Bottle feeding help needed!!!

So George is on formula. when we bought him home we followed how they were feeding him in hospital which was just over an oz every 3 hours. He no longer waking for a feed every 3 hours like he did before and is taking anywhere between 1-3oz when he does. Do you think I should just feed him on demand?

Bottles are a completely new realm for me! I’ve only breastfed on demand so I feel like i haven’t got a clue what I’m doing!

Noah is exactly the same! He was on an ounce in hospital but wasn't waking for feeds so I had to wake him, he is now on 3oz but doesn't always finish it all but he wakes himself up for feeds now.

Little George is just getting himself into his own routine

@mrsbodell, I think 3oz every 3 hours is good. If you do the waking up by changing his bum every 3 or so and then feed him hopefully he will get into that routine you start him in. I use to write down in a note pad what time i fed and changed my girls, weither it was dry or dirty bum and how many oz’s they took. I also wrote who fed them. It was really just to keep ourselves on track to be honest. x

We are feeding bobby every 4 hours like he was in hospital but have upped the oz, as he was hungry.

We don’t wake him in the night he wakes us now so it’s anywhere between 3-5 hours from last bottle.

I would wake him as he is diddy but as he’s demolished another 3 oz he seems to be doing just fine, maybe if he is at birth weight or over then move to demand? Xx

He fed just after 10 then woke again at 2 and 5 and had 3oz both times. He was weighed on Tuesday at 5lb6 with is 5oz over his birth weight 💪🏻 I think I’m just going to feed him if he wakes but wake him if it starts getting towards 4 hours

@vixster, @georgina-ox, @tam96, @casey19, @chloeanabelle.xo, I’ve just woken him up by changing his nappy. Took him a while and he wouldn’t latch onto the bottle properly but once he did he flew through 3oz and gone straight back to sleep

When cjay first left the nicu he was having between 1oz and 2oz everything 3 hours, but it seemed to be too much for him so i started to feed on demand, and it worked great for us, but i never let him go over 4 hours because he lost nearly a pound in weight after birth so i was scared he wouldn't end up putting weight back on🤦‍♀️ stupid thinking looking back because he ended up being a right chunk but he was my first baby haha! I hope little George is doing good anyway hun! X

The baby who was discharged same time as Ailsa was bottle feeding and they said wake until he reached term and birth weight. Then health visitor would check every week once he started on demand feeding xx

if ye Google his weight it tells ye roughly how much he should be having and then you can work out the hours you can leave him with him having enough if that makes any sense, but me personally would leave him to let you know when he wants it because he definitely will, it is totally different to breastfeeding cos that is on demand but there easily overfed on bottles but your doing great 💪 xx

Usually they say wake them until there above there birth weight again and then you don't have to but am not sure about prematures, how long does he not wake for? I leave kane always have cos when I had my Adam I over fed him by waking up through the night I didn't realise he didn't need it though the night because he's had enough of it in the day if that makes sense. He will let you know when he's hungry just go with his flow. But I wouldn't let him go any longer than 5/6 hours xx

The longest he’s gone is about 4 1/2 hours and that was after he finished 3oz. He did 3oz just before 7 and he hasn’t started stirring yet

@vixster, @georgina-ox, his last feed was just before 7 and he did a full 3oz which is very unusual for him. I think I’m going to give him another 15 minutes and try wake him. The only problem is if I wake him or try change his nappy to wake him he just get too tired to feed

When newborn I used to wake mine every 4hrs. I changed nappy first to wake them up a bit. Oldest had a little jaundice so midwives told me to wake him & I just did with the others idk why really, I think I just liked to know they was getting plenty. Some people say never wake a sleeping baby and they will wake when hungry. You could try just feeding on demand and only waking him if he’s gone too long as with him being early & little he will need to feed quite often xx
