Где начать частное обследование на дислексию для Моргана? SEND план не помогает!
Anyone know where I start by getting a private screening for Dyslexia for Morgan? I know schools are swamped, I get it. But I'm done waiting now. 3years of a SEND plan listing all his anxiety issues & how far behind he is but with absolutely nothing in place to help support him.
The SEND coordinator (as lovely as she is). Says she's reluctent to go down the Dyslexia route as she wants to 'get to the root cause of his anxiety & meltdowns'. Erm he's anxious because he's struggling & can't keep up. He's noticing he can't do what his class mates are doing & it's knocking his confidence to sh*t. The anxiety didn't start until he started school & generaly peaks when doing reading or writing tasks.
Excuse the rant just feeling frustrated at the system right now.

He doesn't need a diagnosis to be supported. Sound like you need a meeting with SENCO to discuss your concerns. Maybe a early help record needs to be put in place.

He saw an OT for the Dyspraxia screening. After the school helped me refer him to GP. Her report is half baked tbh. For example I said he can't use a knife a fork properly (he will pull the food apart not use a knife to cut). But in her notes she wrote 'Can use a knife & fork confidently'. 🤦🏻♀️
She suggested a Dyslexia screening as reading and writing seem to be the cause of his anxiety. Which she witnessed when when refused to do those tasks.

@em90 He might not be Dyslexic. I just feel (& the SENCO used to agree with me) that we need to look into different things to find it how best we can support him.
I'm feeling pretty shitty as a Mother that I can't help him with it. He either refuses to read (or do homework) or has meltdowns the moment he gets stuck & I can't talk him down.
Don't get me wrong his teacher this year is amazing. She has a lot of time for him & has done a great job since he's been in Year3. But not every teacher is like that. He's gonna go in to year 4,5, 6 etc. With possibly stricter teachers who don't understand his needs, which we've also had. Told he just needs to do it he's trying to get out of it etc etc.

you may be right he doesn't specifically have anything but he does sound like he needs to be supported better in school. Don't feel shitty about it my oldest is completely the same, we don't do homework because its just no good for his mental health and well being. He has started being more willing to read recently but this is only with support and intervention in place. Do you have anything like SENDIASS in your area they help with getting the support in place and you getting your point across. Please don't feel like a shit mum, the whole SEN process is shockingly shit and everything is a constant fight. It's not your fault!

I don’t have any advice but I just want to say I hope you get the right support for Morgan. I can’t imagine feeling how he is feeling and also how your feeling 😢 my sister went through primary school struggling with all aspects of education. She would refuse to go to school make up Illness. My mum had her to the doctor thinking she was really unwell. Her teachers kept calling her stupid and thick. (Genuine words from teachers) then a wonderful teacher in her last primary school recognised my sister had servers dyslexia and memory problems. She was in her class a week and she noticed it. She was failed throughout primary school but was given a lot of extra help in high school. Honestly when I think back to it like I don’t think I’d cope if it were me. I really hope you get somewhere xxx

Sorry I forgot to reply to your message. I just feel like the school are digging their heels in now. Which may not be the case but it feels like it.
Everything we discussed before Christmas, the next steps they were gonna take to gain more evidence and help Morgan, hasn't happened. They haven't done any of it. Now it's the end of Easter term. That's a whole term wasted. I emailed asking for another meeting & she's replied it will have to be after Easter now 🤦🏻♀️
Luckily his teachers are nice, they know his struggles, it's just getting to the cause so we know the best way to support him 🤷🏻♀️ It's definately a battle!
