So I’ve been breastfeeding since Skye was born but I’m still not having a lot of milk come through so I’m having to give her formula to top her up, at the beginning hardly any milk came through, then a few weeks after I was easily getting 6ozs and now I’m lucky if I can get 3 out, why has it gone down?? I breastfeed and I pump on top of that too, any suggestions??

I got nothing out from pumping but baby gained weight pumping isn’t always a true reflection

@lovemyboys8, thanks Hun 😊, Skye is gaining weight really well and the health visitor is pleased with her progress, I thought my body wasn’t producing enough milk as every time after a feed she always still hungry x

@sarahlucindagiddins, is she hungry or just looking for a little snack/top up? Ten minutes might satisfy her? Your supply will settle soon and you might manage to pump higher volumes. It’s so difficult to know when they are so little x

@casey19, exactly, she is on me for quite a while, she tends to eat her hand and start crying about 10 mins after a feed so I will give her 3ozs of formula and that tends to be enough, but before I would give her that I will put her back on me but the way she goes on like there’s no milk coming out and she gets very frustrated. I’ve spoken to the health visitor / midwife about producing more milk and they said to put Skye on me for longer and pump but nothing seems to work x

@sarahlucindagiddins, try keep her close through her top up. When Hamish was little and I struggled with supply I would run a bath for us twice a day, with swim nappy on as he guaranteed pooped we would lie in the warm water I would try hand express slightly to start supply and latch him on. I needed my hubby there to help get him in and out safely and dry him when I got dried, worked for my supply. Also simple things like making sure you are getting enough water and try eating oats every day it’s meant to help supply and eating enough in general xx

@casey19, I’ll try having a bath with Skye, I’ve wanted to do that for the last few weeks but worried she wouldn’t like it, my eating is abit all over the place atm I get so busy with the kids and forget to eat. I didn’t breastfeed my first one and only managed a couple of months with my second, but this time I’m determined to do it for as long as possible 😊, thanks for the advice xx

@sarahlucindagiddins, message me anytime I work with health visitors and speak to bf mums regularly their hands are tied to professional advice only. I loved our baths, helped a blocked duct as well! I scooped water over him and kept him cosy lying down my belly so most of him was covered in water. Proper Eating and water intake can greatly, even get oh to make a sandwich you can grab during the day, use slow cooker for tea time so you can throw food in and not think about it, baby led weaning slow cook app has some amazing recipes. I’m all for making life easier especially with a newborn! I would also say your supply should settle about 6-8 weeks but it’s also when a little sleep regression starts so is a confusing time xx

@casey19, I love the idea of the bath with Skye, skin to skin she loves 😊, oh I’m the same lol making life easier, everything is abit manic atm so any advice is appreciated 😊, I’m not getting a lot of sleep atm Skye is still getting into a routine but she is getting better and it’s hard to get any sleep during the day as I have 2 other kids too, but when they are in school I will try and sleep a little but I always have things to do xx

@lovemyboys8, that’s really interesting, I’ve never heard of that before lol I can relate to that as well she does have different sucking stages, I’m going to ask the health visitor to do the weigh feed and see what that says, thanks Hun 😊 xx
