Sugargliders

So I feel like I've made a huge mistake. First off,I dont take pet ownership lightly and I did research, but I didn't research diseases until it was too late. We bought a baby glider today. I'm 38 wks pg and freaking OUT about it being near the infant now. Does anyone here own them? Can you offer peace if mind? Am I overreacting?

good luck.

get a pouch for it that was the only way ours would shut up.

we had to carry the thing in his pouch all day. or it would make that awful sound.

Ick. They are cute but I can't be near them. When I was in middle school I was watching my friend's and we had to feed it worms. I was sitting by the cage while it was eating and worm guts splashed out onto my legs. Scarred for life!

well it cried all night. dh had to get up and play with it at 5:30,then it napped. The breeder called and said nooo take backs, which I understand. I used to breed show fish and I wouldnt want to just toss a fish that had been gone a day back with my others. Its eating today and not screaming and lunging so thats good I guess.

He said it would sell in 24-48 hrs on craigslist if we go that route.

My friend rescued two and nursed them back to health. Then they mated and now he has seven. :) they are cute when they play together. They even do tricks for him.

Omg! I have always wanted a sugar glider!! :) my best friends brother had a pair :) and like a lot of pp said, they are best kept in pairs...a lot of the times if it's just one he/she will get very depressed and sometimes die :( my friends brother learned that the hard way :(

Im also shocked....being Australian they are a protected, native species. How is it that you can keep them as pets???

Moreover, why would you want to keep them as pets??? Lol it would be like have a flying fox or possum! Hahaha

If anyone is interested, I have a mother and baby possum that are living in my house at the moment and are being a right pain in my ass! I was gonna pay someone to catch them, but if anyone wants a new pet......

thanks, girl. I'm leaving the bonding to hubby and my 13 yo dd,I'll do the food but otherwise I'm pretty disinterested in it what with a baby on the way and I have a dog by my side 24/7. I'm just gonna have to remind my pigpen of a husband to wash his hands constantly. And if I can get used to its squawking,I'll keep it..

My husband says they are not disease in your hand but theydp carry disease like a cat or dog would. They are very hard to take care of like a baby high maintance. They need a partner And they need to bond with a family.

I think you you should take extra precaution of cleansing but you should keep it and bond.

You know like its your dragon! Bond!

no way r u serious? u can actually own one of those? wow... I wouldn't tho... u should contact the wildlife shelter or something and surrender it. they'll take care of it.

Thank you breeze. He's only 8 wks old,my dh says to ask your hubby if they're "disease in your hand?" (lol,he so wants to keep it)

also, aware they need companionship, I'd get another if I knew for sure it wasnt..furry death to babys.

How much are you willing to.sell it for? Curious buyer! My husband knows everything about sugargliders. We have been looking into a purchase.

Sugar gliders are social animals and need to have a family unit. You should have a minimum of 2. I think they are a very high maintenance pet or someone with a newborn.

I'm gonna try to take him to the breeder tomorrow but I'm worried he wont take it back. I'm willing to take a cut on the cost but I'm not just gonna give it to him at a total loss. I could sell it if I tried,I'm sure.

I can't believe you are allowed to keep them as pets. They are a protected native animal in Australia and illegal as pets.

I agree with a previous poster. If you can take it back to the breeder where you got it, do it! I think you'll be hard pressed with a newborn and a high maintenance pet.

its been years since i had one but they need all kinds of medication and vitamin supplements.

when they get scared they make the most god awful sound.

they need so much attention i don't know mixing one with a new born is a good idea.

oh its already a pain in the ass. I'm more concerned with germs/disease atm though. I dont want it making the baby sick!

Personally I would try to return it. You may not get your money back, but you could give it back. A friend of mine had one. He was very responsible, but that thing was a nightmare. I don't think it's the best thing to have around a baby.

Haha I was so confused! For a minute I thought you were talking about a glider like a rocking chair! I wasn't sure what that had to do with owning a pet . Whoops!

Short Luteal Phase?

I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
