractions progressed very quickly after they did that.

Mine broke in the hospital. I was having very mild contractions....once my water broke they became incredibly painful within minutes!!

If it was me and my water broke at home I would go right in. You never know how fast you will dilate after that point. My water broke on its own and I went from 3 to 10 in about 7 to hours with the epidural.

My water broke while I was lying in bed during the early stages of labor. I was at the hospital and I just thought I peed the bed! I felt no more pain than I had been feeling but I was nearly out if fluid when it happened.

My water broke as well very conveniently I might add. I woke up at 0530 for work, went for my morning pee and it just happened on the toilet. At first I didn't know it was happening, but when I realized I was still "peeing" without feeling the peeing sensation I knew it was my water.

I had no pain so I let it come out then jumped in the shower where more started coming out. I waited til it stopped and got out, put on a pad and headed to the hospital. I took my time so between my water breaking and me checking in about 2 hours had went by.

FYI, the pad did absolutely nothing for me. I was drenched by the time I made it to the hospital. Thank goodness for leather seats 😈

My water broke at home with my son at 33 weeks. I started to have contractions right after that and I had him 10 hours later. With my daughter, my OB broke it about an hour before I had her. It's weird though...with my son I heard a pop and stood up to see what it was and water gushed out of me. It doesn't really stop either...with each contraction more water comes out each time.

There's no need to rush. My hubby is an ER doctor so luckily I knew this ahead of time when mine broke at home. I just took a shower, put on a pad and relaxed. There were no contractions, so we just took our time.

Doctors worry about infection if you haven't given birth within 24 hrs of it breaking so I went to hospital 2 hours later even though contractions hadn't started.

I was induced the next morning.

It depends on your doctor. I will have to go in right away because my doctor only gives us a 12hour window to have the baby or he takes it because infection can actually start that early. im not complaining because I want a strong little man!

Mine broke at home. I went in right away and I believe you are supposed to go in right away. I had no pain and was given pitocin also. The one good thing about your water breaking is that there is no question that you are in labor.

Mine broke when I was sleeping and I had no contractions. I went to the hospital and they ended up giving me pitocin to make them start.

If water breaks, from my experience of doctors telling me, go to the hospital right away or I'd get an infection. I remember stopping by Subway after my water broke with my second pregnancy but my DH's first that it might be a while before he could go out of the hospital to grab a meal. I was waiting in the car with some water coming out with no contractions. They finally came around a couple of hours later. It all depends on individuals but for sure go to the hospital when the water breaks. It's one of the truest labor signs. :)

My water broke at 4am while i was sleeping and i was in no pain! I took a short shower and put on make up and we were on the way lol! I started having pain around 6:30 and had my son at 9:34am. Now with my second im hoping she can come that same way lol!!

Aww I can't wait. I want mine to break like in the movies and maybe get all pretty before going to the hospital like kourtney kardashian did lmao haha ?. My main question was really do you have to go after it breaks or do you wait for contractions to come. Thank you all for sharing your experiences :)

Two out of my three previous pregnancies resulted in water breaking. I think many women did not experience water breaking before going to the hospital because they had it planned or induced. However if you experience water breaking contractions may be before or following, it just depends. With my first, I had contractions for 8 hours and the hospital sent me back home telling me to return when they got closer and stronger- then the water broke after I took a nap at home.

The second time was when I got out of the car in the rain to go to Applebee's- water just broke and I had no pre labor signs at all. My husband thought it was just rain and I said... Heck no, it's running and very WARM!! Lol

Now this time I'm nervous as I'd be teaching around that time at a college (5 classes this semester) and I'll be wearing black pants all the time. If it ever breaks I'd be calm and dismiss the class. :). Funny, all of my three children came on a weekend but they all were summer babies! :)

My friend just delivered a few weeks ago. Her water broke while she was at home but other than that was having no labor pains or contractions. She went to the hospital bc once your water breaks they want you to deliver within 24 hours to avoid potential infection.

For most women it doesn't break on its own but if it does u usually go into lave right away and if they break it ur labor usually gets worse right away. If it breaks you need to go to the hospital because baby can get an infection easily

Most peoples water does not break. Your more likley to have contractions and have it broken at the hospital.

However, my water did break with my first son. I called the dr and was told to rest at home untill my contractions got strong and regular or to come in within 5-6 hrs of my water breaking. Despite my waters breaking i had to be induced with pitocin because i did not get a pattern going for labor.
