HELLPPP!! My baby wants to be held ALL the time. She will start crying loudly as soon as anyone puts her down... (& won't stop crying until she's picked back up) my question is: is a 4 month old too young for the cry it out method. Also, do you believe you can spoil a baby by holding him/her too much?! 😩💔 I'm so torn on what to do.

i think once she can sit on her own & then crawl she'll be fine...penelope is very attached & now she wont sit still...sometimes when i try to hold her she squirms to explore :)

yes see everything does not work for every baby. you can take what ppl tell you with a grain of salt cause what works for one might not work with your child you know

@amaresmama, omg ashley! same here. my mom sees how stressful it is for me and she tells me to just let her cry it out but when I tried to do that and finally held mia, she was so distraught she kept crying 😢

if you feel like your stressing set her in her crib and go to another room and take a breather she will be okay crying for a lil and once you feel like you are okay go back amd see how she is. people have different opinions but at the end of the day its your child mama :) right :)? @macey404

@mommytomia_, read about attachment parenting? It might not have nothing to do with your situation but if you read about it you will see how picking up your baby immediately after she cries is actually a good thing! 😄

I believe at that age they go thru this sleep regression so little by little try putting her down to nap in her crib. I tried the cry it out method but it never worked for either my kids till they got older like almost 1 year but try talking to her dr and get some advice. And I do believe they can get a little spoiled but to each their own. Anxiety doesn't come from crying it out. But to each their own

@mommytomia_, please read this one article with 6 experts weighing in, this was one of the best I've read: http://www.bellybelly.com.au/baby-sleep/cry-it-out/
Before anyone attacks me with "my baby is fine and I did it", take into account that this is all FACTUAL information gathered by YEARS of research from experts who have done brain scans on babies and children and SEEN the damage it causes. I once read a story where someone walked into an orphanage full of babies and it was completely quiet. They asked why and the answer was, because they know no one will come when they cry, so they just don't cry anymore. We may not see the damage it does to our children yet, but trust me, in many cases it is there. I cried it out as a child because that's what many of our parent's generation were told to do, and I seemed fine as a kid but the older I get the worse my anxiety is...I'm not saying this will happen for EVERY kid who cries it out, but why risk even a chance??

cry it out works for some babies and others it doesn't. my son was all distraught after it and still crying even after we picked him up. but everybody kept telling us let him cry it out,let him cry it out. never again!!!

Have you checked out Wonder Weeks? It's seriously amazing and so helpful. She might be going through a leap which makes them more clingy! It's worth checking out I promise!

Also cry it out has long-term effects, it can make your baby grow up having anxiety and attention-seeking behavior, distrust of others and more! A baby who feels a secure attachment early in life (a baby who is loved and held when crying) will actually grow up to be MORE independent and confident in themselves because they know they can count on you and others to be there and they know how to handle their emotions better! They feel confident in themselves because they got the attention they needed when they were young still! In my eyes, it is a VERY small sacrifice to make in the early years of their lives for a LIFETIME of good mental health for them!!! I rather lose out on sleep, have jello arms from holding her and a messy house from not getting anything done than possibly make her grow up with bad anxiety like me...

I have probably already voices this opinion to you before, but a baby CANNOT be spoiled by love! It is a phase she is going through, she wants to be held likely because her view of the world is changing and she is scared and feels safe in your arms...unfortunately, this will happen every few months (most likely during leaps) and it is annoying as hell lol but they get past it and move on to being more independent again for a while! And please, PLEASE NEVER do the cry it out method!!!!!!! I beg you, it is VERY damaging to a child's brain!!! Studies have shown that a baby who cries it out stops crying not because they have learned to self soothe of be independent, but because they believe they are being abandoned by the mother and are saving energy by not crying. They still feel scared and sad, they just do it silently because they know that no one is coming to help them....EVERY form of cry it out gives them this feeling, and in fact even doing it for a few minutes, then leaving again and repeating can be worse sometimes because they are given hope that you are coming to their aid and then having that hope taken away....I have read a LOT of articles on this by experts in the field of baby sleep and psychology and more, and they all agree that crying it out should NEVER be practiced and it COMPLETELY goes against nature. Sorry for the rant, but I feel very strongly about this FACT and I am hoping you will not listen to any doctors or family members who tell you that crying it out will help your baby....just please have patience and love your Mia, trust me! (This does not mean all crying is bad, as long as you go to your baby when you can and let Mia know you are trying to help her, it isn't bad. The practice of crying it out means you purposely let your baby cry, then sometimes go in and maybe touch or hold her for a moment then set her down and let her cry again....)

Me personally I don't think you can spoil a baby by carrying them to much. I carried my son all the time and breastfed him for 2 years. He is the most independent little boy ever. He is not spoiled at all. He's not a very clingy kid and doesn't like to be smothered with hugs and kisses
