tried all day yesterday to get Wyatt to latch .. he did for a few seconds but I guess he has a shallow latch whatever that is so its SUPPER SUPPER painful to have him on my boob or have my boob be touched by anyone. they told me that because of his latch they it could always be like that and might not get better.. I'm really upset I wanted to try and breast feed as long as I could I didn't want to stop the first day. but he's not getting what he needs and the pain is unbearable . they gave him 1oz of formula to get some calories in him because he wasn't getting anything in him from 11:00 yesterday morning till about 4:30 yesterday afternoon:/
definitely ask your lactation consultant about a possible lip tie or tongue tie. If your nipples are inverted or slight inverted it can also cause shallow latch. did they try different positions to get him to latch better? I second on hand express colostrum only because colostrum is filled with tons antibodies.
Well thats great mom! Dont beat yourself up, baby has enough in his tummy to where the colostrum she gave off the spoon is enough. They actually didn't have to introduce formula, baby is still full from your tummy. Usually your milk doesn't come in for like 3 days and baby is fine with the small amount of colostrum.
I have nipple cream to use they gave me and idk if they clipped anything on him I'm pretty sure they haven't but maybe then need to and it might help him. I really want to try and breast feed but I also don't want him to starve. they had the lacatation lady come in and she expressed some colostrum onto a spoon and fed it to him off a spoon because he wouldn't latch and he did that 3 times but that's about all he would do . so they had to give him formula
If your in the hospital have a lactation nurse come and help you. My baby was tongue tied but we had no issues...they clipped him the 3rd day but he was fine before it. Or if you want to at least give baby colostrum ask for help of hand expression so baby can get the best part. Oh yea ask for some nipple cream to relieve pain if they haven't already given you some. Congrats on baby!!
they didn't say anything about that @tiffrae ive heard of it but they haven't said anything
gonna warn you.. when they go to look for that they have to make your baby cry... like a good angry cry... and it will make you want to cry... I was a wreck when they checked my son.
