Overall whats everyones thoughts on this. Me personally I dont mind lgbt .but to teach it I feel like is a waste . I can teach my own children that if they ask or even wanna know

I don’t think she’s being homophobic ladies I see both side I honestly don’t want this thought to my children’s am I going to hide them from it no? I will have this talk with them myself? But then again I’m also not ok with the sex Ed classes either. Now as far as the religion thing and I’m not Christian but no religion “accepts” this now with that being said no religion accepts judgement and hatred towards another person so no I don’t think we should be making this a big deal in schools and this should be left for each house hold to deal with this on there own I think instead of this topic they maybe should have went for a class about differences and not judging and being kind people weather your “gay” one arm blind white black asian Arab ect. This is a very touchy subject and could actually make things worse as we are seeing in the comments I believe everyone needs respect and if they are doing wrong only god can judge.

@ek_, I don’t have Facebook But I’ve read the Bible. I haven’t said it’s not ok to be gay do what you want It doesn’t effect me, I just feel that teaching children about LGBT “history” is some what brainwashing.

I don't mind really but I don't think a class is necessary. Now my step daughter school has a LGBT club which I think is cool. If they could have the option I don't see nothing wrong.

We have SO MANY black and women influential historical people that it cannot possibly be taught in a day. ☺️
I literally cannot think of any major gay allies other than Freddy Mercury and Sir Elton. Maybe Ian McKellen.
I mean in a day they can discuss Matthew Shepard and how gays were persecuted and how now we do not tolerate that whatsoever anymore.
But when you compare it to the fact that women were second to men until recent history and blacks weren’t even considered human until they were but for years after they were considered second rate humans..
I don’t know maybe I just can’t wrap my small brain* around the fact that maybe this is its own civil rights movement and shouldn’t be compared.

There are so much better things they could be teaching children and there are so much better things they could be doing for children to help them learn better instead of wasting their time on a class like this because 1. It’s not the schools place to teach other people’s children about this. 2. It’s not going to help anything because kids are still going to bully and be heartless. 3. They don’t teach religion in school so this should be involved in that because this topic also plays apart in religion. 4. They could be making a class for kids who struggle in school and need the extra tutoring instead of this but that probably won’t happen because nowadays schools don’t care if your child gets left behind or held back a grade or two. 5. The teachers who would be teaching on this would probably throw their own opinions and beliefs into their teachings so I just don’t think having something like this would be a good idea at all. I would prefer my boys learn about things that could help them get a job or have a career instead of learning about something like this it would be wasting the children’s time and the teachers time in my opinion when they could be using that time to help keep children from getting held back a grade.

Honestly this upsets me! I have friends that are same sex and married and that’s fine but to teach this in school annoys me personally. One because there’s so many other classes they could make to help kids in the future second I will teach my kids about this topic when I feel it needs to be talked about and I will not be promoting it by any means 🤦🏻♀️
I think a lot of individuals need to learn to coexist with others, who may be unlike themselves (e.g., different race, different religion, different socioeconomic status, different sexual orientation, etc). It is life. However, I don't think certain preferences per say should be forced. Diversity is important to learn in school; however, I think that subjects, regarding the LGBT community, are very controversial and parents should have a choice as to whether or not they want their child to take a class, pertaining to this. Either way, I need to do my research and educate myself on exactly what this LGBT history course entails because this comment is solely based on what I read in your snapshot.

I'd rather teach these concepts to my child. I truly believe in tolerance, freedom to love and be loved, and for equal legal status...BUT I had a very confusing sex ed class taught to me in public school. I'd rather handle it and not a public school employee bumbling through it. There's no guarantee they even truly agree with it and are presenting it well. Edit: I didn't understand it was just acknowledging contributions to society made by people. I thought we were talking about Jazz being read to my kindergartner.

It isn’t part of sex ed, it’s part of the history curriculum. The curriculum would teach about contributions made by people from the LGBT community.

They’re not teaching children about being LGBT. They’re teaching about LGBT people who have made political, economic and social contributions. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

as long as the views are not pushed on my child i don't see a problem with it. a one time educational class like sex ed? that's cool. either my son is okay with it or he's not, i don't care, but i'm raising my child to not judge based on sexual orientation, race or color but on how they treat him. i mean if parents would open their minds to new things maybe this class wouldn't be necessary but maybe that's just me.

@irishtwinmommy, open their minds to the fact that a man can love a man, a woman can love a woman, a man can become a woman and vice versa. it doesn't have to be weird unless you make it weird. i have homosexual cousins, i loved them before and i love them now. as long as they're happy, i could care less if they love a man or a woman or a damn kitchen table.

If it’s older grades then I’d be fine with it.
