Another post and comments indicating that it might be a good idea to express your feelings and state of mind to a dr and maybe get some medication to possibly help with how negative you feel quite often.

@avianlouiebos, by your line of reasoning, do you ever do anything fun with your child, or do you not bother because he won't remember it? Whether he specifically remembers that moment or not doesn't mean that the moments don't still shape him as he grows up.

@courtneyxa, but you will be showing acknowledgement for your baby birthday makes it different. This girl said it’s just another day and won’t have any party unless it is asked for. Big difference.

Wtf lol all these replies. I kind of agree with @avianlouiebos I mean how many of you have your parents show you your first birthday? My husband was giving me crass about not having mom friends to invite with kids her age and I got mad lol like do you remember your first birthday? Didn't think so lol like a small celebration( literally just me and him) is good and some pics like even my mom didn't keep/ take pictures of our birthdays until 4 years old lol do I care? No I just look and think that's cute. And she wasn't a terrible mother. I love her a lot :) and feeding cake to a baby just for pictures? No way 😬

@avianlouiebos, realize this isn’t just about you and what you want. You have a son now, him and his happiness come first. Please take care of yourself.

I loved being able to look back at my first birthday pictures when I was growing up. It definitely doesn't have to be a huge production, but it's fun to do something special and celebrate your child. My son who is 4.5 legit recalls details of big things that happened right around the time he turned 1. What may not seem as important to you could really have an impact on him.

I dont agree. This is their first year of life and its over. Its to celebrate how much they have grown and what they have learned during that year. Its also to celebrate the parents and what hard work they needed to put in to get to that point. It doesnt need to be a huge event, but that child should be celebrated. My sons 1st birthday is in two weeks and I cannot wait to throw him such an important party with many people who love him.

@avianlouiebos, you can’t speak for him as an adult. I wish I had pictures of my birthdays. This is so weird. Suck it up and get your kid a damn cake. Who cares if he doesn’t remember? Your celebrating his first year of life, what’s not exciting about that?

@avianlouiebos this thought process seems pretty messed up and makes me wonder if you’re feeling this way because you’ve had such a difficult time raising him thus far. All of his birthdays are important even if you don’t think they are or don’t think he will care. Memories are always wonderful to have as we get older.

@csavage no reason he needs to look back on his first birthday hes gonna have tons of other memories and birthdays he actually remembers, pretty sure hes not gonna care as an adult about something he has no memory of

@avianlouiebos, it's only the same as every other day to him if you make it the same.

You could still do things to celebrate without it being a huge production, and he'd have a lot of fun. For DD's second birthday we went to the children's museum, ate cake, played outside all day, and sang "Happy Birthday" a lot.

You don’t have to throw a huge birthday party. I took my kid to the park, baked her a smash cake, and then she got to open presents. It was fun for us as parents, and she loved getting new toys and having extra attention on her. Why deprive your kid of that just because they can’t grasp the concept of birthdays yet? They still have the ability to have fun

Whether your son will realize it’s his birthday or not, why wouldn’t you want to celebrate it? Something for him to look back on when he’s older

@avianlouiebos not a piece of cake, not a present, no photos, nothing? Dang.

@avianlouiebos, I just think that’s incredibly sad. Especially if a child has to ask for a party and you won’t even acknowledge it. Feel sorry for your kiddos. Every year of life should be celebrated (big or small) as we are not promised one each year. 🤷🏻‍♀️ but thats just my opinion.

@haslberry fair enough its just like i saw a video from my coworkers sons party and they all called her son like 5 times to come get cake and tried showing him the cake etc and hes totally not listening and busy playing with toys like clearly he doesnt want cake and has no clue what it is so yea it just seems dumb to me like dont force it on ur child if theyre not interested

You might not feel the same way in six months. While it is a bit true that first birthday celebrations are more for us as parents, one is a big milestone and having those memories is priceless! My daughter had a blast at her party being showered with the love of our family and a couple of our friends.

@avianlouiebos, I respectfully disagree. I consider one a milestone birthday. It most certainly was not about me in the slightest, and my daughter had a blast. It was a way for extended family to be a part of the celebration and see her personality shine, so if anything it was more for them.

The next birthday party won't be until she asks for it, and even then it could just be a handful of her friends going somewhere fun. I don't have the energy, budget, or patience to throw a party every year for each kid. It's draining.

I get what you're saying. I used to say that too before I had my son and went through that traumatic experience almost dying and losing him. So now I'm planning a big old bash for him lol

@masseymomma16 but when the child has no clue what a birthday party is its stupid because its more about you than the kid
