Breastfeeding moms have a question...
My son is 8 weeks old and I breastfeed only.. last two days he has been latching on but I don’t think he is sucking to Sri k. He stays on for about 20 mins and falls asleep I still sit him up and then he wakes after a while like he is still hungry. My breast are still full and leaking as if he did t drink anything at all.. how do I know if he is drinking?? He is latched on that much I feel.. I end up having to pump because I start leaking. Any advice?
Have you tried un latching and re latching go make sure he’s deep enough
@alishap1212, I don’t think it’s clogged cause I’m leaking everywhere..maybe I’m just filling up faster?? Cause I pump 20 mins after feeding him cause I get engorged
@joannekk88, oh that’s right you did mention that sorry I’m tired it was a rough night last night lol ... might be worth it to call the dr and let them know he’s not latching good they might want you to see a specialist... is he having wet diapers
@alishap1212, no worries haha I k ow those nights.. and yea he has wet diapers and is sleeping fine not fussy.. it’s just so confusing
My kid still uses me as a damn pacifier! Drives me nuts right now! But honestly I could tell he was eating verses just comfort suckling because my breast would get soft and you can also tell by the way they suck. I feel eating is more of an aggressive and more frequent sucking verses comfort sucking with they do at longer intervals. If you have any lactation consultants around or they have one at the hospital you can also go down and do a weighing before and after a nursing session to see precisely how much he is drinking. Also check to see if his hand is clenched or open and relaxed as clenched can indicate he is still hungry.
Does nursing hurt you at all? Could be a lip or tongue tie that is causing issues with proper milk transfer too. :/
His hands are open then sometimes clenched. And no doesn’t hurt me.. he making movements with his mouth like he sucking but after feeding him it’s like I have a huge let down and leak everywhere so I don’t know if he ate or not
He could be suckling like a paci. Both of my kids do this when nursing sometimes. You can usually tell if their drinking by the noise they make like a swallowing noise. He could also be cluster feeding because of a growth spurt as well.
You know by the amount of diapers. Trust your diaper count. A wet diaper is one that if you dropped it on the ground would plop.
You should see movement close to his ear when he’s really swallowing. If he’s just suckling it’ll be smaller movement closer to him mouth. Secondly I’d message your breast to let the milk come down. This will remind him what he’s supposed to be doing.
