Is it normal for preschoolers to not be able to take a lunch? I went to meet my 4 year olds teacher yesterday and she told me that they aren’t allowed any food. I know I can’t be the only parent with these concerns..
No, we do foodservice for Prek and the only thing I can think of is they want him to be provided a meal by the school so they can claim reimbursement from the government.
You’re correct!!! At first I was like oh it’s kind of a little weird that they’re just eating in the classroom but I get it so they don’t get trampled by any of the older kids
It’s not optional at my sons preschool either. They do “family style” meals and teach the kids how to serve themselves and stuff.. Parker doesn’t always like what’s on the menu but usually he does..
Hmm I wonder that’s one of the things they’ll be teaching them 🤔 they have the food delivered to the classroom. I hope he likes what’s on the menu 😅
@jays.mom., more than likely if the food is being delivered to the classroom vs them going to the lunch room,, they are doing family style meals. That’s exactly how my sons preschool is ( he attends headstart ) and honestly ,, he loves it! They don’t force them to eat anything, so if he doesn’t like something on his plate it’s not a big deal.. like I said pj doesn’t always like what’s on the menu but a majority of the time he does :) they serve like smoked sausage/ potatoes/ green beans ,,, chicken and noodles,,, grilled cheeses ,, just all kinds of stuff.
I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be optional. I will say, that I have my oldest buying lunch at elementary school, and while it’s not cheap in the long run, he’s trying so many new foods and actually requests things I never would’ve thought he’d eat! It’s done great for his pickinesss
That’s how it went with my oldest, this pre-K that he is attending has a good delivery service and they bring it to the classroom. My middle one isn’t as picky so I’m hoping he’ll do good.
I’ve never heard of this. The ones here usually offer breakfast and lunch!
They offer breakfast and lunch, we just can’t pack a lunch or breakfast for them.
@jays.mom., I wouldn’t understand why they wouldn’t allow you too! May be because if a child brings something else that they don’t have, a child might want what that child is eating🤷🏻♀️
@bsandra, probably all the above, it just stocked me cause we didn’t put our oldest into pre-k so this is new territory for me. We’ll find out later on today what the whole ordeal is 🤓
My daughters preschool was optional. They had a food program offered. You just couldn't bring any peanut products cause one kid had an allergy.
@jays.mom. lol. That's how Kai was. One year I took her lunch then I joined the food program the next cause I got tired of making it lol then she was like "my friends had fried rice today no fair" after begging for a lunchbox lol
@ksmommyx3, I wonder if ours offers a food program and if they do I hope they’ll explain it more today. If I don’t have to make a lunch, I don’t want to. I remember my oldest would come home with a lunchbox full of food after school, so we wasted so much money and so much food.
@jays.mom. same. I was glad when they started the food program. Much easier and less time consuming thinking of what she'd want since she changes her mind every other day lol. Most preschool do offer a food program ..free or a couple dollars a week so hopefully yours does
Usually you do unless they have a food program which is optional. I would check with the rules of the school.
I’ll ask when we go to orientation this afternoon.
I thought so. Also, I can completely understand if it’s for allergy reasons, but she just said it’s not allowed, James isn’t my picky kid but he also doesn’t eat everything out in front of him. I hope the menu is appetizing 🤞
@jays.mom., maybe it’s too hard for the littles to open lunches and they are on a time limit and the teacher helping everyone would take awhile. Do you have the option to see what their lunches are so you can have an idea?
@supermomof4, that may be it!! We have orientation today and we’ll get a menu I’m hoping. I know that I won’t be the only parent that has these questions.
When he was in daycare yes. Public school we were allowed to bring in food.
He’s going to preschool at a public school, I could understand if it was for like allergies but the teacher said it’s not allowed, unless he has dietary restrictions.. I go to orientation today so I’ll just ask more questions.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
TWW!!

Short Luteal Phase?
I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
My daughter’s preschool was like that. They served lunch to all the kids and didn’t want kids bringing their own foods because then some kids might get jealous over what other kids have. It’s also easier to get them to eat when they were all eating the same food. My son went to 3 different preschools and one of them served food, but kids were allowed to bring food if they wanted to. My son usually ate both, at least that’s what I was told.
