Genetic testing?

Will you or won't you be doing any genetic testing? I haven't decided. I didn't do any with my son. I was leaning towards doing it with this baby cause I'm 35 and I had a miscarriage in Jan. But- I'm 100% not willing to do an amnio or terminate no matter what. I'm worried that if a false positive pops up then I'll just be super anxious forever. On the plus side it would give us time to prepare or get treatment set up. I don't know what I'm going to do but I was just wondering your thoughts.

I had mine done last Thursday. I am 12 weeks. I didn't with my first and miscarried at 16 weeks from a chromosome abnormality. I will announce my pregnancy once I get the results back.

I'm 25 and have had unexplained loss after loss. I don't know why. I lost one at 20 weeks and the next two at 5 weeks and then 7 weeks. I just want to establish a history at this point and this will be my first genetic test. Hopefully this one will be my winner but no test will make me love baby less or terminate. It will simply make me ready

I'm not doing it I'm okay with either result and I don't want to be stressed my pregnancy thinking there's something wrong.

We will be doing it. More to prepare, than anything else. I've seen too many babies who's chances would've been so much better with that knowledge.

But do what feels right for you and your family.

I'm 34 and suffered a pregnancy loss in December and I am quite anxious this time around. I will be having the NIPT and NT testing done for peace of mind and also to be informed. This baby is loved and longed for and if there were any serious issues that I could be prepared for than I am all for it.

I think im going to do basic testing (bloodwork) but if it come down to amniotic fluid im going to say no. Just to be be aware of chances and to prepare for it.

I'm doing it. I think it's important more so for the kind of prenatal care you would need. And also to prepare for any special and specific medical care a child with any sort of disorder would need after birth.

My brother was born with severe chromosomal abnormalities so my husband and I had testing done last week to look at those specific chromosomes to see if I'm a carrier. Our doc sounded very positive that everything on the ultrasound looked great though so I'm just envisioning a happy healthy baby in there. Prayers would be welcome though! ?

No, I'm not doing it. Didn't with my son either. The results wouldn't change my mind about having the baby. Most serious problems will be seen at the anatomy scan anyway. Also, the tests are really not that accurate. I know several women who got bad results, but their babies were just fine... Not worth the stress IMO.

I'm getting the ultrasound on Wednesday. A family friend had a little girl who ended up with trisomy 18 and didn't know until the end of her pregnancy. So she only got a few hours with her :(

I don't want to be surprised. I want to know so I can better prepare myself before the baby is born. I'm only almost 20 but that's how old the friend was as well.

I just had the 12 week testing done, the only one I'm planning to do.

I chose to do it because I am a planner. I'd rather have the next 6 months to surround myself with people who are raising kids with genetic/chromosomal disorders and do my readings myself so I'm prepared for the first few months and have a support system already in place for all the teaching and learning to come.

Depending on the chances of my baby having a chromosomal disorder will also determine where I deliver. I live 5 minutes from a level 1 hospital but only 35-40 minutes from a level 3. I would feel much more comfortable dealing with any complications that could arise at a level 3 hospital.

This Baby growing inside me is the greatest blessing of my life. No test can change that. No number of chromosomes affects that. No brain function and level of ability will ever alter that. It might make parenting more difficult than planned but that love will never sway!

I personally got it done. I got my results back very fast too . I'm unsure of your hospital , but at mine They just took 5 drops of my blood , and did some different kind of measuring on baby, something about baby's neck fold.

No, I didn't with my other 2 either. If my doctor sees anything that concerns him in my ultrasounds then we would reevaluate doing the tests. I get ultrasounds at every appt so I'm not worried. I'd like to be prepared if anything were to happen but we would never terminate.

I'm having mine done at 12 weeks. I'm 36 and have had 3 miscarriages over the last 3 years. No matter the results, I will not have the amnio and will not terminate. But I had rather prepare for the possibility than be surprised at birth!

I am having testing at my 12 week appointment. I am 35 and risk of abnormalities increase with age and I would also like to be prepared in case everything doesn't come back normal. I do not know how to care for a special needs child so I believe knowledge is power and I would rather go into the birth without any of those surprises.
