Oh! That had to be so scary to go through! 🤭. What came of that was she ok? How old is she now? 🙂

@mortonmining, no no no sorry I wasn’t clear! My little girl was born with an infection- they were afraid it was sepsis and had to keep her for observation and to monitor it. Her breathing was also a bit off along with a fever. Her antibiotics had to be given twice a day through an IV so they had one of the little IV spouts in her vein and they had to splint her entire arm so she wouldn’t move it and knock it out. This is not typical at all. Typically Mom and baby go home the next day. We were lucky they didn’t send her to NICU because then we wouldn’t have been able to stay with her- I’m not sure all hospitals have it, but ours has a level below NICU where you can stay with your baby.

@amysbabies, what is the splint for ? 😦 and do they all go to a lower risk ward ? Or is it situational? Sorry for so many questions this is my first and I just want to be prepared. 🤯

@mortonmining, most don’t. They don’t typically give baths anymore either. Not until before you leave the hospital, then they go over sponge bathing with you and show you how. It kind of depends on your hospital though. Mine only takes baby out of your sight if there’s something wrong. We stayed within eyesight except when they put her IV in and splint on- they wouldn’t even let us go in the room- I think it’s a policy because it would have been too traumatic. After that though we stayed with her the whole week she had to be hospitalized. She wasn’t in the NICU, but the lower risk ward, Pediatrics- they have a floor of all newborns with private rooms which was nice.

I don’t even want them to take the baby out of the room, I’m going to request they bath him in front of me, I don’t want him out of my sight.

My daughter came out. They checked to make sure she was okay (had a hard labor). When they handed her to me I latched her directly onto my breast. She latched on right away and already knew what to do.

I usually do it right away or right after the bath.

You can start as soon as baby comes out and placed on your chest. Most people and all babies have to learn though so it can take a while

It's usually after 2hrs after giving birth, at least that's how I did it.
