Solid foods!

How did you guys introduce solids? Like do you have a schedule? Bottle and solids or bottle one feeding and solids one feeding? Sorry I feel stupid but I really don't know lol. Thanks ladies

Oh OK! @sha I thought you meant like '3 oz of puree WHAT? Thats too much.' You know how people can be lol?But no I slowly increased. She has had rice cereal in her bottle since she was born (otherwise it came right back up) so it's a very thick formula. The number one foods were just a little bit thicker than her formula. I didn't do a tablespoon at a time. I didn't start her on a whole container first either. I had given her ocassional bites here and there. Then I started half a container every other day then I went up to a whole container of number ones. I always waited 3 days before trying a new food to watch for signs of an allergy. She is now on #2 foods and she can also eat the Gerber puffs, but broke into 5 pieces lmao (they are star shaped little cereals). They dissolve, and she chews with her back gums so she has it down. I'm just scared to death she will choke so I break them very tiny. But Yea that is where we are at right now! My doctor said she could have anything except honey the first year. I think she will be ready for #3 foods soon, probably at 7 months.

@babygirl I'm asking about the amount because we will be starting solids in about 2 weeks. I've been reading up on getting started and everything I read is saying to start with a table spoon a day. That's why I'm asking about the 3 oz feedings? not saying your feeding too much ?

@sha I was given no 'tablespoon' a day rule. But I assure you, my daughter is doing just fine :)) I started her slowly, bites here and there and now she eats 2 meals a day (we just started the meals) and she is a great little solid eater :)

@sha no 3 oz of puree twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. 3 oz isn't even a whole Gerber size container. My daughter was born in September, she was premature. She is 6.5 months and ready for solids, I wasn't really. Her pediatrician is great, and works at the oldest peds practice in my city they are very well renowned. So I am going to go with what he says. He probably pushed solids because she was premature and at her formula limited. She is doing wonderful!! We have also started her on the puffs. But what is the question?? All I see is '3 oz of puree a day?' No 6 oz of puree a day :)) ✌

3oz of purée a day? We haven't started yet (waiting until 6 months) but I thought it was a table spoon a day to start?

DD is 5.5 months. I started her on avocado this week. She only gets it when we eat dinner. She gets a bottle first then only a few bites of avocado, about half an ice cube (I use ice cube trays to freeze the food I make her). I'll start increasing and adding new foods in a few weeks; right now it's just for her to get the hang of it.

My Ped told me to start just bites here and there at 4 months. I did bites here and there but never increased like he wanted lol. Wasn't ready. I don't feed her solids every meal. Her first feeding of the day I give her 5 oz of formula then I will feed her 3 oz puree. Then her last feeding before bed I do 6 oz formula and 3 oz of puree.

Oh and bottle first! I tried solids first and, she just screamed the whole time because she was hungry. The spoon is much slower than the bottle lol she has very little patience when hungry.

My little man is freshly six months, the doctor actually told me to start at 5 months (that's what I wasnt comfortable with) do you give her both each feeding?

My doctor got onto me for not starting Harper on solids daily yet. She is 6 1/2 months. At a visit the other day he asked if I had started her and I told him I wasn't ready and he said 'well she is absolutely ready' and she is...I just don't want her to grow up. He told me the max of formula you want to be giving at 6 months is around 35 oz and the rest of the nutrients should come from solids. He said she could have anything except honey, even steak if I wanted to give it to her. I give her about 3 oz of puree, and then wait 3 days to try another to make sure there is no allergy. She does really well chewing and not tongue thrusting. She loves fruits and vegetables. Sometimes I don't scoop fast enough, and she screams at me lol

And also, only stick to the same food for a few days to rule out any bad reactions or allergies :)

Bottle first, then a few bites of solids afterwards. I heard that's the best way and so far we've only done it once :) we'll be introducing more within the next few weeks.

Hey mamas! Once you started your babies on solids, how often did you breastfeed ? I know normally babies feed 8-12 times a day but once they start solids, how often do they then feed? I’m wondering for pumping and bottle feeding purposes. Thanks !
