induced vs natural labour
Hi mums just wondering for mums that have had both natural an a induced labour, was it worse being induced my midwife has said they may induce me this time so they can control my labour, I'm really scared about it i just went naturally with my son but i heard contractions are worse an stronger ect
Depends on how much needs to be done to induce you... first baby I went into labour myself and second baby was induced by breaking waters only (I was already dilated so didn’t need gel, and contractions then started on their own 10 mins after waters were broken so didn’t need the drip at all).
I think if your body is ready and just needs a little push to get started then induction can be great, make sure your foley score is good (I think it’s called that - a measure of how good a candidate you are for induction ie what chance of it working well) before being induced... lots of the bad stories seem to be when someone just wasn’t ready. I was induced at 13 days overdue and 100% sure of my dates and all went well.
I was induced with my first. Contractions were hard and fast and strong. I have anxiety and I didnt cope to well so had an epidural. I laboured for 12 hours, but honestly I think if I had of held out I would have had my baby within the hour that I got the epidural. Instead it was 9 hours later... The epi was great because it wore off by the time I needed to push so could still feel what to do but I think it delayed things.
My second I had no idea I was in established labour. My waters broke in the middle of the night. Contractions were mild and started at 6am. They fizzled out and I had a nap at 12pm. We were trying to organise stuff with the sale of our house so my partner was at the bank at 3pm (that is when the contractions started coming out of no where every 3 mins). He finally came home and we went to the hospital and arrived at 4.10. My son was born at 4.20. My established labour time was 1 hour 20 mins. It was so hard and fast and I wanted an epi but it was too late.
I wouldn't say one was better than the other in terms of pain, but I certainly feel proud of the fact that I laboured at home for most of it. Both babies were born elbow first and I had second degree tears but I definitely felt more comfortable after the second.
My first was an induction after labour failed to progress after my waters broke. It was the worst labour and birth of all my 3. Everything went wrong, I tore internally and required blood, baby was early and rushed to NICU... the contractions were insane and unforgiving. It was by far my worst labour. I developed PND from the trauma.
However my second was meant to be a scheduled c-sec and my waters ruptured before going in so we decided to try naturally with an induction and it was the best possible labour. Was calm, I was focused, the contractions came strong but in waves and I was posting on here during my labour lol! It was by far my best birth experience.
Both times it was with the drip..
My last labour was my “natural” labour and ver very different. It went from not progressing to progressing way to fast and baby born in a matter of 30mins. It was by far my most intense as I had no pain relief, I did not feel as in control as my second induction but it was not a horrific birth like my first. It was my fastest and I felt the best after as I had no stitches as I didn’t tear or need to be cut like I did my other boys.
All my boys were posterior so all back labour’s.
Good luck hun. Hopefully you have a wonderful induction if that’s what you need for you and bubs.
Thanks lady's I had heard it was more intense to be induced thats what scared me, they are wanting to induce me as when I had my son, i don't doilate normally water broke at 1.30am an he was born late in the arvo but when they checked me an hr an half before he was born they said i was only 2cm, an i should go home, as he wont b e here till tomorrow at earliest, i refused an went in the shower an lucky I did as an hr an 20mins later he was born, so my active labour was 1hr 20mins an he came out fast with hands up i tore 3 places an i lost alot of blood, 50ml off a transfusion so they said they will have blood on standby this time an if they induce me they can control it all as they are worried i won't make It to hospital if I go natrual, i can't have codine or morphine as im allergic also epi is out for me as I fractured my spin yrs ago an its right where the needle needs to go its to risky for It an may hit a nerve an end up not being able to walk again, if I do end up needing a csec i need to be knocked out for it which is scary also.
My first was natural. Second was induced. I got to hospital 7 am, had my waters broken. 7.30 drip in. Within 2 minutes of the drip I had very strong intense contractions. I did find them more painful then not being induced. But bub was in my hands within a couple of hours. I also did find that with being induced I was still having contractions like full on contractions up to an hour after delivery to the point the OB made the decision I was not to hold bub anymore as he feared I might drop her during a contraction. They were not sure why I was still having them
I only have my dd..
Was induced but my body didn't want to play the game...
8am ob broken my waters... Only found that to be "OMG it feels like I've wet myself?" moment
9am on the drip.. Body went burko on only a 1/3 of the normal amount n I basically had only like 10seconds between each contraction after 3hrs SO told me to take the gas... Only made me want to nod off in. Those 10seconds between contractions n another 3hrs went by n SO told me to take morphine... That done absolutely nothing... Shortly after that they had to stop the drip to review their plan as I only went from 2 to 3cm in 6hrs..
N so after a bit my ob said my only chance is a epidural n if that didn't work after 1hr I'd be in for csec..
Well after 45mins.. It all began.. Dd was born at 38w2d 7'7 n perfect no need for anything...
Ob n midwife said how my body reacted what the normal for being induced...
I've always said my body hates me...
I was induced with my first. I was already 11 days over and at 3cm so I only had to have the drip. I only laboured for 5 hours. With my second I went natural and laboured for 3 hours. For me the induction was worse because it doesn't allow your body to build up from stage one labour to third it goes straight into the third and final part so you don't get used to the contractions, as much as you can at least, so it was more intense and painful. Also getting your waters broken is quite painful, well it was for me.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
TWW!!

Short Luteal Phase?
I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.
Transgender children
So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are...
Please keep in mind that every labour is different and they can’t predict what will happen. Your labour this time will more than likely be completely different and could be much smoother.
As long as you are aware of the risks and the cascade of intervention that can occur from being induced, then only you can make the right decision for you. You also have every right to refuse what they are offering. What they believe to be best, is not always the case. Dilating quickly isn’t uncommon, so not a good enough reason to induce you. Really they should have realized that your first wasn’t engaged properly after your waters had broken and therefore been better prepared for a malpresentation. Which if this bub is engaged properly before labour begins, your labour will likely be very different anyway.
Good luck with your decision x
