Okay my son is 12 days old I just have a question I'm breastfeeding him we're doing it every couple of hours the doctor actually told me to feed him every hour and every third hour to give him formula because of his weight but I'm feeding him and it seems like he's just not getting full with me. We have been to the doctor couple of times this week because he had to get his jaundice levels checked but it seems like even after feeding off of me all day he acts as tho he's starving and he's still only gaining an oz a day!!!! Im happy he is latching but what am I doing wrong??!!!

I don't think u should take him off the formula tho as it was mentioned. . my son was taken off because we thought he was ready once he reached a healthy weight and the weight came off faster than we put it on and it was scary and sad. things will get better I promise! :)

I had to do the same thing with my son because of his weight and he was on a weight gain preemie formula which was wayy thicker than my breast milk so what I did was I fed him formula every time and then towards the end gave him boob and it honestly ended up helping him poop since the preemie formula was so harsh and would constipate him.. I know it sucks having to give him formula for his weight gain but it gets better my son is off the weight gain formula and let me tell u it might suck I didn't get the full experience to breast feed with him but seeing my healthy chunky little man is way better <3

breastfeeding is all about supply and demand.. your body responds to babies cues.. pumping can cause an oversupply bc the sensors that are from baby are not on the pump flanges.. an oversupply sucks and can actually cause issues.. at week 12 baby is hitting a growth spurt, that's where cluster feeding comes from a d comfort nursing.. when you feel your let down coming (tingling) try popping baby off the boob and the. relatching.. a strong let down can make baby mad lol. if you want to up your supply.. the only true way is to latch the baby latch latch latch lol. if baby misses a feed then pump for the missed feeding. it'll get better. and remember just go by diaper count.. your body has gotten you the far, trust it ♡♡ @babiio1

I think if it seem like it's problem after a month then do the formula, don't give him formula now. also your boobies will have a let down when he cry.. just put him on the boob. he's probably fine.

It sounds like he's cluster feeding. New babies do that to get their mommy's milk supply up.

the only true way to tell is diaper count. formula will wean him away from the boob eventually. @babiio1

Just keep him on the boob! The first few weeks will make you feel like you're a walking milk machine but things will get easier!! Right now he's just stretching his stomach so he can take in more. His stomach is still tiny. Just keep at it! And remember milk is a supply and demand thing.. The more you nurse, the more your body will produce, and the easier it will be to get your baby full. =] keep it up momma!

breast milk is thinner so they are going to consume more. whenever I pumped my son would drink 5oz at just a couple weeks old. are you letting him drink until he's full?
