I wouldn't let my MIL bc I just don't like the b**** lol but my mom I would lol

I'd mind. My in laws don't let me or my husband have anything to ourselves when it comes to our baby.. They always have to be involved with everything so baby wearing is OUR thing.

Ответить

I will let some but not others. Like my mom for example, totally fine with it. My mil, absolutely not. She has boundary issues and if given the chance will refuse to give my son back to the point I have to take him from her arms while telling her that he is not her child Soo giving her an opportunity to make him harder to take back just isn't gonna happen.

Ответить

Uhh why would I care? And I thought I was nuts! Of course I would let my mother or soon to be mother in law wearing my daughter when she was younger. Only people I wouldn't is reason like perfume or smokers (absolutely no to smokers) I nanny and wear some of them I can get things done that way.

I'd only allow my sisters to wear my baby. I don't trust my mother or my SOs mother. My mom never raised a baby & is horrible with babies, & his mother is so mean! She isn't allowed to do anything in regards to my kids because she's traumatized my oldest kid.

For the record, definitely not hindering brain development. He's got a good bond with my parents who travel to see him and they don't need to wear him lol. Sure, I don't let other take care of him i.e. Change diapers, bathe, feed etc. But he bonds as much as a 5 mo can lol

I don't really know, no one has ever asked and I've never thought about it. I have a 2year old and a 4month old. I suppose some people and not others. I would be ok with my mom and sisters doing it and probably SIL as well.

I am definitely protective of my children, but who isn't? That's a natural instinct to want to protect them.

Some people have taken this to a bit of an extreme. Lmao at hindering brain development lol.

Well my mom and MIL were capable of raising me and hubby, it's not even an issue.

As a matter of fact, I will be soliciting my mother's help right before little one is born. Hopefully, she will stay with me for a couple weeks to help out since I'm having a c-section.

Then again, I have a reasonably close relationship with my mom. I guess it also depends on your personality type. To each his own.

@carter in not ready for him to be it of my care for any time yet. He's only 5 mo. I'm all fine and daddy with him forming bonds but I don't think they are vital to him just yet since they aren't an active member of his life. But they can bond without wearing him.

Alex&Fergie - I was generally speaking (stated that clearly) not to a specific poster or a specific comment, because somebody else mentioned another point about some people not wanting their child to be out of their care for a single moment.

That part of my comment wasn't about baby wearing lol.

As for where I got my information from, university.

But if you'd like links I'd be more than happy to track some reliable sources down. Although considering there was a miscommunication I'm sure you don't need it :)

Ответить

I would really like to know where some people get their information from....

I wouldn't think me not wanting for others to wear my baby is jeopardizing any brain development in my baby.

But some of us here don't want our in-laws baby grabbing our kids.

Socializing our kids and in-laws over stepping boundaries are two completely different things.

LET someone wear my baby? Pshh

I MAKE my 15 year old niece carry my a baby around in the ergo when we go to the store haha. They both love it. I let my sister ware her too and I'd let my mother and other sister. Anyone I'm really close with would be fine

But my aunt or cousins. No i wouldn't want them to ware her.

Ответить

I wouldn't want my my inlaws or my parents wearing my baby. It's one thing to hold them, they should be happy with that. There is no reason for them to wear my baby.

Ответить

deleted-user

deleted-user

So strange.

No it wouldn't bother me. It shouldn't bother anybody else either unless you're also planning on never letting anybody hold your child.

Also -general side note- not allowing your child to form emotional attachments with other people can be extremely bad for their brain development. People need FAR more education on childhood brain development. The first 3 years are the most vital.

Ответить

I am fine with it as long as the baby is out of the infant insert (I'm an ergo girl). I'm too paranoid to let someone wear my baby until (s)he is able to hold their head up

I wouldn't allow anyone to wear my son or this baby on the way...it's a mommy/daddy thing. I can't just take him/her back if they get upset. It's a bonding thing for them to be so close like that. So no, never.

Ответить

Why is your MIL insisting on wearing your baby?!?!?! Are you not capable of not wearing your own child?

No, I would be livid! My mil shouldn't be carrying around my child when I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself

Ответить

What's wrong with that? It's not like she asked for skin to skin.. Wearing makes holding hands free maybe she's just curious because she didnt have a carrier with her children and thinks it would be fun to try. I'd let my mom. Does your SO have a problem with it as well? Idk this is obviously your decision but since you're asking opinions id say I would let them.

I was having this conversation with my DH. He agrees with the majority (if they want to baby wear, then let them).

But I look at it as something special when they're an infant. It's not that I don't trust my family or my friends, I just saw it as something only I did. No one ever asked, but I don't think I would've been comfortable if they did.

My mom wore my son before I did, I was lucky that she stayed with me and my husband after I had my csection since she loved in france at the time. My Moby hurt my incision very bad since I had a staph infection at 1 week pp. He was happy being close to someone and I was happy for the rest. I have a very close relationship with my mom though and like all of my in laws so it might be different if we didn't have a good relationship. My dad also used my beco when my son was 7 months and we were visiting Paris, he loved being close to grandpa!

Absolutely. My mum has a bad back and my bubs is quite big. She wears him in the ergo sometimes when we are out to give me a break and the ergo helps support her back. I live 6 hours away from my family so I love it when my mum n lo have 1 on 1 time

I never thought of this and my answer is no. But not bc I don't want people wearing him it's bc of the people that would want to wear him. First my sister in laws and brother smoke. I don't want my baby that close to their smoke infused clothes for that long. And then my in laws are large. I'm sure the carrier won't fit.

Ответить

I absolutely allow my family to use our moby wrap. Why not? My daughter isn't going to suddenly decide she doesn't love me anymore if her aunt carries her for a while ;-)

We went to Florida and wakes the beach for hours and hours so my mom, sister and I shared wearing my baby girl. I don't care who wears my baby as long as the baby's safe

Ответить

deleted-user

I'd have no problem with it. I also have back issues and sometimes have issues carrying my purse for longer amount of times. That being said I'm only 12 weeks along so I have no experience being a mom.

Ответить

deleted-user

deleted-user

It seems this is more of a territorial issue as well as trust issue. For those of us who trust our loved ones its a no brainer to allow this. It wouldn't cross my mind to worry about grandma trying weird skin to skin contact or a family member fighting with someone while wearing my baby. The territorial thing I don't understand. I don't relate to feeling possessive over my child when it comes to wearing baby. To each their own though.

Ответить

deleted-user

I've never thought about it. I kind of just assumed only SO and I would be wearing our son, since family live some distance away. I've been wearing him mostly, so I can breastfeed and walk around in public and keep him calm.

I just don't see a time where it will be necessary for my mom or MIL or whoever to wear him. They probably can't, since K'tans come in sizes and I'm not spending money on another carrier that will be used only once.

My mom already thinks she could do whatever she wants with my kids despite what I say, so no. My mil probably wouldn't ask, but I would let her before I'd let my mom.

My dad and fil wouldn't because they'd be too scared that something (idk what) would go wrong, but I would let them.

My sisters. ..maybe, it depends, they are also kind of like my mom and would think this is an opportunity to feed him(7weeks old) whatever they want or do stupid stunts. My brother, hell no, he's mentally unstable and I would get my kid back smelling like weed, cigarettes and maybe sporting a tattoo.

Ответить

deleted-user

I think it's a possessive/protective feeling for some of us. I would hate seeing my mom or in laws wearing her. Carrying wouldn't bother me. It's protective because I can't rescue her easily if someone starts arguing loudly, a verbal fight. No one else will think to save her from that. I don't want her stressed by that junk.

Ответить

Of course I wouldn't mind. I never thought some women would say no to this. Geez. God forbid your baby bond with someone else other than the parents.

Ответить

I wouldn't if they're newborn to 2 months because my son would try to latch on to any woman who would hold him. We have big boobed women in the family lol. My mil could wear him but only if she faced him looking away from her chest. I just don't feel comfy with people wearing my baby like I do when they're so little lol

Ответить

I'd let any of my family do it if they are willing. Baby knows who mom is, it doesn't bother me that LO starts to feel safe and loved by people who will be around as they grow up.

When I went back to work ds went to daycare a couple days a week and grandmas a couple days. His daycare had the teachers wear the tiny babies so they had hands for the older babies, I thought that was awesome. We left a carrier with my mom to use but I don't think she ever used it. My mil watches my sil's kids every day and still uses one for my 2 yo niece.

Ответить

I wouldn't mind. My baby girl is close to our family and has been held by them tons already. She is a 26lb 10 month old so I think its better on them to use a carrier if they are going to hold her for a longer period if we don't use the stroller. I'm glad I have them willing to wear her too if my back starts to hurt. She always just reaches and calls out to whoever she wants to hold her. She doesn't always want me to hold her.

@carlsfam what's it to you if OP doesn't let her kid out of her sight? My DD is only 3 months old and she's only been out away from me three times since she's been born (two times for an hour at the gym and once while my husband drove 20 minutes to pick up his dad). I don't plan on anybody babysitting for a LONG time, it's personal preference.

I'd love that! It's such a great way for lo to bond with people other than just me. As a ebf mom, I have felt very alone at times when my dd wants me and no one else. So I'll do anything to encourage relationships with our family.

Ответить

Haha I thought I was the only one! We visited my husbands grandma over the weekend and she asked before to bring my ring sling so she could wear dd, I also "forgot" it...

I should add she's 75 years old and I don't want her to drop DD.

Ответить

When I would babysit my friends daughter, I would stick her in the ergo so I could still have free hands to play with her son, or to get her to sleep. She told me to cause it was much easier to get things done.

Ответить

I agree with you. Only my husband & I are allowed to wear my daughter. It's something special that I don't want to share with anyone else. I also don't trust anyone else to wear her safely because none of them have before.

Edit to add: no one else has asked to wear my daughter, but I'd tell them no if they did. My in-laws are too possessive for my liking & they haven't respected some of my wishes regarding my daughter, so they will never be given that privilege.

And I don't like my mil so that's my reason for her.

Just wanted to know how other moms felt. Not what I expected but interesting.

If it works for other moms that's awesome, just dorsn't for me and that's okay.

Not letting other people wear him isn't bad at least lol

Ответить

I've noticed several posts on here where some moms are against ever leaving their babies and toddlers with anyone, even family. Even for just a few hours. Now this post about not wanting other family members to wear their baby. What are you all afraid of? Your not going to lose that bond with your baby if grandma walks around wearing him for a while. It's not as if your kids will forget all about you if you leave him for 3 hours. That mother/child bond is unbreakable. I just don't get it.
