No birthday party
Anyone not doing a birthday party for lo this year? I feel like its kind of pointless for me to do one for my son because all of his cousins live out of town and I don't have any friends with kids. The only other kid he really plays with on a regular basis is my 2 year old sister. But I feel bad because its his first birthday and I want to do something special. Any suggestions?
I think part of the 1st birthday phenomenon is a way for the parents to celebrate making it through the first year! :) Also, 1st birthdays are huge in some cultures, so it has just carried over, I think.
We are doing a party at home, and it will be a lot of people, only because of having a big family... In following years, I won't even invite the family, just a few of my lo's little friends... So, I only go big for the 1st.
I haven't given it much thought either. My parents are far away but retired and love to travel. They plan to come for his birthday as an excuse for a visit. So we will probably just invite friends and family for a small BBQ. If grandparents want to shower him with gifts, I won't stop them!
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who's barely given this a thought! I felt guilty after hearing mamas talk about the "birthday budget" Bc I figured hmmm $1.29 for Betty Crocker cake mix and done! Lol. No disrespect to those going all out, but we will prob have the grandparents over for cake and that's it.
We're doing a small party that we can fit in our budget, we figured since our next baby is due in May this will kinda be the last time she'll be living the only child life, all her other birthdays will most likely be a joint party with her little sister! We won't be getting anything for her though, her present from us is her party, she got SO much for Christmas and I'm sure she'll have plenty from family and friends!
I've never heard of a smash cake, I might do that! Good to know I'm not the only one not doing a party. I am planning on getting a few toys and his first tennis shoes!
I know it's sad but I don't see los bday as a big deal for him but its a huge deal for me! The day he was born was so life changing and totally changed my role in life. Really it's just going to be another day for him. We are going to have a small party for him the next weekend. But his birthday hubby, lo and I are going out to celebrate the people we have become :) Also as theo gets bigger I am going to train him to get me a gift on his birthday. I do it for my mom and she loves it!!
I posted earlier asking about parties as people seemed to really going to town with big themes parties with lots of guests. We have a big family so will just do something small at home with them. Friends have done the same for their lo too. I'd rather spend the money on gifts for him or put it in his savings account. I love hearing about people's plans tho and seeing invites etc...
I honestly haven't even thought about a party until I saw a post of people planning a party and spending $1000's!!! I feel just a tad bit guilty, but we are new to the area and our family is spread out across the US...so likely we'll have some cupcakes and sing. Simple and sweet! ;)
We are doing anything. All family is out if state... We have a play group we go to weekly but to be honest, we just don't have the money to get them all party favors, cake, snacks, and drinks. We are thinking a park day with hubby and I, then a cupcake for him to smash up that I can get pictures of :) can't afford a professional photographer. They won't remember anyway.

Transgender children
So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are...
I don't believe in first birthday parties for babies my opinion is its dumb and unnecessary
Hi Moms ! I’m having some trouble figuring out a birthday theme for my soon to be 3 year old 🤔 Any cute girl party theme idea ??
He's in jail
It's been almost 2 years since I've received any sort of communication with my son, that I gave up for adoptions parents. Yesterday was my birthday and guess what I woke up to this morning? An email from his parents. I was so excited until I opened the email to find out that they are writing to let me know he's been sentenced to a juvenile detention center. Why you may ask? Armed robbery. Clearly they are doing a stellar job raising my kid ????
I'm not doing anything big for my daughter's 1st bday mainly cuz i live miles and miles away from family and friends on an army base and i dont have friends out here and plus i'll have a new addition by then (due in 3 weeks) but i do want to have a cake for her and dress her up nice.
