I’m curious who eats greens with their holiday meals or in general. I’m seeing a lot of green beans and green bean casserole on y’all thanksgiving menus but I don’t see greens. A holiday in the south is paired with greens. 😋 I could never go without them.

Here is a pretty good simple recipe if anyone wants to make some. It also tells you how to clean them and pull of the steams. I suggest if you can to get them fresh from someone who has a garden, farmers market or we even have people who set up tables and sell them. They do have prepackaged ones but i promise the fresh ones are best. season to your taste. Hot sauce and vinegar is a must for me.

@dontblockmesis-imjustspeakingfacts, nope have not fried. Frying helps a lot of things though so I can see that working out ok. Can you explain the taste of greens at all or is it it’s own thing?

have you had fried okra? okra is definitely a southern side, especially fried.

Thanks for the tip! It’s been an option on my pick 10 produce delivery from the local co op several times but I fear the unknown. Okra seems to be big down here too? I’ve had it in soup before and not really sure I know why it’s popular

My dad grows mustard and collard greens, spinach, lettuce, purple Hull peas, tomatoes, corn, watermelon etc. I grew up eating greens. My dad cooked them using ham hock, I usually use bacon. Love me some good home cooked greens. Now I'm craving them lol

Ooooo I wasn’t aware hot sauce and vinegar could be involved! All my family is from IL and PA, so greens wouldn’t normally be on any of the holiday plans. I just love all food and have major food envy over all styles that actually involve flavor!

I've never had greens. Is it like cooked spinach?

Me neither. I watched the High on the Hog documentary on Netflix and really really really want to taste authentic soul food, but my entire family is northern. One side is from Canada and the other 1700s New England.

Never had them. New to living in the south but my other family here is also northern transplants so it never makes an appearance at our holiday meals. Green beans all the way for me

I would love them, but I would be the only one to eat them. We do a brussel sprout dish. It’s not truly a casserole, but it does have cheese and bacon.

Hey I’m 26 with two children #myfirstpost Okay I’ll be real and explained why I joined, I didn’t know I could be looked up or anyone would actually see this post, I was informed someone I know has been stealing pics and I came to look and see what’s going on if any of mine were on there or anyone else I knew. I just typed until it let me post since it was required before I could look around on the app.
