Didn't breastfeed with my first, but really want to this time around. I'll be having another C section and I'll be alone most of the time. Anyone have advice on how I can breastfeed baby while simultaneously caring for myself and nursing my incision? I'm a little scared. also, I haven't gotten my first milk yet and tomorrow is the first day of the 3rd trimester... should that be a worry..?

I didn't leak at all during my pregnancy. I also had a c section and had colostrum. So that's not a worry. Also as long as you don't do too much your incision will be okay

I didn't do anything the first time, but I had more help. I don't live near family anymore and I hate bothering people lol. but it's weird that I haven't gotten colostrum yet. I got it fast during my first pregnancy.

I had a c section and EBF my baby girl while alone most of the time. I suggest staying in one area of the house primarily my room was my choice. Of course you'll need to get up and use the bathroom etc! But it's best to have baby and everything you think you'll need for a while all in the same area; nursing pillow, water, diapers, wipes! Also using the football hold vs. the cross cradle position for the first couple weeks helped majorly!

@rileysmommy, thank you. I'll be in my room and living room. I'll have stuff in both rooms as well. another thing that's going to bother me is not going to be able to clean!!! I may just pay s friend to do it because I hate a dirty house!! I'll be taking breastfeeding classes this month so hopefully it goes well.

I had a c section with my daughter & I highly suggest the football hold so you don't irritate your incision. I had my colostrum towards the middle of my second trimester but that's only if I squeezed my boob & it didn't come out every time either. After my daughter was born, all I had was colostrum. my daughter was getting frustrated because she wasn't getting milk & she lost 11% of her body weight. My dr was talking about supplementing formula which I did NOT want to do. the nurses had me pumping & eventually on the last day, my milk came in. I went from only pumping an oz at the hospital to pumping a total of 6 to 8 oz at home. I honestly wouldn't worry .. everyone's milk comes in at a different time. Also, make sure your baby latches correctly! they should help you in the hospital & if they don't, ask! I learned the hard way & my nipples became sore & cracked - something that's *NOT normal so if that ever happens, check your latch. breastfeeding is a beautiful feel good experience. sometimes the beginning can be frustrating especially if it doesn't start how you want it to (no milk, difficulty latching etc) but DON'T GIVE UP! It's all worth it in the end 😊

I won't give up! and I'll be pumping as well. if I have to substitute, I'll be using organic or goats milk because honestly regular formula is crap and doesn't contain the live cells that breast milk does. but goats milk is the next best thing next to breast milk.

Football hold is how my friend breastfed after her cesarean

A lot of these suggestions are great, I just want to help bring some light on the supply issue here...how much colostrum you have now has NOTHING to do with how much you'll have later!!! A newborn baby doesn't need very much, colostrum is thick and full of nutrients and most babies lose wieght in the first few days of life, mine lost 9% of her body wieght and that's about normal. After the first week at most, baby should start gaining weight again and be back to birth weight by like 10 days postpartum or so. NOT EVERY WOMAN LEAKS DURING PREGNANCY. Keep that in mind! And again I will say, how much colostrum you have will NOT influence how much milk you will get!!! After birth, it'll be just colostrum for the first 3 to 5 days, and THEN your milk will come in! You'll probably notice when you hand express or pump the color changing from clear or yellowy, to a more milky yellow, then it'll look kinda white but not like cow's milk. You'll know when the milk is in when your breasts start to feel full between feeds, just feed the baby on demand, often, and it'll settle down and you won't get engorged as much when your body adjusts to how much the baby really needs! Remember, when the baby suckles and feeds it sends signals to your breasts to produce more to match the baby's needs, so if you wanna increase supply, feed the baby often!!! Don't let yourself get engorged, because that tells your breasts that you're making too much and to slow down. I would stay away from a pump for the first 4 to 6 weeks until your supply is truly established, because a pump does not stimulate the breast like the baby does and your supply can diminish, plus it can give baby nipple confusion to feed from a bottle and then he or she may refuse the breast or forget how to latch correctly. Good luck, I hope you have a wonderful breastfeeding relationship!!!

I use football hold with my son and I just place a pillow on my side to rest him on. I think it works better than the boppy and it's easier to adjust than the boppy. I hope that helps!
