my sister takes care of a little girl she's 4 years old she's going to be 5 soon. she just came from El Salvador 6 months ago, she doesn't know how to write her name, the numbers, colors, shapes, nothing. Since one day my sister had to go see her lawyer she told me to watch her for an hr, and I did. I called her to the living room so we could paint some canvases I bought the other day and she can surprise her mom, but as soon as I told her come let's paint and she saw watercolors and paper she started to cry... I asked her what was wrong and she told me that she didn't know how to and that she didn't want to paint. she started to shiver and I put the things away.. she told me she just didn't want to paint because she didn't know how to. but I told her she didn't need to know because she can do scribbles and it was going to be nice.. she started painting and her hand was shaking and kept saying I can't do this I can't. .. I told her to stop and asked her what was wrong she told me her step dad made her do her name and if she did it wrong he would hit her and put her in the shower with ice cold water. I immediately told my sister and my sister told her mom. her mom told us that the little girl was lying and just wanted to find a way to get out of learning how to write her name. the next week she came with a purple lip and I and I asked her what happened. she told me her step dad had snuffed her because she didn't want to write her name. I ask her mother about it and she told me she was lying that she slipped and fell on her mouth. I kept asking the little girl and she kept saying the same things... she said he would hit her and keep showering her in cold water... now my sister picked her up from preschool and she has a bruise on her forehead.... she told us he pushed her. I've had it.. I feel like calling the police but what if the little girl is lying??? I know children don't lie but while talking to her mom she told us the little girl lies in order to get out of doing things... what do I do????

I'd call cps as well.

your sister is required under the law to call cps if she is a child caretaker if anything is suspicious, even if she thinks the little girl might be lying

I mean talk it over with your sister too, it's really scary to take the steps. But maybe she needs help and maybe the moms turning a blind eye.

Like they said. I'm not sure if her parents are citizens or the little girl but can't that get them deported?
