induction???

So they want to talk about induction at my next appointment. I'll be 40w2d. So I'm not early. What are some of your experiences with induction. How do they do it? Will it raise my chances if having to have a c-section. I don't want a c-section. If anyone can give me some info or advice. That would be great.

I was supposed to be induced on the 9th of July but started with contractions the night before. Got to the hospital at 5 am, with contractions 4 minutes apart. When I reached 6 cm my water was broken and reached 10cm quickly. Did 40 minutes of pushing and my beautiful baby was born. So no I don't think every induction ends up in c section, depends on the circumstances. I was also given oxitocin for contractions. Was 40 weeks + 6 days

@SophiaGamache: Best of luck to you during the end of your pregnancy. The end is near, and soon you'll be holding your baby. Greatest feeling ever!

I have to be induced on Tuesday at 37 weeks due to cholestasis and in wondering the same thing. I've heard a lot of scary stories

Thanks. And I'm hoping I go into labor before they start talking about induction. But my appointment is on Wednesday next week and they are saying they want to start talking about induction then. I want to go into labor myself. I do not want a c-section at all. And I don't want to do anything to harm my baby. I've heard inducing can stress out the baby. So that's why I'm asking about induction.

I would avoid if possible.

Mine was unpleasant and ended in a c-section.

Well i was induced on the 22nd. It ended in csection so i dont know what to tell you there. But honestly being induced with pitocin wasnt bad at all. I progressed really really fast came in at 7 was having full on contractions 2 hours later dialateted to a 6 then a couple hours later an 8 and they broke my water then a bit later a 10 it was almost time to push but baby went into distress and had to have an emergancy c section. Baby was at a bad angle. He was born at 4:22 The c section sucked but the being induced part was actually great too ad things didnt go as planned. I hope everything goes well for you

I'm not going to sugarcoat this so please skip my comment if you're feeling sensitive.

I went in at 40+12. The latest they'd advised me go in the UK. I wish I'd ignored them! It was a back labour as it turns out my cervix is slightly tilted. I've never known pain like it and I'm not generally a wuss! Wasn't allowed an epidural due to a blood clotting disorder and all the other drugs made me sick and didn't do anything! I ended up with an emergency c section 2 days in as was only 4cm dilated. They had to resuscitate my baby whilst I was unconscious, thankfully she is fine. But we had to stay in for 10 days as they struggled to break my waters and she contracted an infection from it. They attempted a lumbar puncture on her at 2 days old to check it wasn't meningitis. It was absolutely horrendous. She then had cannulas forced into her tiny hands and feet for a course of antibiotics. She pulled them out I don't know how many times. Not how I wanted motherhood to begin and as a FTM I was in the verge of losing my mind being kept in. I'd advise anyone to think long and hard about interventions as once you start that ball rolling, there's no stopping it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Bear in mind too that other countries have different times they consider full term- many consider 41& 42 weeks term so would not induce until later. Worth a Google maybe?

I went into labor naturally, but when I quit progressing they put me on Pitocin. It wasn't bad for me at all. I had an epidural too. Everything was smooth.

I was induced with both my boys.

1st at 37 weeks - labored for 25 hours (because my body wasn't anywhere close to ready & being at a medical school type hospital, they used me as a guinea pig for teaching students certain things that I later found out were unnecessary for me & prolonged birth)

2nd at 40 weeks 3 days - went in at 7, started my drip by 8 & baby was born before noon.

Currently 34 weeks 5 days pregnant with my 3rd & I've already had to go in for contractions to be stopped. I was hoping for an induction with her as well because I have severe anxiety & also a phobia of going into labor on my own (hospital is SO far away) & i hate being "unprepared" & things not being "planned" to a T, but I'm guessing she'll be here any time....praying she holds out until after the shower on Saturday lol.

Good luck hun and wishing you a safe and happy delivery.

I was induced 4 times and they all went great. The only problem I had was with my 3rd dd but that's because she came out facing up and my epidural wasn't placed correctly (the catheter was all balled up when the nurse took it out. We have no clue how the anesthesiologist didn't realize it). Other than that, no problems.

I heard pitocin isn't bad if your body is ready to go into labor. But I'd avoid induction because if your body isn't ready it can cause complications. Plus you technically have two more weeks before you should worry. Pregnancy is hard to predict actual conception dates and if you ovulated late, you could be two weeks behind. And the first is always stubborn

Have you tried a membrane sweep? This got me to go into labor on my own with my 3rd. I would have asked for it before induction with my first two if I had known about it.

I would avoid induction and instead opt for NSTs (non stress tests) and ultrasounds. As long as there is no medical reason to induce, it's better to wait.

I was induced and at one point the recommended a c-section because I still wasn't dilating and the baby's heart rate was dropping with contractions. I chose to wait it out for 2 hours and went from a 5 to a 10 and was able to have him naturally. Other then that I had a good experience with being induced. The foley catheter for dilation is another story, horrible!

In my group of women we have had four spontaneous labors, and twelve inductions after fourth weeks. Two of the spontaneous labors ended in c section, one all natural, and one needed pit to progress. Of the inductions there was a high rate of epidurals, but no c sections.

I really wonder how accurate the statistics we have are.

It really depends on how ready your body is to give birth. My induction went great but my body was more than ready (dilated, effaced, contracting, head down low). I had an easy 7 hour labor. They broke my water and put me on pitocin for maybe an hour or two to strengthen contractions and cut it off once my body was doing the work on its own.

But, induction can look many ways. If your body and baby aren't ready then your labor and delivery will probably be much more difficult.

I would ask if there is anyway you could maybe put it off if induction is not something you want, especially if baby is okay.

My friends doc was four to induce her the day after her due date but she asked to hold off and she ended up going into labor on her own a few days later :)

I was induced with both of my first two. They were both great experiences with no complications. I would be interested to see statistics on how many inductions end in csection after 40 weeks.

I had to be induced two days before my due date because my water broke but hours later I wasn't dilating or progressing at all. I really didn't want to be induced, but it wasn't as bad I thought. They started Pitocin around 2:30-3am Thursday morning and I had my daughter at 1:34 in the afternoon. It was my first baby so I can't say if it affected my labor experience significantly, but it wasn't bad for me.

I was induced at 41+2.

My son was really big, he just didn't want to come. He never engaged so I didn't really dilate. Ended in a c-section.

i did :( but baby was never coming out, never was engaged, cervix never softened, pitocin slowed her heartbeat wayyyyyy down, so ended w/a c-section, but they aren't all bad.

My mom was induced with both me and my brother. She was 38 weeks with my brother because her water broke but contractions wouldn't start on there own. She was induced with me the day before or on my due date. She went natural. I don't have personal experience but my dd came on her own at 40+2.

I was induced.

And it was not bad at all.

I went in at 6 am got pitocin started slowly, got my epidural around 4 when i was dialated at a 6 ,started pushing at around 5:30 pm and had him at 6:07 pm.

It was not a bad experience for me and i wouldn't mind it again, and i had him vaginally.

I had an induction. I was 41w3d. Went in at 8. Doctor kept saying I wasn't going to have him until the next morning. I was given pitocin. Around 4 or 5 they broke my water and I had my son at 7:19pm that same day. I didn't think it was that bad. I wish they would have just broken my water before the pitocin because I had my first naturally and painless and I wanted that with my second.

I didn't have to be induced so I don't have a personal experience to share, but I did read a long time ago all the negatives about pitocin. I personally would avoid it if possible.

I read it on here. I can bump the post if you'd like.
