Used baby cloths.
Okay so I was in the TTC forum I often go to give advice now that I'm pregnant. Well this lady posted a picture of all the baby cloths she had got for 25cents at a yard sale. Women started bashing her almost immediately because she bought bottles as well , which yes I would not use used bottles but they then started bashing saying if you can't even afford baby cloths & more expensive things why are you even trying to get pregnant?! I found that ridicules! She was just buying cheaper cloths for a baby she hasn't even made. I don't see anything wrong with used clothing as long as it isn't stained up and dirty looking, we have washers and driers for a reason. I was just shocked at how mean they were over something so little. Some people don't like spending 20 dollars on a onesie and some pants(babies-r-us) way over priced. What's your opinions on used clothing?

Buying used has nothing to do with income. We have enough money to buy all my kids' clothes new, but I love to bargain hunt. Consignment sales and stores are my favorites, but I'll go to yard sales in nice neighborhoods, too. Let someone else take the brunt of the retail costs. I'm spoiled by good deals. Now even at Target I'm like "$7 for a onesie?? That's way too much." :-D

Totally agree as long as they are in good condition, they are in them 5 mins. It leaves you more money to spend on other bits you need

Tell her to post here!
Nothing wrong w used items.
Even bottles can be sterilized. I bought so many bottles I used once because my son didn't like the nipple. You can replace parts..
I wasn't ttc but that's nothing to do w saving a buck....
Ppl are so damn judgmental.
That's why I stay here in R n R.. less rude ppl.
I've been here over a year. Just new name.

Would never use used bottles but most of our sons clothes are second hand

Poor lady! I could totally afford brand new clothes for my kids but I love hand me downs and second hand stores! I figure that money is better in my pocket than out of it!
Woman can be so mean :/

That's messed up. I would rather buy yard sale clothes than something that cost a lot of money. At least then when outfits get ruined I can say eh well who cares. My son ruined every outfit I put him in it seemed until about 10 months.
Also just because your ttc does not mean every outfit should be 50$ + . If you can afford that great. Good for you I just hope you know they grow fast and may ruin it.

I have almost all used clothing for my daughter. (My mom is obsessed with goodwill). I also plan to donate it all back after I'm done with it. They grow way too fast to spend out the butt for baby clothes. A few new outfits for pictures and what not. But honestly they are just gonna puke and poop all over it. I don't think when my daughter is grown she is going to hate me for putting her in used clothes!

I love shopping for used clothes! Id rather pay 50 cents for a shirt my boy will wear once than 5 bucks.
I also have 2yr old twin boy cousins.. my kid got all of their used clothes.

Yeah with my first I was younger didn't have a job & still in high school(senior) my grandmother has a daycare and her daycare moms have me tons of cloths! I was so thankful for that and nothing was wrong with any of them , saved me money to buy the thing my LO needed.

I hate how these women bash other women for complete non sense. She could have a couple thousand bucks in her pocket and still shop second hand. So she can buy good expensive items(toys, bed, swings ect) I personally see nothing wrong with her shopping methods and if I were to see the post Id probably not comment bc it's not my place to say anything.

I think that's super rude!
I wouldn't buy anything used for my baby but that's because I'm somewhat spoiled and like new expenses things lol.
I would never judge someone for wanting to save money or people who view buying overpriced baby items as a waste. Everyone is different and we all value things differently. Oh, and also just because someone prefers to buy used does not mean they are poor or can't afford a child. Can anyone REALLY afford a baby?? Lol

I have four women, two sister and two friends that gave me all their baby boy clothes. And I'm glad bc I probably won't have to buy him anything till he's a year old. We bought him a coming home outfit, that's it. That's one less expense I have to make and the money I saved can got to better things like adorable cloth diapers and this diaper bag I'm drooling over on eBay. ??? ain't no shame in my game!

I buy used clothes all the time!! Like pp said they grow out of them so fast. Besides its her child, not theirs. I hate when people can be so mean. Not everyone can afford designer stuff!! Or maybe she just wants save her money... Crazy ladies.

I would buy used bottles. I would just sterilize them. Most of dd's stuff is used. We've saved SO much money going the used route.

Personally I wouldn't use used bottles, that's just me. But used clothes? Psh! My sil and I have a rotation going. Her ds is 6, but on the small side, my ds is 2 and 1/2 and very tall, and her ds is 1. About once a month we exchange boxes of clothes that our sons have out grown. She gives me all of her older ds's clothes he's outgrown, I give her all of my ds's clothes he's outgrown. When her youngest outgrows what I've given her I get it back and when my ds outgrows what she's given me from her older boy, I give it back.
My dh and I are also friends with a couple who has 4yo twin boys. They have 2 of everything, so they usually pass down half to my ds. It just saves money, and really, kids grow so fast usually their clothes are like new.

How mean/:

What?! Those women are ridiculous!

That's pretty uncalled for to say "Why are you trying"... Not everyone likes to spend that much money on something they're gonna out grow pretty quickly. As long as the clothes are in good condition, I see no problem.

Yeah they were ripping this poor woman a new one! It was upsetting basically saying because she is buying used she is not mother material. It was sad.

And of course if she bought nothing but $50 designer outfits from Bloomingdales, she'd be criticized for that, too.

People are rude. I don't go to garage sales bc I hate people but my friend hits garage sales up HARD. kids clothes can be pricey and it adds up when they outgrow a size and you're having to buy a whole new wardrobe. Kids grow out of clothes and shoes so stinkin fast. What's the difference between getting them at a garage sale or getting hand me downs from a friend or relative? I'm sure she washes clothes so I'm not seeing the big to do. Some people are judgemental and some people are snobs.

Most babys never were them long enough... So what dose it matter? I have 3 boys damn right they will ware ham me downs(well ones that are still in good condition) With 5 kids there bellys and health come first before fashion! I love looking for deals and bargins! Gives us more money to focus on school supplies and anything else they may need or want.. Trampolines arnt free my kids love going tothe thrift store and makeing up outfits when we get to its fun theres always a tresure there we have found guess and bench clothing etc... My son at age 6 already knows the value of a dollar! And i must say on that hand i know ive done a good job at teaching my children that the things you ware arnt important its the additued you put with the outfit :)

Well considering she can sterilize and replace the nipples cheaper than buying new bottles I don't see it being that big of a deal.

I think used baby clothes are fine as long as they're in good condition. Babies wear them for what...a few weeks or months? Most of the clothes I have for my kids are new but I don't see an issue. Bottles, though, I would NEVER buy used.
