Waking to feed?

My dd is a week old and I was told by her doctor to wake her every 2 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night to feed her. For the first 3 days I did that and when I would wake her fit a night feeding she was fussy and usually wouldn't go back to sleep and would want to nurse constantly until about 9 am. I tried not waking her last night and she slept beautifully! She woke up around 6 hours in and ate then slept another hour or so and ate again. Is it ok to let her sleep?

Unless you have a medical reason not to, it's usually fine to let baby sleep. As long as they are waking themselves at some point, don't worry. My first woke herself every 2 hours. This time around my daughter sleeps 4-6 hours at night, and wakes herself to eat, and then again 2 hours later. She has gained 11 oz in 10 Days, and docs say its just great. So i would sat It's fine! (Unless your baby isn't gaining weight or is jaundice)

My baby would eat about every 3 hours and then at night would go up to 6.5 hours between feeds.

I was told by hospital to not let him go longer than 6 hours.

Im sure my family all worried about us shocked when they asked me wen he had last eaten and my mil would no quit telling me to eat all the time so I could make milk for him.

but I ate wen I was hungry and fed lo wen he was hungry and wen we were weighed first time he had put on an ounce which shut everyone up a bit.

He is now 16 days old and doing fine he usually has one long wake during the day upto about 6 hours and he can have one long sleep also the rest of the day we apend waking and sleeping every 2 hours or so.

Conclusion:

I would let them sleep

My lo would sleep 5 hours. I panicked and would try so hard to wake her. She would be drowsy and not even latch properly or feed well. Finally I just let her dictate her feedings. As long as she had the dirty diapers, I let it ride. Get that sleep, cuz when the growth spurts come, you'll be missing it.

Thanks ladies! She is now past her birth weight so I'm going to let her sleep and dictate when she's hungry.

As others have said, once she hits her birth rate you can quit waking her to eat.

My doctor said he and his wife never woke their 4 kids from midnight-6am.

I let my baby sleep and she wakes up when she wants the boob. She is two weeks today and has passed her birth weight. I say, you're the mommy and you do what you feel works for you and baby.

I don't let my lo go more than 4 hours during the day and 5 hours at night. If I wake him every 2-3 hours as recommended he is miserable and super fussy.

If the baby is back to birth weight don't worry and let them sleep. I have fed my dd on demand from the beginning so if she wanted to sleep I let her.

My lo is now 4wks old, but she was the same - would sleep all night. She was full term and good birth weight, so I chose not to wake her at night. By her day 6 weight-in she was the same weight as birth.

As long as she is happy, full term baby that's not under weight, then I wouldn't wake her. Enjoy the sleep while you can! It did unfortunalty change for me - she now wakes every 4 hrs.

I was doing the same thing and she was staying up at night wanting to cluster feed. My daughter is now 5 days old.

I'm going to just let her sleep but not past 4 hrs.

She normally nurses 30 mins on 1 breast and maybe 15 minutes on the other. She has plenty of wet and dirty diapers.

Does she cluster feed? If she cluster feeds before you put her down, she might not need to be woken up at night.

Weight gain and wet diapers are more important than specific hours between feedings. Every baby is different.

My pedi an lactation consultant both said no more than 4 hours without eating. Day or night.

Let me add to mine, yes, 3-4 hours would be okay, but anything more she should e woken until reaching birthweight. It doesn't have to be every 2 at night!

She was actually 9 days overdue so yes she was very full term! I will try pushing it to 4 hours and see how she does.

We fed our lo every two hours during the day and let her wake us up at night. She never went more than three hours or so at night though until she was about a month and a half. Maybe push to four hours instead of three at night and see if baby likes that better?

Babies should be woken at night until they reach their birth weight. At that age not waking her for 6 hours can cause problems with her weight gain. Plus all that constant night nursing is establishing your milk supply. The hormones that help establish supply are highest at night so she's doing her job! It's a really hard first few weeks but its important for your supply and baby's growth. Remember, some babes that little don't wake at night because missing just one feeding can actually make them tired and weak enough they won't wake even though they are hungry.

Heck yeah! If she's healthy and gaining weight, let her sleep! Babies have a natural sleep cycle that gradually increases. We interrupt that when we wake them up to eat

6 hours is a long time for a 1 week old. Sometimes in the first couple of weeks newborns don't wake when they are hungry. Was she full term? How much does she weigh? Every 2 hours seems pretty extreme for a healthy full term baby. I was waking my dd every 2 hours but she had severe iugr and was hypoglycemic. My second also had health problems but he was a good size (7lbs) so I was only supposed to wake him if he didn't wake up after 4 hours. Personally I'd wake her after 4 hours for a couple more weeks - after that if she wants to sleep let her go for it:)

So my baby is 8 weeks old and is thriving with weight gain each doctors visit. So here is my question: around 4-5 hours at night for sleep she wakes up every night and sucks on her thumb. (She finally this week likes it to soothe her during nap times) her eyes are still closed and she moves around and sucks it. I wake her to feed her. My question is should I just let it go? And see if she is just soothing herself to sleep? I don't want her to stave by morning if she sleep a couple of more hours. What would you guys do?

So we got in super late last night. Had to carry my daughter to bed. She had the nerve to try and wake me up at 7:30am saying she wanted breakfast. Smh (She wanted me to fix her a spread)🙄 I told her to choose some cereal. I'll fix her a bowl. Of course there wasn't any cereal that she wanted today 😴 I told her spoiled ass to figure it out and I went back to sleep 😂🤣 She ate an eggo.

Mommies I need advice.... So last night was night 15 of me sleep training my daughter from sleeping with me to now sleeping in her new crib. It has been EXHAUSTING! When she slept with me she would sleep straight throughout the night. Now she wakes up at the least, 5 times throughout the night. She has waken up at most 8/9 times at night. There have been times where I’m patting her for an 1 hour-2hours straight to get her back to sleep when she has waken up at one of those times🥵. So I have felt like a complete failure because I am delirious due to sleep deprivation, and I’m just so exhausted from this whole journey and can’t catch up with my sleep that when she’s waken up the past two nights at 7am, I haven’t been able to push through my exhaustion and I just put her in the bed with me for an hour or an hour and a half until we wake up just so I can get a little sleep. I don’t want to confuse her and I don’t want all the work I’ve done so far to be a waste because of putting her in bed with me these past two times. I don’t have anyone to take turns with me because I’m a single mom. And at times my bed wakes her back up after putting her to sleep because it’s so noisy 🙄. I’m working on that part, lol. I’ve let her sleep with a shirt of mine that smelled like me 3 nights and it didn’t help. I’ve even given her a bed baby that she sleeps with. What would you guys do in my case.??

Science! My friend posted this on facebook last night and said her kids were asleep within minutes. It's a song that scientists created to help people fall asleep. I was skeptical but I thought what the hay, I'll try it out. I didn't bank on Dh falling asleep, but both him and lo were asleep by minute 2. And lo slept six straight hours. ?
