Any ladiess still working???
Okay so I'm 23w6d and still working as a health care aide ☹. I don't know how some women work well into the last month?! I'm starting to waddle, I walk slow and after I eat lunch I got to try to keep my eyes open. When I get home I feel like i'm done for the day, I can't even lift my legs onto the couch. I just want to eat away my cravings then sleep, but I still have to be a mom and housewife till 10pm. I'll be working till the end of January so I see the light at the end of the tunnel, sigh.
I work as an aide in a hospital and we are 1:28 aide to patient ratio. I am 35 1/2weeks now and work 12 hr shifts. Let’s just say that contractions come easily, water is necessary, naps occasionally happen on my break even though no one ever takes a real break, and I get to take the cleaning side over the holding side out of preference so I can limit my lifting to reduce the contractions. And I don’t do 2 assist without a mechanical lift at this point they sure as heck aren’t going to go down on me! I not picking anybody off the floor and I am not catching anyone. I am just glad that we have lots of nurses in the hospital setting so I am allowed to do this. Not to mention they understand the situation more then most being in the healthcare setting themselves. I feel bad because I feel so limited in my position but if I am not strict that is when something happens, like getting stuck in a room with a violent patient between me and the door. Just see if you can work with your other people to be the one least doing the lifting, like opting to do baths if they do something else for you that you are having to do. Or taking the side that has the lesser of the heavy patients. Be on the cleaning side of of bed changes and if you have to boost always raise your bed, of course, and tilt the bed into trendelenberg position to save yourself the extra pull and have gravity assist. Don’t let people bully you into doing something you feel you can’t do and if they do talk to your doctor about getting a note to support you so they can’t say anything about it. Do vitals while they answer call lights, lol, I know most of our aides always hate doing vitals and we have machines that do that for us! That’s my advice at least. I know how hard it is. oh and make sure you are not emptying chemo urine or sitting with violent patients! I know it is hard to avoid those situations and they will tell you that if you double glove and double flush your risk of exposure is nothing but i like to be safe not sorry when it comes to the health of my baby. Let’s just say I refuse to float to the oncology floor because there would be so much I would be unwilling to do. And I have been there and done that with violent patients and I had one I tried to prevent from falling ran in the room to catch him which made him angry. He shoved the table at me, which was at my belly level and he got between me and the door. I had to yell for help hoping someone was nearby to save me. Thank goodness for large male nurses that can get them back to bed. I have been hit, kicked, scratched and even had people try to bite me and I never held it against them because I understand their situation but it is not going to happen while I am pregnant!! Sorry that was a bit of a rant but I have been in a lot of bad situations as an aide and I don’t want to see someone else in those situations. Pregnant or not. I plan on working until the end! I can’t imagine spending less time with my little one so I refuse to stop until I have the baby. It helps me though knowing I am going to deliver where I work so I always know I am where I need to be if something happens. Could you imagine asking your coworker to wheel you down to labor and delivery! Jk my first pregnancy I was still walking when my contractions were less then 2 min apart and I will probably refuse to go in until I am at that point again. No point going any sooner! I would be doing the same thing on my floor at work as I would be in labor and delivery so, I would just be a lot more distracted from that pain running to get water for people! I might be stubborn.
I’m a kindergarten teacher and have worked up until the Friday before my due date with both of my other children. They were due on the following Monday and came the Thursday after. I plan on doing the same thing this time if all goes that way. I’m so much more tired the third time around, but I still find it better to keep moving. Otherwise I just be a lump on the couch.
I worked until the day I went into labor (I was at work at 6am when I went into labor) with my daughter.
How did I do it? I was told by HR that I would be fired if I took maternity leave before I went into labor. I cried every single day 2 hours into my shift because I was in so much pain-my back was killing me.
I’m a kindergarten teacher and plan on working until I deliver. I worked up until delivery at a preschool with my first pregnancy and was finishing my student teaching when I had my second. Both came at 36 weeks. I’m definitely tired when I get home but it’s nice being on winter break currently!
Don’t feel guilty! It’s a balance between having more money and having down time and taking care of yourself. I have a desk job and I am certainly already thinking about cutting back my hours in February. If you can make it work it’s worth making the pregnancy more tolerable and a happier time then draining yourself at work all day.
Oh yes definitely still working! I'm only 25 weeks though. I work in a restaurant and am on my feet running around the entire shift which is usually around 6 or 7 hours. I think being active helps with the aches and pains. Luckily I don't have many. Besides my baby girl sitting super low in the belly and it being a tad uncomfortable, I feel great. Keep active ladies! It really helps even if you just feel like laying down all day haha. I don't plan on taking my maternity leave until around 37 weeks due to our finances.
Yep!! Still working at a kindergarten and when I get home I have a nearly two year old waiting for me (if she didn't come with me that day).
28 weeks this week and I'm planning on working up until the end of February beginning of March or longer if possible.. we really need to money and I know it'll help my partner out alot.
I’m a nurse and I worked the day I went into labor with the last one and plan to do the same with this one..... these bills don’t pay themselves ?.... plus I want to save all my time off for when baby is actually here instead of waiting around for her to come. I’d rather stay busy.
I’m a CNA for our local orthopedic doctor my actual title there is ortho tech and I’ll be working all the way up until I have my baby boy it sucks I didn’t have to work with my daughter but we have no choice we just bought a new house before we found out we were pregnant with our second so I totally feel you on wanting to come home and sleep and eat and you can’t you have to cook and be a mom while you are totally exhausted glad you have a light at the end of the tunnel I won’t until the end of April beginning of May :( hoping this last month goes by quickly for you!
I'm probably going to be working until I pop, water breaks, Dr says stop, or maybe 1 week before due date if possible. Honestly, I'm doing it 90% because we need the extra money I'll get from full checks as opposed to the maternity crap compensation the US provides. Plus, I would go crazy if I'm waiting to go into labor and not working. Did that with my first and it sucked
Definitely still working and I’m high risk. I hope I can work until she’s ready! I get 12
Weeks off and don’t want to take a day off BEFORE she’s ready. . . . Pelvic pressure/pain up The Who haaaaaa but. Want to save all my maternity leave for when she will be here. A lot of people take the week before due date off but. It’s preference.
You ladies are tough holyy, I can't do more than 28 weeks. I'm done for it, too many aches and pains. I live in Canada so our maternity leave seems to be a bit diff. We can get employment insurance maternity benefits up to 15 weeks before baby. Then once baby is here maternity benefits kick in. Koodos to all you hard working ladiess
I worked until 36 weeks with my first doing house to house care, I struggled some days but just spoke to my manager about my workload, what and who I was finding difficult and not comfortable with and reduced my hours so I could be home by 4pm (6.45am start) our maternity leave is a lot longer in the UK and I've fallen pregnant with my 2nd during this time so wont be returning to work anyway but just do what you can, housework etc can be split or it can wait till your day off.. you need to think of yourself more than anything xx
Still working, I am a instructional aide in a handicap classroom k-3 4 days a week those kids ate challenging then home to a 3 yo cook clean shower child to bed get hubby up for work and out the door by 1030 finish up my school work in bed about 12-1 up at 6 am to start the day again. Extremely tired not enough sleep. Dr has me going off work on March 18th I'm due April 15th.
Still working.
I work all day at a standing desk & when I get home im cooking, cleaning and taking care of my kids , 3 and 1.
Its hard and by the end of the day my body is aching but I want to try and make it to 38 weeks at least. The longer I go the more time I get with baby?
I’ll be working until I have this one just like the last , I worked all night when I was in labor with my first lol , couldn’t really have worked out better maximized my time off after baby . I’m a nurse and I work 12 hour night shifts plus I have a three year old , this time around has definitely been harder my pelvis has been hurting since 10 weeks so I am definitely moving slower , working is unfortunately not an option for me as dh stays home with Ds already .
I'm still working. I work in a salon, so I'm basically an independent contractor so when I leave which will possibly be from 2-4 weeks before my due date. I won't be getting any maternity leave so thank god my husband has a good job to support all of us while I'm off for 4-5 months after the baby is born. He wants me to take a whole year off but I said no way, I would go crazy being at home.
Plan on working until at least mid March...due April 4th and would love to work up until april 1st....I work 12 hour shifts at the hospital as a unit clerk and man oh man by the end of the day I'm done, come home to my 2 yr old and for some reason mommy being home means daddy gets to fall asleep on the couch!!
Yes of course I'm still working! Haven't even reached the third trimester yet. The only way to get out of work before 38 weeks is to get a doctor's note saying I can't work and to explain why.
I'm almost 26 weeks and feel great. Yes I'm moving a little slower, but other than that my life is pretty normal. I have a 3 year old at home so I don't really get a break either. I worked until 39 weeks with my first and I'm hoping to make it til then again. I'd rather save my time off for when the baby is here.
With my first I worked full time, with overtime, as a phlebotomist covering a whole hospital (lots of walking), all the way up until the day I was induced...I was 39wks. It’s exhausting, but it was worth it & helped time pass. Thankfully I’m a stay at home mom this time around.
I don't work now but with my secons kid I worked up to 37 weeks I do feel the difference with a boy and girl am 24 weeks pregnant with a girl and feel exhausted and I don't work I just have my 10 year old and my four year old and my husband I honestly think it's just the pregnancies some pregnancies are awesome and some pregnancies are not so good my opinion
Planning on working full time as a medical technician until I deliver. I know it’s tough. I have pelvic and back pain when I walk so I’m a little slow and get shortness of breath which makes it difficult to ask patients questions. Then I get home and have to be mommy as well. I’m just taking it one day at a time. Hubby is very supportive and usually gives me time to rest if I need it.
Im still working, I work full time at a preschool and when I get home I'm a mom of a 14 month old so no stopping here either. I worked tell 35 weeks with my son and I'm planning on working tell 37 weeks with this one. It's hard I'm also slow waddling and have to take lots of sit down breaks.
I worked till 38 weeks with my first and had him on my first day of maternity leave!
I work in an office so my biggest issue is not the physical side but the fact that I'm so tired all the time. This time I'm working up to 37 weeks and going to help out in my 38th week if I'm still feeling good!
