so my son is 7 months now and he recently started flipping to his stomach while sleeping he moves alot but man does this freak me out I feel like he can't breath so I don't sleep 😴 ... anyone else like this ? I think I'm just paranoid since reading this post on ig about babies accidentally suffocating while sleeping 😕 my daughter never slept on her stomach until after 1 but I could tell her nose wasn't to close to the mattress, my son on the other hand is doing it and eek I just can't
every mom has their comfort my SIL told me to always lay my daughter on her tummy (even when we first brought her home) then there was people saying no blankets or stuffed animals etc.. but me personally I had my daughter always propped on her booty and with a blanket (which she always kicked off ) haha . SIDS is a very scary thing. but don't let over thinking control everything, find your own boundaries your comfortable with and don't feel judged if you decide to do things differently then how its supposed to go.
I would like to add that the only safe objects in the crib would be SMALL lovies that cannot cover their face, and objects like blankets, pillows, bumpers, large stuffies/lovies and whatnot shouldn't have a place in the crib until they are 1 year or older. He may be able to control himself with rolling and moving around, but items like that still pose a hazard because (especially in a panic) he may not be able to figure out how to pull those objects off or away from his face if he has trouble breathing. I have a friend who's baby passed from SIDS so I can't tell you enough how important it is to follow guidelines for SIDS safety! If he is cold at night, layering is the key. Start with a cotton onesy and add from there socks, mittens, pants, footies, and even appropriately sized (not baggy enough by the face to slip up and cover it) sleep sacks.
that is definitely a huge factor in letting them sleep on their belly. newborns, all they can do sometimes is scream into their mattress where you can't hear them and get to them to help in time. but he moves around great, and I'm sure you notice when your baby is upset they are very fidgety and just keep moving around until they're calm, so the same would happen if he couldn't breathe. he would pick his head up and roll around while crying. just name sure there not a lot of things in his crib, at most he should have his blanket and lovies if he has any. and maybe a pillow if is necessary
Oh wow , yeah that's my son as well at first I was waking up every 20 min or so checking up on him but now hearing him move around puts me at ease with it , so I'm not losing sleep lol @hellosweetie
lol yes indeed easier said than done, but I'm coming at ease with it now , since seeing that he's able to move all over his crib and not just stay face down @reznor
@crunchymomma, oh yeah he's a crazy sleeper now he goes from his back to his side to his belly to the other side of the crib lol its crazy, and yeah he's pretty good with holding himself up I'm coming at ease with it now knowing that he's able to move from that position
it's definitely easier said then done when talking about not worrying about it haha
if he is able to roll both ways without a problem then he should be fine the risk is much higher when the baby can't turn over and that's why they suffocate... my daughter was a crazy sleeper as a baby! it will take time for you to feel at ease haha
My duaghter sleeps on her tummy sometimes, she's 6 months old...but she's been rolling fully both ways since 3 months, so she has great control with that, she's also army crawling and almost proper crawling, and pulling herself up to a stand, so as nerve wracking as it is, I know she's strong enough to get herself outta that position 😉 they say as long as you lay them down to sleep on their backs, if they are strong enough to roll into a different position they should be fine, I always keep a good eye on her but I don't keep myself up all night because of it 😜
can he roll from his belly to his sides? or back? or does he have enough strength in his arms to lift his head up off the mattress well?
if so he should be fine. suffocation is really only such a huge concern when they are small and don't have the ability to help them self when they can't breathe.
boppy not booty LMAO auto correct
