Looking for advice from mommas with toddlers and older-
Mowgli climbed into his playpen for the first time ever a couple days ago! It's really neat to see because the bed is by his playpen which he used for leverage and daddy helped him make sure he didn't hurt himself when he front flipped into his playpen 😅😂
He tries climbing out but isnt there yet. I also make sure we don't have any big stuffed animals or pillow is he can use as a step ladder 😅
But what do I do to help keep him contained and entertained once he can no longer use his playpen?
Most of downstairs is baby proofed but I still wouldn't trust him to roam around on his own if I had to step outside (which I do frequently). Usually ai just pop him in his playpen....
A baby monitor would only tell me what's happening when is happening it won't actually help me keep him from getting into something somehow... ( we've lived in extremely tight quarters so I have not needed a baby monitor yet and he's already 18 months)... when I'm doing basic chores like laundry or dishes he's fine roaming around and I have no problem stopping what I'm doing to redirect him. But what about the other times I need him in something?
What do you mommas use to keep little explorers safe when you're not right under them?

How often do you need to do this and for how long? When my daughter was younger & I needed to take a shower I would put her in a highchair with some toys and music, in the doorway of the bathroom. I also used the highchair when I needed to bring groceries in from the car. If it's just a short time a highchair would be fine.

That would be helpful but Mowgli mastered climbing out of his high chair about a month ago :/
@familygrown Hmmm...what about a video cam that you can watch from your cell phone? If you can gate him into one room with cameras you can keep an eye on him. You could have special toys or sensory activities that are new and only for this time to try to keep his attention.
That might be doable
@familygrown I'm not sure any other way.. I hope that helps
Damn if only we had THAT much space 😅
@familygrown yea its probably expensive😐
Maybe try one of those bigger play pens or a baby gate that's a circle. I personally just keep my entire house baby proof so they can run around while I go smoke a cig.
Thats my vice and need too. But hes so everywhere and we dont have a gate for the stairs or a lock for the toilet because he likes climbing the stairs with us and like showing off the fact that he can flush the toilet 😅 if we don't go to the stairs with him he usually just weights at the bottom and he's ready to start potty training so I don't want to keep him from doing the natural things that we all know how to do in the bathroom :/ one of those bigger playpens or Gates sound super helpful
