So sad

My daughter was awarded a scholarship at a top private school. Tomorrow she is starting year 7 and is going to be a weekly boarding student, so she will only be coming home for the weekends. I know it's an amazing opportunity but I can't stop crying, I'm so upset. I'm going to miss her so much ? I had her at 18 and raised her by myself, so it's always mainly been her and I. I just want a good future for her but I feel like I'm doing the wrong thing. Did anyone else go to boarding school?

Thank you everyone. Haylot - she can definitely change to a day girl if she finds boarding isn't for her.

I commutes about an hour by the time you factored in walking and train to my school and it was perfectly doable. Not an issue at all.

I also had friends who travelled from the Campbelltown area to the eastern suburbs to go to schools there. Which would have easily been an hour and a half. Probably closer to two.

So if she would prefer not to board you can totally do that. ?

I went to St Vincent's at Potts Point. Boarders had really strong bonds no matter their ages, it was like a family.

I think you're doing the right thing. This is a fabulous opportunity for her and a good education is so important and a great start in life.

Thank you to all of you. I have just left the school and had a little cry in the car! She is an amazing girl and has achieved so much.

If she does not like boarding she is definitely able to become a day girl but I would like to live a lot closer. This morning it took us an hour in the traffic and it would take her around an hour and a half on public transport. Catching a bus then two trains.

I want her to have opportunities I never had and our local high schools just can't offer what this school does

Is she happy? I think being awarded that is an AMAZING experience, but more important that you're both happy. I'd peers ally be trialing it for the year and going from there; schools are important, but not as important as the life lessons you can learn from your life.

Stay strong mumma!!

Good on your daughter for getting a scholarship! What an amazing opportunity and such a proud mumma moment for you!

To this day my OH is upset with his family for not putting his education as a priority. Every kid who lived around him was sent to boarding school. He was sent to the local school (still an hour away). It had 6 kids and really nothing to offer in the way of curriculum. Their teachers were also terrible. They were allowed to smoke in class as long as they blew it out the window. Yeah. Terrible!

I went to a very good cathloic bording school years 8-12 i loved it made great life long friends. I was from the country so my parents were 4 hours away but would see them about 3 times a term. The first year was the hardest but was to be expected.... oh but the food wasnt the best! I brought salads rolls from the tuckshop everyday so i was eating something good...

I was a day student at a selective boarding school. The boarders were definitely s tight knit family and everyone I know loved being a boarder.

Congratulations to you and your dd. It's sounds like you're doing a wonderful job. ?

And she may have to stay as part of the scholarship. I knew a guy who lived around the corner from me who was a boarding student partly because he didnt get accepted as s day student. ☺️

I have friends who boarded, they loved it and speak really fondly of boarding.

They made lifelong friends, and learnt early on to be independent.

I know its hard, but it is a great opportunity for her, and i'm sure it will be much harder for you than her.

Luckily its not a huge distance to travel, so you can be there if she needs you

You are an awesome mum to put what's best for her ahead of your own feelings! It is an amazing opportunity and you will both be very grateful down the track. I think a Wednesday visit is a great idea.

If only half hour away can't she stay home and just go every day? Why board?

Bubbyadventure I'm only around half an hour away so I'm thinking I could definitely maybe pop in on Wednesdays or something. That's a really good idea

Itsaebony i definitely know the difference a good school can make. I went to crappy schools and barely finished year 10 and my sister went to a top school and got 97 in her HSC. She now has her dream job and is doing amazing in life. I had a baby way too young and struggled trying to work to support us. So I could never afford to study

Thank you to all of you, you have all made me feel so much better xxxx ??

How does your daughter feel about it? I understand the importance of going to a good school. I went to a good school and my oh went to a poorly performing one and the difference in our careers is massive!!

So it's hard for me because my 16 year old past the test when she was in third grade and my niece passed it last year and now all my daughter's friends will be going to the third grade and she will be repeating and I don't want to send her back to the same school to be bullied because she has to repeat a grade and so I'm looking into other schools but see the thing is you teach her something she gets it then you go back to it and she like I don't know it so frustrating and she likes to wonder off so I'm scared to bus her because they lost her 2times on the bus and just the other day they let her walk home by herself I'm just in over my head please pray for me that I can find the right school and get an understanding of what to do

I can't believe it My cousin stayed with me rent free from September 2015 to April 2016 and her stuff is still in my apartment. She's been saying she was going to come get her stuff for months. She text me this morning saying that she was going to come and get her stuff soon, and I asked her if I could have her air mattress. She tried to charge me $60 for it. The air mattress sells new for $35 on amazon and she didn't even pay $60 for it. I didn't respond and she just text me saying the $60 was for a microwave she bought me and her air mattress. When she got the microwave, it was a gift. Then when my son was in the hospital from October to January out of town, I was going to get my internet service turned off until I returned home. My cousin was doing school work online, so I paid for it while I was away so she could use it. I'm trying to figure out a response to her. ?

is it wrong to be frustrated that my daughter acts like she can't do certain things with out my help. she plays dumb a lot and I wish I could be like no girl show what you know. she acts like she can't trace or match shapes so shes ask for "mommy finger" to help her so I barely hold her hand and she magically can do it but if I dont hold her hand she just scribbles and acts like she doesnt know the pic is how she traces when I'm "helping her" otherwise it'll just be scribbles all over the page

FTM problems... So I've made it pretty clear that I want to buy my daughter her fist Halloween costume. Her babysitter/nanny keeps saying she wanted to make her one. I told her yesterday that I wanted to find her something that my SO and I could dress up as a family. So I told her I am going to get it. She just text me and said 'not trying to step on your toes but I bought her two costumes'. She does this all the time. Anytime I want to do the "first" things with her she immediately does it. It's making me sad. Like I wish I could quit my job and be home with her.
