I talked to my sons parents. It didn’t go well. I’m gravely concerned for his health. I don’t know if it was because it was me? Or they just didn’t want to hear it? Or if they really don’t think there’s a problem here. I’m so over these people and what they’ve done and are doing to my kid. They want him to come home today. So now I’m looking for flights. I hope they don’t expect that I’m buying this ticket. I will already be out $350 from the other ticket I bought him to fly home, I’m not about to spend another $350 when his original flight is on Wednesday all because I told them the truth about what I’m seeing.

I'm so sorry! Denial can be so strong for some people that they will immediately shut down when they are forced to face the reality. How soon will he turn 18?

I’m sorry. Can you tell them that he will only be on a flight today at their expense, otherwise he can be home on Wednesday as originally planned?

I know you entrusted them with him so I am very sorry that this is happening

@muksu, exactly what it says? His parents.

@oddie, they bought the ticket just now. He’s going home at 11.

@honeyxxbee, I don’t think it did any good. My social worker friend is encouraging me to call CPS.

Whoa! What is going on? Why did they insist he come home today? I’m sorry you’re dealing with this!

@evildrporkchop., I’m not even sure. They are angry.

I’m so sorry squishy. It hurts my heart for you. If you feel like they should be investigated, calling is a good idea. That way they can do something about it before six months from now.

I can't imagine how difficult this whole situation has been for you. Are your concerns something that they need to deal with immediately or is it something that you can help him with in 6 months time? Has he been receptive to your advice and guidance while he's been with you? I'm sorry to be asking so many questions. You don't have to answer if it's too personal. You can also pm me anytime. Hugs!

If they’re angry he must have told you something they told him not to? I’d call! I couldn’t put him on a plane to go back to whatever is happening to him. 💔

@yayacarrington, No. they need to be addressed. Right now. He needs to be in inpatient treatment for anorexia.

yayacarrington

Then, yes, he definitely needs immediate treatment. My heart hurts for you. Truly. I don't usually like cps involvement, but in this case I think it's necessary. If his parents aren't willing to help him then they aren't leaving you any choice.

@yayacarrington, I don’t even know what to think about his parents honestly. His mom claims he’s been under the care of an endo for years. Which I can’t imagine is the actual truth because he’s legit 79 lbs. not kidding. He doesn’t eat. He has lanugo on his body and I do not believe that not a single person has never said the words anorexia to them.

Do you have any rights still because you may have a say if not then call and file a report with social services

That's all very concerning. You absolutely did the right thing by talking to them about it. My hope is that once the "shock" wears off that they are able to see that your concerns are valid. I wonder if part of their issue is that they feel guilty. You trusted that they would care for your child and maybe deep down they know that they haven't done their best to help him.

- Your sons parents ? What does that mean.. can you notify the police department in their area ? Have them do a wellness check.

A lot of parents can be in denial about anorexia or any other mental illness , my parents were for a very long time and they had it stuck in their mind they could just make me eat , it then became a power struggle and hiding food, and eventually just out right saying I refuse to eat no matter the consequences because it was my choice .

People with eating disorder have very deep rooted issues that take a lot of work to address that is a very lw I'm hoping that they have med coverage to get him ip . I hope your able to keep contact with him to assure he's getting adequate care !

Feel free to dm me any time I've personally dealt with an Ed most of my life

I’ll be praying for your son Squishy. 🙏 You’re a smart strong momma and I’m sure you’ll make the right decision.

squishymommy1

@romeowhiskey, you could have looked at my profile or read any previous post. It’s in the bio. I’m a first mom. I gave a child up for adoption.

spicybpancake

R🦖

- I thought it was a typo. First time mom 🤷🏻‍♀️I’m not familiar with the terminology regardless. Thanks for explaining. Can you do that ? Will they let you adopt him back ?

Honestly I was confused at first too. We can’t see your bio unless we’re friends but after reading the comments it made sense

squishymommy1

squishymommy1

@romeowhiskey, he’s almost 18 (like in 6 months). That’s just not a realistic venue at this point. I’m concerned. Greatly. At the very least they need to be held accountable for signing the papers to allow him to drop out of high school as a sophomore.

spicybpancake

R🦖

- Oh no! How awful! Why did he want to drop out ? I think that’s amazing that he gets to know you. We recently met my grandmas first mom ? Her first son. Amazing experience.

squishymommy1

squishymommy1

@romeowhiskey, there’s many terms! “Birthmom” is the colloquial accepted term and part of PAL (positive adoption language) there’s also HAL (honest adoption language) which uses First Mom or natural mom. I personally like first mom.

The real reason? I think he didn’t want to do the work and his parents didn’t want to listen to it. About how he didn’t want to do the work and whatever else he could tell them to manipulate them into signing it. He’s grossly undereducated. He couldn’t even put a date on a form.

spicybpancake

R🦖

- So that’s pretty interesting. I guess we use PAL? I’m sorry to hear that. They’ve handicapped him. Not that he’s handicapped. He’s just going to have a harder time playing catch-up 💔 is that why you’re torn about him moving in ?

squishymommy1

squishymommy1

@romeowhiskey, him moving in is a really complicated issue. He wasn’t able to follow the rules for 3 weeks while visiting, and we have 5 other kids. I WANT him to be here. I do think him being here would be a HUGE benefit. I think I could kick his ass into gear to graduate high school. But hes a minor. So I don’t get a say.

spicybpancake

R🦖

- Oh yikes! Yes! I don’t know how you’d handle that. I know you could, I don’t have a teenager myself, but I deal with my sister a lot 🙄 not sure how my mom has any hair left. Once he’s 18 it’ll be harder ? he’ll be less likely to listen. You know, adult shoes and all. I’m sorry that this has happened. I do hope it all get straightened out. Him being in your boot camp would definitely be great for his future! Hard to do anything without a high school diploma. I’ll keep an eye out for updates! 💪🏻 I do hope it gets better.

squishymommy1

squishymommy1

@muksu, no. I am his mother because he came out of my vagina. But I am not his parent.

muksu

muksu

oh I see... the first thing I.would do is, to get him some great study budy or teacher to help him and only him... needs to be someone he likes and he probably will make progress and start to like it more... high school and such is not the most important I think, he needs just something in his life he likes...

And yes about the other stuff, someone should come and check what's going on... even though they often don't do anything in cases they should... so i hope it works out for you!!! take care and good luck :)

@squishymommy1 I was reading the other comments and saw your explanation... so makes more sense now... and it's great that you at least have contact, even though you couldn't keep him :(

@itsamemario, you deleted your post before I could hit send but this is my comment: I don’t know if this answers your question but this is my answer. My son is 7 and he knows race and color. Why? Because he himself comes from a family that is multi racial and because he has already experienced racism. I also believe as his mother it’s my job to teach him color and the cold hard truth about society. He knows what’s going on in this world. I’d be hurting him if I allowed him to blindly walk outside without this information. Children of color are being targeted and killed too. It’s not just adults. I let my son know we treat everyone equally and with respect. I let him know that we love everyone for their differences. In every aspect. Color, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference we love everyone.
