What do you think is fair?

What do you think is fair?

DF and I pay $885.00 a month for a 2 bedroom 825sqft apartment. We pay for electric, water, cable and Internet separately. My parents are getting a divorce and my dad has 2 dogs that he can't take care of because of the hours he works. DF and I were talking about moving in with my dad to help him take care of the house and dogs because now that he has to pay spousal support to my mom money will be tight for him. We will be paying to live there. My dad told us to come up with what we think is fair for rent (we are a family of 4, 2 adults 2 children) I'm not sure what sounds fair. All utilities are included and comes with cable and Internet. We will also be helping with groceries. What do you think is a fair amount ?

When i lived with my grandparents, my husband and i paid a third of the household expenses. My parents also paid a third and my grandparents paid a third. (It was a very large house. The only thing we didnt have was our own kitchen.)

I would see what half of the expenses are and start there. If that isnt enough, then you could offer more.

I would research apartment costs in the area and offer that so 500 + cable, electric, and gas. Most places provide water sewer and garbage. You are going from a private space to a shared space definitely wouldn't offer more than you currently pay. And paying for groceries seems fair as he is 1 person. Good luck. It is nice to help him and 700 is half his spousal support which is a good big help. Good luck

We are also trying to save while doing this because we can't afford to save money living in our apartment right now. With Grayson's health issues and constant dr appts and home care visits I cannot work.

Edit: DF and I are talking about it but this was my fathers suggestion on us moving in.

@Attica we pay 885 a month for our apartment. With water watch, cable (we only pay for the box and Internet because standard cable is included in our monthly rent) and electric it brings us to $1018.00 a month plus groceries. I wouldn't pay more to live in a random persons house for more.

It would be about $1300 a month with groceries included if we pay $800 a month plus groceries. We spend about $500 a month in groceries but I buy my meat in bigger portions and freeze them.

I think 800 and you guys buy all the groceries. So you technically are saving but not being selfish at the same time. I'm sure he would be fine with that amount.

That's a good point fluffy. I suppose I'd pay the same amount I was paying now- it's still for two rooms.

If he will push you to pay less and it's a blessing to you, perhaps $700?

How much would you pay if it wasn't your dad? We tend to talk ourselves into paying less when it's just out family. But if you were sharing the house with some random person, wound it change anything?

Honestly if it was my dad I would be offering the most I could give , but that is only because it's my dad

Wouldn't groceries for 3 adults and 3 kids be much more of a burden? Idk where you live, but if you were covering all groceries in NY you'd be spending $500 a month, on average (my best guess).

He did and she wouldn't agree to it so it was putting the divorce off. She has lived with him for 5 years for free. Not working or anything. He has paid all of her bills and got her a newer car all while knowing they were getting a divorce. She is lazy and makes everyone's lives hell.

Yeah my mom took him to the cleaners on this one ?

I think it's pretty fair. Hopefully he will agree to it.

@ sister wife. He is paying $1400 a month in spousal support. That would be more than what we pay for our apartment and then some. I was thinking about offering him $800 a month and we cover all the groceries for everyone. Does that sound fair ?

Yeah, I would say $1000 since you're getting 2 out of 4 rooms available and everything else is being paid for. Then with the groceries, maybe 75/25 just because your more but that's my personal opinion and move.

Even though you say he wouldn't accept it I'd still offer $1,000 a month. It seems to be about what you pay now minus cable and internet. You also say he isn't home much so it would be like you lived alone anyway.

4 bedrooms and we will have 2 rooms. This is to help my dad out while saving us some money to buy a house at the same time. We plan to take the dogs for my dad once we do get our own house.

My dad wouldn't ever make us pay half of the mortgage. If I tried he wouldn't accept it. He pays about $2000 a month for mortgage electric gas and water.

It depends on his mortgage/rent. We rented out a room in a 3 bedroom house for $600 a month when our rent was $1800. That was in CA. That included utilities, full use of the house and food. However, I wouldn't charge that much in a place where the cost of living is much lower. We rent out a 2000 square foot house for $1050 a month and that's in NE.

My dad is charging my sister $400 for her family of 4. She also pays half the grocery bill each time they go grocery shopping.

I would spilt it 50/50

How many rooms is the house and how many will your family be using? Also do you know what his mortgage payment is each month?

What does your father pay in rent and utilities? Depending on that I would take and divide it by 5. Since there are 4 in your family it's only fair you pay a bit more. If that's to much I'd offer to pay 2/3 of the amount.

So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. Keep the baby or Abortion.......

Keep the baby or Abortion....... I'm 5 weeks pregnant which was not planned, told my family and there over the moon. I've been with my boyfriend for 4 years, we said we would be together no matter what. We both live with our parents and I'm in full-time work and he isn't. I've always wanted to be a mum it's one of my dreams, but my boyfriend thinks we should have an abortion because he thinks we are not ready, he doesn't have a full-time job and we are not living together. I don't believe in abortions and he said he would stay with me if I decide to keep it. But I scared he might leave. Should I keep the baby that I've always wanted and might not ever have one or have in abortion, know I have to live with the pain for the rest of my life and what till we are both ready? Please HELP :-(

At What Age Should a Child Make Their Own Breakfast?

Make your own breakfast! At what age do you think a child should be making their own breakfast? I have a 10 year old and I think he is perfectly capable of making himself breakfast. It doesn't take rocket science to put some waffles into the toaster, or microwave some pancakes. My husband insists that he needs to have breakfast made for him because if we left it up to him he wouldn't eat enough and it would take him forever.
