What baby food did everyone start with? Is there a specific way you should do it or just anything?

And that info came.from my DOCTOR who has an I office specialized Pediatrician that works with the hospital my son was born at and they work with each other. Not everything online makes you a genius and most decent doctors do their dudiligence to stay up to date as misdiagnosis or recommendations causing harm could cause them to lose their license. It's pretty arrogant to presume that you actually educated your doctor on the proper way to approach feeding a child as well as disappointing that you would use your opinion to shame another mom just because you disagree

Hey momma you do you! I started my son on cereal at 3.5 months then pureed at 4.5 as he was eating over 50oz a day of formula. The only reason the recommendation switched from 4 to 6 months to start food was for ALLERGY PREVENTION and the pediatricians society is revising this as allergies have become more prevalent not less. This mom already requested no judging I understand everyone is just looking out for each other but each mom needs to do what they feel is right for their child in their own specific situation. My son loves anything with apple, banana or raspberries in it. I found that the easiest food to start with was banana or apple 😁 hope this helps

At the very least, get a second opinion from another doctor before you make a decision.

I worked with young children and infants for 20 years before becoming a stay at home mom. I'm not speaking from a place of ignorance or arrogance. I have a solid knowledge base about this particular topic. The minimum age is 6 months. It's not a magic number. It's just the youngest age that solids are recommended by every major medical organization.

Do you guys personally know her baby? Have you personally seen the signs of readiness? If not, then you need to chill out. Every baby is different . I don’t understand how all of a sudden 6 months becomes the magic number - babies are not robots. It’s one thing to share some facts or concerns, but it’s another to keep pushing and pushing when she already said she knows her baby is ready.

Sweet potatoes are a good start! Try veggies first before fruits. Once they like the sweetness, it’s hard to go back to veggies lol

Haha no I’m not scared and I did read information about it but I don’t wanna live out of a book! I’m going to listen to my dr because that’s how I am and it can be as sad 😔 as can be but you know what last time I check she came out of me and I created her for the 9 months so I will do as I please! Because it’s my child I am her mum! But thank you for trying to make me feel like shit as a mum and putting people down about stuff as it’s already really hard to be a mum now a days since everyone is a dr I guess but I didn’t get any classes and I’m going to listen to the dr over listening to the internet where half the shit is wrong! And if that makes me a terrible and horrible mum then yup that’s what I am! 👍🏻👌🏼

@jessiebear21, it’s sad that you would take all the info from pediatricians who researched and studied the area of nutrition and the affects and dismiss it over your one doctor who very likely hasn’t studied it at all nor stayed up to date. My pedi recommended it too- and I educated him. He apologized and thanked me. Ohh and btw- that recommendation was for my preemie.

Your response indicates you didn’t actually read or research. Are you afraid that doing so will change your mind? That’s very sad.

There's books and stuff that tell you what you can start with. (peas, applesauce, squash, sweet potato, rice cereal etc.)

@jessiebear21 I wish you would at least read the info that I linked before you decide. It won't hurt to read it, and it may help. The sources are credible. @laniejay is very knowledgeable about infant nutrition.

@jessiebear21 one more thing lol we also got those silicone things with the holes that you put food in and they gum it. I can't think of what they're called but you can get them anywhere. You steam veggies, or put fruit in, snap it together and they go to town on it. She loved cubes of watermelon in it, or steamed veggies. Then they don't get big pieces and choke. Especially with no teeth. Mine didn't have teeth until she was 13 months old lol

Yes I’m sure. And I get it’s not all the same but I was a premature and very small for my age and I was fed early and I am fine. And yes I realize saying that it doesn’t always happen but I feel my baby will be fine if my dr said she will be ok I am going to go with her

The gastric issues don't show up until many years later, like late teens early 20's. Are you sure you've researched this thoroughly?

@megand15, awesome thank you so much! This is really helpful!

megand15

@jessiebear21 they're so easy! And if you roast them long enough you don't really need to puree them. Just peel the skin, mix in a bit of breast milk or formula and give her little tastes. She probably won't eat too much at first. It took mine a while to start enjoying food lol. She didn't really like pureed, so I gave her tiny bits of shredded meat and rice (her favorite too. She could eat it by the bowl full if I let her lol). Oh she loved shredded cheese and cottage cheese too. But I don't think you'll want to try cheeses yet. We didn't really do baby lead weaning, just kinda fed her whatever we ate and some pureed stuff too.

I skipped all cereals. All they do is bung them up. We started her with roasted sweet potatoes. And to this day they're still her favorite lol

I totally get that and I understand but I feel it will be safe and I know it’s not always that easy but I feel she will be fine she eats apple sauce right now and is fine and she also will start eating baby cereal tomorrow lol

My pediatrician said it was ok to start solids at 4 months with my first baby 10 years ago. By the time I had my second baby, 7 years ago, she told me that the recommendations had changed. Babies should not have solids until at least 6 months of age. The recommendation has stayed at 6 months ever since. It sounds like your doctor may not have kept up with the current recommendations. It happens often since there's so much for them to keep up with. Sometimes things get overlooked.

Start with avocado, sweet potato, banana, egg yolk. All of those can and should be mixed with a little breastmilk or formula.

These first foods are safe because they're easy on digestion. Babies don't have the proper enzymes to eat most foods until 6m-1y.

And yes there's a specific way you should do it: one new food at a time, few days in between to watch for reactions. Baby should always be propped upright for feeding and offered solids after their baby milk.

Signs of solid readiness:

Lost tongue thrust reflex

Sitting up unassisted

Good head control

@kittywearingmama, I have looked it up and I get all this but lots of kids have been eating food before six months and I actually had a dr say she was ready plus I’ve also been told that it’s 4-6 months that they can start eating. Plus I’d rather listen to a dr then become some crazed person reading everything off the internet that isn’t always true

kittywearingmama

Amber

It has nothing to do with some babies being ready earlier. It has to do with the development of the gut and being able to break down the enzymes. Look up open gut.

jessiebear21

Jessie Hart

Мама дочки-младенца

I get this yes but I got told that I would be able to start at 5 months some babies are just ready earlier for it.

So idk if I’m an asshole for thinking this but a girl I used to go to school with is having her 3rd kid and she’s planning a baby shower and she had one with her other two. I feel like a baby shower is something you do with ur first pregnancy. I live far from my family so I didn’t have one but i did have a baby registry and I’m not even doing that with this pregnancy. Idk I just feel like 3 baby showers is a lot! Especially when she gets things handed to her. Idk maybe I’m an ass for thinking that
