I've had an Epi with 2 out of 3 births. I am on #4 and will go without it this time. Yes you don't feel any "childbirth" pain, comes as pressure. But my recovery was really hard with my epidural births. My back ached and I couldn't stand properly for a while. Even now, I am very active, but if I do too much (long day at work, or 1 full day of housecleaning) I can feel the pain in my spine right where they have it to me. That makes life really hard when I'm chasing after so many kids.

I had Epi with my first because I was young, scared and alone during my birth. With my second I had it because "I did it with my first". With my third I did want one because I am now terrified of needles and I couldn't imagine going through it again, my nurse was actually the one to help push me to follow my feelings and not do it.... BEST RECOVERY EVER.

Yes the birthing part was more intense, but that part past rather quick (I also was induced with my third, so more intense than totally natural would have been), but I was up and walking around hours after, I felt great! I was ready to go home 3 hours after baby was there. No tearing (did a bit with my first 2), no trouble sleeping because of pain, and I felt great ( I felt really awful after the Epi would wear off with my first 2)... I even painted my upstairs 5 days after my baby was born because I felt awesome.

Some women work with the Epidural, I am not one of them. Our bodies are created to do this, and yes the epidural has benefits, but God did design us to have children without the epi, and I strongly believe that we should let our bodies handle themselves without interfering as much.

@xryztalroze, @kokopapell, for us mothers that had C-sections (for me, that came after pushing for 2 hours and feeling every bit of it and still couldn’t get baby out), it is disheartening to hear statements like “Our bodies are designed for this”.

Clearly my body couldn’t do it....and it breaks my heart. Just because things went well for you, doesn’t mean they always do for everyone.

I'm sorry you had a tough time but I stand by what I feel and realize there are circumstances when interventions are needed. We are not discussing C-sections here. We are talking about vaginal delivery. In the case of vaginal delivery I don't believe in epidural. My cousin has had all five of her children by C-section and we have discussed this in detail. I don't believe in interventions unless absolutely necessary. That is not meant to be a hurtful statement in any way. I hope you and your baby are healthy and well. In the end that's really all that matters and as I stated above I don't think getting an epidural is wrong, just wrong for me. Have a great day mama.

I loved my epidurals. Worked great both times. May try without this time only because I had one in 2016, 2017 and I’ll be giving birth in 2019 and feel like that’s a whole lot of epidural and have been having tons of headaches and back pain and I’m scared to make it worse! But we’ll see 😂

I'm against them for myself. I've heard too many horror stories about people having back trouble later on and slowing birthing down. I've had 2 unmedicated births. The first I was induced and the second came natural. If I ever had another it would be unmedicated as well.

I’m neutral. I had one with my first and it messed up my back pretty bad. I’m gonna try to go without for this baby but it’s not completely off the table though either.

@naylaa @mommybear95 @sassy_momma @wildflowermama @harloeagain21 @kokopapell @xryztalroze @massmomma16 i was just wondering what everyone thought i personally didnt have epidurals with either births but both of my births were quick and easy with my first i was supposed to be induced i did get the cervadil to ripen my cervix but that put me into labor and 6hrs after my daughter was born and also with my son my labor lasted 3hrs it would of been sooner bt my water hsdnt broken and they waited for my dr to get there to break it. Also my second labor was all back labor it hurt much more than my first labor. I am not personally against nor for the epidurals i just feel like everyone knows when that moment comes what they can or cannot handle

That's fair. It never hurts to ask for opinions. Just because you do doesn't mean you have to follow the ones given. I think most people who have strong opinions and really know why they believe in something have valid points ( even the ones I disagree with) and we can all learn something new. If for no other reason I will not use one because I already have nerve issues and the risks outweigh the benefits for me. I don't think it's wrong to use one but it is wrong for me. And I think it's best not to. But we must all make our own choices. Thanks for bringing it up and responding to all of us. I like when we can discuss "hot topics" respectfully to gain others view points and experiences.

I went in with an open mind. I actually wanted to try to go without just because! But there is no way I could personally do that for the 8 hours I was in labor. I’m a wimp. Lol if a momma wants to go without I support and encourage her. Same if they go without. End result is a happy healthy baby either way! 🤞🏼

Personally, I'm against them. The risks out weigh the benefit for me. 2 unmedicated births later(one induced the other completely natural) and I still believe natural, without epidural is better.

Potential risks: nerve damage both temporary and permanent, paralysis, temporary or permanent nerve pain and muscle damage, slowed or stalled labor leading to C-section, less alertness for baby and more. To each their own but for me it's an easy no thank you.

Sadly we only hear of the horror stories of childbirth which improperly inform us of what it must be like. I agree that God designed us for childbirth and it's best to go without. I was absolutely terrified beyond mention of child birth until I had my first and I'm grateful for the midwife I had who educated me about my body and how to understand child birth because it made all the difference in having a successful unmedicated birth and to stick to my beliefs.
