Showing interest and grabbing at utensils isn’t really a sign. That’s more curiosity and mimicking. My pedi suggested foods at 4 months and when I discussed those articles he went and researched. Then he called me to apologize for giving outdated information. Best to wait until 6 months as current research indicates that’s ideal.

@laniejay, he’s actually 4 months now (my account says 3 for some reason) and sits unsupported — is that ok ?? He kept grabbing the spoon to put the food into his mouth so I figured that’s a Sign. Am I incorrect ? I’d appreciate the links :)

@carusod91, always feed breastmilk first, then solids an hour later. However, 3 months is way too young for solids. 6 months and signs of readiness (no tongue thrust, sitting unsupported, pincher grasp, etc) is what is recommended. I can give you some links if you’d like.

@pasy002, that’s kind of what I was wondering ! I started some solids for my baby (about a tablespoon of oatmeal mixed with breast milk) and when I was going to finish his bottle of breast milk he didn’t have as much (like 1/2 bottle instead of full). So I wasn’t too sure if that was a good thing or not

When my baby started taking in solids, i would breastfeed every time after she took her “meal” and in-between meals too as well as through the night when she woke up. As babies grow, they eat less often and when they start solids, that number reduces, so you kind of have to fit in the breast milk

The same amount. You don’t replace breastmilk or formula with solids. Solids just for learning and development from 6 months to 12 months.
