Delivering a Eulogy..

So my mom-moms service is on Monday morning. I wrote out the rough draft of the eulogy. This is my first time ever writing one and I had to Google the basics of it. I think it sounds great and the issue wasn't writing it or anything but to actually stand up front of people and say it.

First off my deepest condolences to you ladies. You all are so brave to speak and I think it is wonderful that some of you did at such a young age! I couldn't even imagine. Thank you all for sharing your stories and tips.

I will make sure I have water and tissues handy and I will put some of these great suggestions to use!

I sang at my grandfather's funeral when I was 16. I made sure not to look at anybody. I kept my eyes on the door at the back.

I have not spoken at a funeral, but I do quite a bit of public speaking. If it's something I'm emotional about I basically shut myself down. I read the words without thinking about them all as a whole..if that makes sense.

I've spoken at 2 kind of. One was my grandmas when I was 11. I had written something but they didn't give the option to speak so they just read it. Which was fine. The other was my youth pastor. I had written 2 poems and read both of them. I didn't get emotional because I don't let people see me cry so it was fine just reading it and stuff.

I spoke at my dad's funeral. I was a complete mess and just spoke from my heart. It was short because I couldn't think straight. Sorry, I'm no help.

My Grandmother passed away suddenly this past March. I wrote something for her, and felt I owed it to her and the relationship we had to stand up and speak for her. It was extremely hard, but I'm so glad I was able to do it. It helped me find peace in her passing.

The thing is people expect you to cry, and they expect you to be sad, and its OK to be emotional throughout the eulogy. Every time you feel like you're going to break down stop and take a breath. It's not a race, and you'll finish when you finish. I also read over it out loud a million times to memorize it a bit.

Before I got up and spoke my uncle took me aside and told me to look at him if I started losing it. He told me he would stay strong for me so I could be strong for my Grandma. So, if you have someone in your family you know is capable of staying strong, look for them.

Saying a eulogy for my grandmother was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, but I'm so thankful and proud thatvibwas able to.

I'm sorry for your loss

I spoke at my grandfathers funeral in May... You will most likely cry, but that's okay sweetie. I have a poem for you I'm at urgent care right now but I'll post it when I get home... (Hugs)

Agree- keep reading it until it gets easier and take deep breaths. No one will be surprised if you get emotional, it's to be expected. I'm so sorry for your loss!

A lot of reading aloud and visualizing yourself presenting will help a bit. Have a bottle of water with you to take a sip if you start to feel you can't speak. It will give you a moment. Try to not look at anyone in particular...a wall or the back of the room.

And most of all, know that if you can't finish, it's okay. Every single person will understand.

I gave my Nana's when I was 22. I wish I had thought if googling an outline. I just wrote how I felt and talked alot about how she mad us laugh. I told jokes through out my speech and made it light. When I would tell a joke or a funny story, I didn't need to read off my paper. I was telling a story to a group of friends and family and it came out freely. They would laugh through the tears and it made me feel more comfortable.

I took care of her the last month and a half of her life so at the end I spoke about how she had made peace with her life and was ready and that's how I ended it. I cried. I laughed. I had too stop stop a couple times, but it was real.

I think maybe just reading aloud a few times would help you to not breakdown. I always practice a lot before speaking in front of people, when it's practiced you're more calm. This will be an emotional situation no matter what, but I think if it's been read aloud quite a bit it will help.

I'm very sorry for your loss, I hope it brings you some peace.

Oh pp that is incredibly brave of you! I honestly couldn't even imagine. That would have been like me doing the eulogy at my mothers funeral (she passed on my 13th birthday) thank you for the tips I will have to try something like that.

Honestly I don't even plan on looking up away from my paper! I will try my best to not lose my marbles, I know I will cry and i also know that that is okay. My mom-mom and I were extremely close, I just don't want to not be able to finish! Thanks for sharing.

Anybody else?

I spoke at my Nanas funeral when I was 12. I don't remember much of it, it was a blur. But I do remember picking a random spot and looking at it the whole entire time. I think it was a ladies hat or something. I made a point of not looking at anyone in my family. That's what was able to get me through it. But I know some people who've said seeing their family keeps them going. Do whatever you need to. And remember, it's okay if you get emotional.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

I told my friend my mom wants to throw me a baby shower and write on the invite "monetary gifts only" and he told me that people aren't trying to pay for my "gas bill" I'm offended because a lot of money goes into a baby shower, and if you're gonna give me a 10$ blanket from Ross that I probably won't even use it's a waste. I rather use those 10$ for my honest company diaper subscription.

Will your Mom be in the delivery room?

Will your Mom be in the delivery room? My mom made it sound like she was gonna be in the delivery room when I give birth, and quite frankly, I would just like it to be me and my fiancé. It's our first, and I want to share that special moment with just him. I don't want to hurt her feelings, and I know this is something she would really like to be a part of. So I feel bad telling her no.
