Mommies I need advice....
So last night was night 15 of me sleep training my daughter from sleeping with me to now sleeping in her new crib. It has been EXHAUSTING! When she slept with me she would sleep straight throughout the night. Now she wakes up at the least, 5 times throughout the night. She has waken up at most 8/9 times at night. There have been times where I’m patting her for an 1 hour-2hours straight to get her back to sleep when she has waken up at one of those times🥵. So I have felt like a complete failure because I am delirious due to sleep deprivation, and I’m just so exhausted from this whole journey and can’t catch up with my sleep that when she’s waken up the past two nights at 7am, I haven’t been able to push through my exhaustion and I just put her in the bed with me for an hour or an hour and a half until we wake up just so I can get a little sleep. I don’t want to confuse her and I don’t want all the work I’ve done so far to be a waste because of putting her in bed with me these past two times. I don’t have anyone to take turns with me because I’m a single mom. And at times my bed wakes her back up after putting her to sleep because it’s so noisy 🙄. I’m working on that part, lol. I’ve let her sleep with a shirt of mine that smelled like me 3 nights and it didn’t help. I’ve even given her a bed baby that she sleeps with. What would you guys do in my case.??
Yes in definitely realizing that. I’m going to try and sleep in the living room tonight so she can get use to sleeping without my assistance.
I transitioned my son out of my bed and to his crib around 13ish months and it was DIFFICULT. He can be very stubborn. First, you have to stop bringing her into your bed in the morning. I know it’s hard when you’re so sleep deprived, but that’s the only way it’s gonna work. Right now she’s learning that if she just keeps waking up and putting up a stink, eventually you’ll bring her into bed with you. She doesn’t know the time or that it’s almost morning, she just knows eventually she will get what she wants. Do you have another room in the house where you can place the crib? When she wakes and sees you there, that probably contributes to her not getting back to sleep. If you don’t have another bedroom or place for her crib, I would suggest sleeping on the couch or something until she is back to sleeping through the night. Consistency is KEY. It took my son 3-4 weeks before he was transitioned. It was rough but just stay consistent and power through. She will get there eventually.
Yea I know the two nights that I put her in my bed was wrong. My daughter is COMPLETELY STUBBORN so I know what you mean and I’m afraid to try this but you completely just read my mind. I was going to ask someone in the comments if they felt it was best that I sleep in the living room until she adjusts to sleeping alone because I don’t have another room for her. I think that’s a great idea because she does wake up and look straight over at me like come pat me lol. I’m nervous though because if my daughter can fight her sleep for hours, I can imagine how strong willed she would be if I leave her to cry it out. But I’ll start tonight. So when you were transitioning your son, did you pat him to sleep or just lay him in bed?? And when I’m in the living room and If she wakes throughout the night do I just let her cry it out again??
@mommyof1beauty, We did our usual nighttime routine, then I would lay him down and pat/rub him for a few minutes to relax him but I always left before he was all the way asleep. When he woke during the night I would not go in and he eventually stopped waking. It was hard on the both of us, but probably harder on me. In the end it was soooo worth it and we both got much better sleep and were happier overall. Good luck!
We didn’t bed share but my daughter started waking more frequently around 4/5 months. I didn’t realize what was going on until she was waking every 2/3 hours. I couldn’t take it anymore. Around 9 months I decided to do something about it. I do pretty much what you do. Lay them down awake, say it’s night night time. In the beginning I’d have to pat here butt but I worked toward not touching her. Now I can just lay her down and walk out. I did this by patting less once she’s calm, if she started fussing I’d shush her. I wanted her to fall asleep on her own and not rely on me. The waking up in the middle of the night took longer to tackle. I just moved her into her own room which helped. She may wake up but she’ll put herself back to sleep now. It took a long time for us.
@mommyof1beauty, I think you should have a routine of how you handle the situation. Then she knows what to expect. When she wakes don’t move, give her time to see if she’ll go back down on her own. If not go pat her tell her it’s night night time. Try to get her clam. I only leave when I can’t calm her down and I need a breather, going back in at 5-10-20 minutes. Each time saying it’s night night time and not picking her up. There was a couple of times I slept on the couch because I couldn’t take it. It’s so hard! Stick to your guns, it will get better little by little.
@mrs.hibben, do you think that I should do without a light for her? I keep an old iPhone flashlight on to keep the room lit throughout the night
@mommyof1beauty, I would take the light out. I think my problem was that she could still see me. She’s been in her own room for two nights. I didn’t feed her in the middle of the night. She woke up but went back to sleep on her own.
I’ve gone over this with my sons pediatrician since he was 6 months old.. she kept telling me it’ll only get harder and harder for us to get him out of our bed and into his crib the longer we waited to sleep train. It was always easier for me to have him sleep next to me because I exclusively breastfeed but I’m over breastfeeding and want him in his crib but your post makes me not even want to try 😅 Is her crib in your room or does she have her own room?
Omg! I have no idea how it’s this way 🥵😅. Don’t mean to scare you, you may very well have better luck. But her crib is in my room, across the room from me. I wanted to put it beside my bed, but my roommate said she should get use to sleeping away from me so it’s across the room from my bed.
@mommyof1beauty, we’re literally on the same exact boat 😭😂 My sons crib is in our room too so he’ll nap in his crib and wake up happy but if I put him down to sleep in his crib and he sees us in bed he screams his head off until I put him in bed with us 😪 His pediatrician said it would be easier if he had his own room but we don’t have an extra room lol Let me know if you find something that works! Please lol I wish I could help but good luck momma 💕🍀
@erik_uhh, yes we are literally in the same boat. She’s napping now and she naps perfectly fine in her crib, it’s just the night time that’s a bust. So I see everyone’s recommendation is her being in her own room. So since I don’t have another room for her, I think I’m going to try sleeping in the living room until she can get use to sleeping alone and see where we get. You let me know if you find anything that works as well love!
Something must be off. Sleep training shouldn't really take that long...what is your routine for bedtime/wakeups?
Bed time preparation starts at 7:30 pm. She’s finishing up dinner and I get her ready to bathe. She brushes her teeth and then Bathing is fairly quick. Wash her up, she plays with her toys. Get her out and I lotion her up and dress her in her pjs. It’s 8 o’clock after that usually and 8 o’clock is her bedtime. I play tickle monster and kiss her all over and I do this same routine each and every night. I lay her in her crib after she gets her tickles, cover her up, say night night, and she gets her bed baby and pacifier and I pat her until she falls asleep. When she wakes up throughout the night I go over, usually say nothing but if I have to say something because she’s being difficult then I say night night and just pat her until she falls asleep. Idk what I could be doing wrong.
@mommyof1beauty idk if its necessarily because of you doing something wrong hon. How dark is it in your room, can she see you? If shes already being patted for up to an hour sometimes I'd honestly just let her cry until she goes back to sleep...but that isn't for everyone. When we did sleep training with my oldest it was just to breaking night feeds because he was always in his crib. He was 9m old and after I just let him cry until he fell asleep twice (I think) he was fine. He has slept all night since. I hope you get it figured out 💕
@two.tiny.texans, It’s lightly dim in the room. She can see me for the most part. It’s not completely dark, I have the flashlight on an old phone on all night to light the room. It’s just hard to let her cry it out because her crib is in my room. So it’s like no sleep either way. How long did your son cry it out before he would just fall asleep??
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
TWW!!
2dpo and on the tww journey. Anyone on the same dpo or close? Haven't decided if I will test at 12dpo or just wait and see if she shows up!!
Transgender children
So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are...
Science!
My friend posted this on facebook last night and said her kids were asleep within minutes. It's a song that scientists created to help people fall asleep. I was skeptical but I thought what the hay, I'll try it out. I didn't bank on Dh falling asleep, but both him and lo were asleep by minute 2. And lo slept six straight hours. ?
Starting TWW. Anyone else?
I had a stillborn daughter at 38 weeks this passed Nov. This is my second month ttc. (Last month we only tried for like two weeks though). My last and only pregnancy, I got pregnant the first month of ttc so I hope it's quick this time again.
I would do less patting then eventually stop it altogether. You'd want her to rely on herself to fall asleep otherwise you're gona be doing it for a very long time.
