Tonight is day one of attempting a gentle sleep training. We started a bedtime routine and right now daddy is rocking her. For anyone that has done gentle sleep training (no crying), what do I do when she (inevitably) wakes up the second we lay her down? I know eventually we want her to put herself to sleep but from what I read we want one new change at a time. (Which first new change is actually starting a bedtime routine)

My plan is to try and shush her to sleep/rub her head, but I've tried that before and she literally just stared at me the whole 20 minutes I did it while waking more and more up. 🙃

So, do i need to try longer doing that or just restart the task of trying?

What typically happens is I nurse her to sleep and spend all night trying to lay her on her crib, she instantly wakes up, repeat.

If she’s not crying, I would say good night and tip toe out. If she starts crying, calm her down and then tell her it’s time to sleep and try to leave. It’ll take some time to get her used to the new routine. Some nights will be harder than others, but you’ll be thankful you did it sooner rather than later. Just keep things consistent and don’t give up, she’ll get there!
