I told my 4 year old that mommy and daddy wanted a baby and so we got a baby. Lol. Thankfully he seems ok with that. Now the hard part for me is explaining how babies are born! So far we just told him the doctor just takes it out. Hahaha!

I think you're right- to tell them as much as the truth as you can. My parents avoided the subject and because of that sex was always an awkward topic-even seeing kissing/romance commercials were embarrassing so I think it is best we talk early with my kiddos about sex and all that good stuff!!

I tell my 2 year old the truth basically, in kid friendly terms :)

My little brother asked me when he was 6 and I was 15. I told him that mommies drink a potion to make a baby grow in their bellies. He asked where the potion comes from and for what reason I don't know I responded with Milwaukee lol. He believed and told many people for years about how babies come from Milwaukee.

At 5 - I would say how it is.

I was a full time nanny and at 3.5 all the kids knew how they get in and how they get out. Sex, penis, vagina and how many holes there are and what's their purpose. - this was all explained. In a fun way of course.

They got it right away. Asked if it hurts. Does it hurt dad when baby comes out or when the juices from dad come out.

Kids are smarter than we think - they can get it.

One time I had the older girl -6 come back from school and she had to tell me something. So I listen. She told me her friend thinks babies come from bees - and she laughed and said "if they did you would have wings silly".

I have a 4 and 6 year old and I told them the truth. I remember when I was pregnant with my now 6 year old and her brothers asking me. I totally whipped out the science videos on YouTube.

When my son asked me at 4 I asked him what he thought and he said "a man sicks up a seed and the lady eats it and it grows in the belly" i never told him he was right but never said he was wrong either i love his innocent mind,, at 5 he noticed the blood (periods) and thought I was going to die so I played along with his story and said not every seed grows and if it doesn't grow it goes bad and will make me very poorly so the blood washes away the rotten seed he's totally happy with that and doesnt think its funny or gross like most kids would x

My daughter caught me totally off guard one day long before we got pregnant and the best thing I came up with was that when a mommy and daddy love each other they plant a seed in mommy's tummy and it grows into a baby. Fast forward about 2 years and she still remembered it and was telling everyone that daddy planted a seed in mommy and now she's going to be a big sister... not totally true, but kinda the same concept.. Lol

My parents didn't talk to me about that stuff when I was little and if anything it made me more curious because it was never talked about.

Lord I wouldn't even know where to start. My 2 year old still does not talk a lot so I'm sure one day it will come! The only thing I worry about is kids can be very curious sometimes and if you tell them actually how it happens how do you know they won't try anything?! There is another parenting site (I forget which one) and I have seen so many posts with parents that are worried or freaked out because they caught their child doing something inappropriate with another kid. I remember being about 5 and this boy took me out to my backyard and said "I will show you mine if you show me yours" and I said "show you what" and he pointed to my vagina and I literally ran screaming in the house being so freaked out lol. My parents never talked to us about that kind of thing though. Maybe if I tell my son a unicorn farted and mommy caught the baby with her tummy I can keep my baby for a while longer! ??? kidding!

That is so cute that he asked if you ate the baby, I love it

My 8 year old knows how babies are born, knows what is sex, but doesn't know how babies are made. My 3 year old finds my growing belly funny. He notices my belly getting bigger and I tell him it's his baby brother growing inside of me. He only asked once in the beginning how baby got there. He asked if I ate it and I said no and that was the end of that. I try to stay mindful of their age but limit my responses to what they're asking instead of me going off an explaining everything.

If my daughter asked me, I would probably tell her the truth. I feel like the more it's normalized now, the less awkward/embarrassing/taboo it will be later. It's natural and nothing to be uncomfortable about. I'm sure she won't be asking me for a while though, I'm sure it's never crossed her mind (:

Now that I recall my kids haven't asked me that question, they know how they come out but not how they got inside

Yeah my children know where it comes out of, in particular my 7 year old daughter, I don't stress it so much my 5 year old son cause everything about naked and penis and vagina is funny and something he would talk about all day...

Does anyone tell their kids how it got in?

Just say love put the baby there. Hopefully that's enough for him.

Our 2.5 year old hasn't asked how the baby got in there, but she knows where babies come out. We are doing a homebirth and she and I have watched several birth videos together. She will be able to be there for the birth of she wants to be, so I wanted to make sure she was prepared and knew what to expect (: We are very open with her and she knows the correct terminology for the male and female anatomy. I know not everyone does things that way, but that's what works for us
