So, as I get farther along, I have been looking into different options for what I am gonna do after the baby comes. One big thing is breastfeeding! It has so many good things for the baby, but I have a mental illness, that requires medication. So, I would really love feed back from any mom's like me. Or anyone's input really. I just need help knowing what to do. Because, I wanna breastfeed but I don't know what will happen without medication.
My doctor and my pediatrician both approved me for 100mg of Zoloft. The only side effect they warned me about was a sleepier baby...which I have yet to see. A lot of the old research says to stay away from these types of medications but new studies are proving that even though some pass to the baby the side effects are small and tend not to outweigh the benefits for the mama😊
Go on lactmed and check. Many medications are safe while BF. Check, check, and double check. Call a lactation consultant. Talk to your doctor. Always explore your options
What medication do you take? As a nurse, I would say to stray away from breastfeeding if you are taking medications, as they do pass to baby. And the effect will be stronger as baby is so small. I'm assuming that you are either on a barbiturate or some form of controlled narcotic, which will definitely pass to baby and can cause bad effects and withdrawal. If anything, do formula.
