Too long between nighttime feedings?

Too long between nighttime feedings?

My daughter is 3 weeks today, and last night she went 5 hours between feedings for the first time. We're breastfeeding and she usually wakes me up every 3 - 3.5 hours to eat at night. Is 5 hours too long to go without eating at this point? How long do you let your baby go between nighttime feedings? Thanks :)

I was told the American pediatric association changed their recommendations as far as waking baby to eat. Annoying that all doctors don't follow the same research!

My babe has gone 5 hrs a couple different nights and never seemed to be a concern because she had already regained back to birth weight by 10 days. Doc said we should wake every 3-4 hours max and feed her but she doesn't stay awake so I gave that effort up real quick lol. I figure as long as she's growing I let her decide the schedule. It's a baby's world, we are all just living in it ?

Ugh these doctors kill me though. My ped told us Laura should eat every 2 hours - no excuses. This was AFTER she weighed her and found she was up to 9 lbs 8 oz (@ 19 days old). Laura weighed 7 lbs 11 oz at birth. So she's obviously beyond her birth weight. I just wish there was a bit more consistency in what doctors tell us!! But based upon all of your comments, I think I'll let Laura go 5 hours again in the future

No it's perfectly fine! My girl started doing that at two weeks. My son did the same and was sleeping through the night in no time.

I was told by the lactation consultant at the hospital as well as my ped that as long as baby is eating 8 or more times in 24 hours I don't need to wake the baby to eat.. Enjoy your sleep mama!

My 11 day old went 5 hours last night. We too are Exclusively breastfeeding. I had to wake him up. He is usually up by 1.5 to 2 hours. I woke up at the 3 hour mark and pumped to keep my milk up. He was born the 21st at 8 lbs and 13 oz. We left the hospital at 8lbs and 3 oz. On his first appointment on Tuesday he was 9 pounds even. His doctor said she would be okay with him sleeping up to 5 hours because he reached and passed his birth weight.

My doc said we didn't have to wake her up after she cleared her birth weight at 2 weeks. She's one month now and has been doing 5 hour stretches...now if only we could get it to be 11-4am instead of 9-2am! ?

DD is also 3wks today and has been doing 5hr stretches since we came home from the hospital. I have mentioned it at both her appts and her Docs were not concerned. Mind you, she only does this once a day, and it's usually the first part of the night, from about 9/10pm to 2/3am.

Except the past 3nights, now we're up every 1.5/2hrs. It's been a painful couple of days ?

My doc said today she recommends waiting a month or so until you stop waking them up. A lot of docs will say once they're back up to their birth weight. She said since my lil guy is gaining weight i can stop waking him up. He gained 2 lbs in 2 weeks. Lol.

According to my pediatrician, I do not need to wake my baby up every 2-3 hours any more since he went back to birth weight and is gaining weight properly. He normally goes between 2-5 hours between feedings at night, depending on how much he eats and how long I can get him to stay awake. :)

Waking to feed? My dd is a week old and I was told by her doctor to wake her every 2 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night to feed her. For the first 3 days I did that and when I would wake her fit a night feeding she was fussy and usually wouldn't go back to sleep and would want to nurse constantly until about 9 am. I tried not waking her last night and she slept beautifully! She woke up around 6 hours in and ate then slept another hour or so and ate again. Is it ok to let her sleep?
