When can I see an NHS dentist for a check-up?

Has anybody been to a dentist as an NHS patient recently? I need to see a dentist for a check up, they say they won’t see NHS patients till after 6 months later the earliest. And I called earlier in June, they weren’t seeing patients either. Not sure what NHS patients do if they have a toothache 🤔

My partner had his crow reset recently using an NHS dentist... He had an appointment within the week. He couldn't get a private appointment anywhere though, at the time they seemed to be all booked up. Thinking about it he also had a filling replaced using the same dentist not long after, it was about 12 years old and it fell out, it was causing him quite a bit of pain.

Maybe it depends on the area? 🤔 I hope you manage to get seen soon!

I’m having problems with one of my teeth to and it’s causing a slight bit of pain I’ve managed to get an appointment but it isn’t until the 23rd November and that is just for a check up🙃I was worried they weren’t seeing patients either!

Has it been 6 months since your last check up?
If you have toothache let them know they should try to squeeze you in or refer you to an emergency dentist. My oldest had an abcess due to teeth grinding back in July/August and they managed to fit him in the next day.

@liya12 ah glad you don't have toothache. Most should be running as usual, but i guess as with everything there is a backlog due to covid. When we went into lockdown I had cracked a tooth and it was causing me hassle and no one would see me. Eventually the emergency dentist saw me as I said if they didn't sort it I'd rip it out myself! 😂

@em90, oh God, that must have been horrible. So how soon could you see a dentist when you cracked a tooth and how many appointments did it take to treat it? X

@liya12 it was about 2 months cause it was the middle of the first lockdown. Only had 1 appointment as I opted to have it pulled out. Had I asked for a root canal I would've had to have a follow up appointment with my dentist to complete it.
