Yea he bit me so hard yesterday i started bleeding. Im sore all over again as if im new to breastfeeding.

This is my third, and she is definitely the worst biter! Actually, it's more like she clamps down and then pulls - all seemingly part of her nursing gymnastics routine! None of the tricks mentioned above (which is basically what I did with my first 2) seem to work this time. I try to pull her into me when she does this (instinct tells me to get her off of me, but she is still connected, lol!) and "yell" no! She gets startled but seems confused as to why I'm doing what I'm doing... The problem I'm having is that while she doesn't do this constantly, it's so bad when she does that I have fissures that kill me for days. Nipple cream is my BFF once again!

My son is doing the same thing.... he usually does it as he's falling asleep though at night, he clamps down so hard! He doesn't even react any more when I say ouch in a loud tone.. it sucks because when I stop feeding him too soon he wakes up and screams.. so I have to do it until he falls asleep and it always happens. Plus I don't want to wake him up and I don't think he even knows he's doing it. Ugh, so painful!

This could be related to his trouble latching or coordinating his tongue movement as you mentioned in another post. He could be using his teeth to compensate.

My friend said you can lightly plug their nose. They have to stop biting and open their mouth to breathe. Also, they think it's annoying, and they'll stop.

My son has bit me a few times, but it seemed to be on accident and he didn't continue, thank goodness. It hurts so bad! I yell "ow!" And he looks at me all shocked like "what happened to you?!" Lol

I say ouch sort of loudly and take my breast away. I've noticed that once he stops teething, he doesn't bite any more. They are beginning to understand the word no, so make sure to use that too

Our pedestrian said to do a gentle thump on his mouth when he does it. I haven't needed to yet though.

Babies respond to hitting. I usually say a semi loud ouch and that usually gets his attention. I make a sad face and remove him remove my breast. If he is restless I will let him go play for a little bit and then try again. If it's teething I will remove him and give him a teething toy. He has gotten better. Almost no biting now.

My lactation specialist said to lightly pop him on the mouth and say no and close up shop. I was also told when they start biting it means they are done eating and wanting to play.

What tricks have you tried?

No i dont give him any oral gels or anything , i don't like that stuff.

It may seem harsh, but maybe try a gentle hand slap and a firm "no bite" as soon as he does it, then put him down. I personally believe it is soon enough to set limits like that. If a consequence doesn't immediately follow a bite, he will not realize that noting is the behavior you don't want. It may be enough for some babies to just put them down, but just like when they're older, the consequence might need to be stronger before you make an impact!

Also, if you're using Ora-gel or anything topical that is for teething pain, stop using since you BF. The numbness in his mouth will make him bite more because of the decreased sensitivity.
