I was raised.around guns and was thought gun safety before I could even look or touch one that was real. I was tought worth water guns and worked up from there. My children will all know how to shoot a gun and gun safety before they move on their own at 18.

theres guns all over my and hubbys family, we conceal carry, and have hiding spots in the home so if something was to ever happen we can get to one quick. once our daughter is able to start moving she will start learning with toy guns to not point at people, that they are not toys, and all that stuff. once shes bout 5 or so she will learn either on a 410 or 22lr how to use and shoot one. i worked at a range for years and we both hunt throughout the year. if the child is gonna be exposed to it then teach them about it the way i see it

well I appreciate all your ladies thoughts on the topic. it's nice to see that at least being well educated is the appropriate route. I honestly thought someone was gonna slam this topic or slam me for bringing it up. but for today's day in age, it's jus so important since we've had so many shootings in the few years.

our daughter will be learning how to shoot when shes 5. we are really big on guns and hubby is ex military. we have multiple rifles, shotguns and and handguns in this house and its better she learn to shoot than be afraid of them

@nessa_475 yes i agree, I'm not scared of them as I'm from the south lol but when I turn 21 I'm getting a pistol and i need my daughter to know look don't touch it you will learn to shoot it and what it will do, chances are she will learn to hunt anyway but I think the reason so many kids get hurt or killed with guns is because they're curious because they're parents only say don't touch it

we have a 308 and a 9mm in the house they stay loaded 24/7 but they are put up the only person that can reach them is my fiance because I'm scared to touch them while there loaded But I will touch one unloaded my fiance is going to teach me how to shot one and all the safety rules to it after the babies born because firing off a gun now will cause a baby to be deaf and I don't wanna take that risk@nessa_475

even if there isn't a gun in the house, children should still be well educated on the topic. I'm not sure the proper age on teaching them to shoot but it's not a bad idea

I agree. My husband and I plan on teaching and educating our children on guns. I did not handle a gun for the first time til a few months ago and I was so scared when we were at the gun range. We just bought our first and it's locked up but we really want the children to know and respect a gun.

Your a better mother for doing that, Just look at it that way.

I'm afraid of guns too but back then I was jus taught not to touch it so hubby is gonna teach me as well on gun safety. honestly there would be less shootings if children were taught at a young age about gun safety. @nathansmommy2 @hermommy

both my so and I conceal carry. . our kids have been taught about gun safety since they were mobile . my dad also teaches gun classes and when the kids are there during the summer they get to shoot on the range and be taught more as the grow. it's better t I understand something than be terrified of it.

Agree I rather my kid know how to defend them selves when they get older than to be like me and scared of guns!!!!!!!

I agree with you, my baby's grandma has guns laying around the house so she will know how to shoot them and not to touch them just so she doesn't have that curiosity of what a gun will do

I agree with you. Both me and my boyfriend have guns in the house. Yes. They are locked up unless they are on our hip. We will definitely teach our children gun safety and when they're old enough teach them to shoot.
