I would love extra help but I do everything as well as a 42 hour working week.

We ended up gravelling the front garden because he hated mowing so much, and the less said about the back (which is paved) the better.

He'll sometimes do the dishes when I'm at work but I do all the cooking and most of the dishes.

Not because he thinks it's a woman's job, just cos he's a lazy sod outside of work and I've spoilt him by just doing it. I know he works hard but that makes 2 of us!

I'm probably more old fashioned than id like to think. My husband does most of the DIY and he does the gardening and I tend to do the cooking and cleaning. However he will help out and do the dishes if I've cooked (well load the dishwasher!) and I will pick up a paintbrush :) for us it is probably a case of physical strength as much as anything! I have the upper body strength of a gnat! Whereas he's ex navy and pretty stocky. Though ironing is definitely his job! I'm never living up to those navy standards.

I'm a traditional I'm afraid. I'm a SAHM and my husband works very long hours so I think it's my job to have tea cooked on table when he walks in, a clean house and garden and clean children to great him. I'm very set in my ways and to me this is how it should be and works really well for us. I think it's cos I was bought up by my nan tho which is what I was bought up around. If I worked I would expect it to be a different story and for him to do his fair share of the work so I think your hubby should be helping you and not playing golf etc xx

We are a very traditional household, he works 70 plus hours a week and I do all the chores, a couple of times a month he will cook, I hate that he doesn't empty the bin but the rest I'm kind of used to!

My husband will happily do all the chores I do except laundry & ironing and I wont do the bins thats his job.! Bit other wise we are equal x

Before my oh found his job (thank god) we shared everything, had our set days to cook like if he did monday id do tuesday. All the housework was shared. Hes brilliant tho if something needs to be done he wont wait for me he will do it himself. The same with looking after the kids he does as much as me. But now he works i do most of it, everythings done for when he gets home i normally have dinner on but if i havent its no problem. I cant complain hes great bless him, although i am cruel and make him strip off at the front door jus so he dont get my carpets filthy lol

We both work full time but my hubby is a teacher & has to work most evenings, so I do most of the housework, washing & weeknight baths etc to balance it out for him. He does most of the gardening but like laurabos said, it's more to do with his strength! He also does his own ironing...

I do sometimes feel a bit resentful because I do all the cleaning & being nearly 8 months pregnant with a toddler & a stressful job means I'm quite tired!! But I know it's not resentment at him, just the situation. Now it's school hols I'm expecting him to do more, especially to give me a break, but when I start mat leave again soon I think we'll share it out till he goes back to work.

We're quite traditional, my partner is a plasterer and is out the door before half 5 and home by 5 on a usual day. He has a very physical job and usually skips his lunch to work. I wouldn't expect him to come home and cook or clean. On the weekends he is plays golf or snooker, He never goes out drinking or to the pub or away on weekends so I don't mind at all. He takes our little boy to give me a break even if it's for an hour and will bath and dress him happily and is always playing or cuddling with him. A couple of times he will cook during the month, especially Jamaican food so it's a nice treat and he always makes me a cup of tea! He buys nappies, wipes, clothes and toys and will go to the shop or supermarket to pick up bits we need. DIY he's more than happy to do, he always takes the rubbish out, only hate is I wish he would clean the toilet!! If he wasn't to work or I did if expect a 50/50 compromise on all fronts but really happy with our routine :)

pick me up and plonk me down in the middle of stepford and I'd be well away lol. I'm currently prepping lasagne for tea and baking cookies, 3rd lot of laundry is on and ive deep cleaned the kitchen and dining room so far, the living room is next.

OH is not under any circumstances allowed to touch the iron, he fails epically at it, irons more creases in than out lol. I don't mind him helping here and there but I do prefer to do it all myself. car, garden, diy and bins are his jobs lol.

I'm a sahm and do everything except lawn and bins, anything heavy or dirty he can do! X

I'm a sahm and I bloody expect my OH to do his fair share!i make him do the housework with me!i cook and do washing etc so he will do bins!and anything I ask him yeah he works but it's not easy being a sahm I see the joy in his eyes sometimes when he gets to leave to go to work if our lg is being naughty..I have my daughter 24/7 and it's tough work making her happy and doing everything else the only reason I do most stuff is cos I know it will get done properly x

I think the chores should be shared equally. But when it comes to things like building furniture, mowing the lawn I think that he should do it & tbh he likes to do it, I think it makes him feel masculine lol X

60/40 in our house too. Maybe 70/30 ?

We both cook, if he cooks I wash up, and if I cook he washes up. I do all the laundry and cleaning. He puts his stuff in the wash bin which is good :')

He mowes the lawns and cleans the car and stuff which in my opinion is a mans job!

We're both hands on with our children, if baby needs feeding or changing he'll just do it I don't have to ask. BUT. He never gets up with the kids, it's always me.

May I add we both work. Me 24 hours and him 40.

Why don't you think that women should join the police army etc pp? I'm not bashing your views just curious

My partner works two jobs that adds to over 70 odd hours. So I'm here all myself all the time. I do see it that i should do the house work washing cooking etc. dont get me wrong there are nights when he's off and does the odd cooking but trying to get him to do any household chores is like trying to get blood from a stone. Even the bins that was one jobs he was assigned as i dont wanna run up and down a flat with a baby and he did do it to start but now he just walks past the bin bag and does to work ? i go back to work and will expect him to have the house tidied and washing done dried and folded and dinner ready xxxxx

I do all the washing, folding putting away ect. All the cooking or 99% of it anyway. 90% of the child care (getting up, baths, changing bums ect) almost 28 weeks pregnant with a 2 year old too. I also do all the proper cleaning like scrubbing hoovering ect and properly gutting things. My partner does 90% of the washing up and tidys all the time (but I like it done properly can't just do half an hour take half the day to do 1 room properly) if I ever need him to do anything with our son ect then all I do is ask he doesn't expect me to do everything I think its just a habit we've got into we are a bit traditional but I would never do 100% of everything and he wouldn't expect me too. It's the 21st century and cooking, cleaning, being pregnant (I have difficulties carrying with my hips ect) and looking after a 2 year old all day every day isn't easy. I do the bins aswell as him I draw the line at dealing with bugs haha that's about it I really don't mind aslong as we both help out sometimes I'd love him to just do the cooking tho! Drives me mad after a long day il get our son to bed and hear 'I'm hungry' from a 28 year old man! Oh I also do most of the shopping as get about 3/4 times more than he does when he goes by spending the same amount of money. Send him to the shop to get food with £20 he comes home with 1 meal. Steak!! Yeah because that's just what we need lol xx

I think equality applies when we talk about intelligence and psychological abilities - for instance women are just as intelligent as men and are just as capable of leading, reasoning etc. Its great to see women in politics for example. Women make great leaders. Female doctors, teachers, solicitors etc etc are just as capable as men and their abilities should not be judged according to their gender. But I do agree with Sadie - when it comes to physical abilities men should be used before women to pull someone out of a building, as Sadie mentioned or to restrain someone as for example a policewomen holding someone under arrest. It's what you would feel comfortable with.. If you needed a policeman quickly because you saw a robber going into a store with a gun and you saw a policeman on one side of the road and a policewoman on the other side of the road I know who I'd approach. It's wrong but I don't think gender equality should apply to everything :-/

Agreed, I also wonder if we did go to war how many women (without children of course) that want total gender equality will offer their services to the Army? If they were able to go - if they were fit and healthy - how many would actually go?

I love that women are now I high powered jobs, I agree that physically some women are not capable of some jobs some men can do. However there is a place in the fire service for women as it's not all about dragging men out of buildings, there role could be just as integral, say extinguishing a fire ect. Police women are needed as men are heavy handed and as a women I would rather be restrained, searched ect by a female officer, they can also be alot more sympathetic, police officers deal with so many things, domestic violence, rape, abuse ect women are more approachable for these matters then men and these cases are probably more frequent then having to wrestle with a bloke. I reckon paramedics have to do a lot more heavy lifting ect on a day to day basis. As for the the army I know my opinion will be controversial but I wouldn't allow either my son or daughter to go into that profession, they are pawns risking there lives in a rich mans world fighting a 'war' with what gain for society. If we were concerned about the welfare of other countries then we would be fighting a 'war' in Africa/ South America ect but it does come down to oil, power and what can be gained for western society .... I respect the bravery of people in the army however I don't agree with the morals, ethics behind it.

my hubby is in the army and you'd be surprised how often the girls can outpace and out perform the guys. we're lighter in most cases so our bodies don't need to work as hard to pull ourselves over a high wall etc. (obviously they need to be physically fit because believe you me ive tried on his full kit and I don't know how anyone can run in that stuff O.o it would kill me, and I could pass the entry requirements for fitness not too long ago.) but the same level of fitness coupled with a smaller lighter body is going to get you across the ground faster than a big beefy guy.

and it doesn't half wind them up something rotten :p haha

Jada - I agree with you, especially in those instances. I guess if women or men are selected for certain jobs then wouldn't it be great if no one got offended over it as women and men do have their special qualities and we are different.

I guess we're quite unusual as a couple and I'm aware that I'm incredibly lucky... My husband does all the cleaning apart from the kitchen and bathroom, they're my responsibility. I do all the cooking so he does the washing up. And he does everything in the garden too. He cleans out and feeds our birds and does all the DIY, even though I enjoy helping. We share the clothes laundry and generally washing the cars is a team effort - I wash, he leathers!

He won't let me do any of his jobs, even when I'm on school holidays (I'm a teacher) and he's still at work full time. I'm very lucky!

Oh but if there is any furniture to be built that's my job, I absolutely love it! :)

Me and my partner r totally equal, we share the responsibility of our children and the jobs in our home. Some days ul find me doin the gardening, diy etc and my oh putting the kids to bed.

In regards to certain sexes doin certain jobs I really don't agree with. I'm a mental health nurse so have Been required to restrain grown men/women. There was an incident where the attack alarms went off in the middle of the night and the male on shift actually ran in the opposite direction!! Another time I was undertaking the restraint course and I was able to take a rugby player down (staff member obviously) so I don't think size matters in most cases given the right training. X

Defo not traditional he dose most things he also dose work when ever he can.

But I do a lot aswell I'm the one who's good with money and gets all the things we need, pay bills ect , he cooks and is amazing with the kids. He also cleans that 50/50 in our house.

But I want to work and so dose he so it will be still 50/50 ?
