Feeling like a bad mom!
I have to supplement with formula cuz I'm not producing enough breast milk anymore. My son has been congested for about a month and that's when I noticed a change in him wanting to nurse. He got diagnosed with bronchitis about a week ago and after going to a lactation consalten we realized that's why he won't nurse and he has a tongue tie. I have been pumping like crazy but still isn't enough and his pediatrician is worried about him loosing weight! He will be 3 months old next Friday so I guess at least I made it 3 months.

Breast milk is not what defines a good mother. Ive had to supplement as well and soon to give up pumping. My 3 oz a day is only one bottle for her and not worth the time, depression and stress. I gave it my all and still can't produce. I have felt guilty about it though. But we have to do what's best for our babies. That's what a good mother is about.

Breastfeeding is such an emotional thing, no one understands unless they are going through it too. Your baby's needs will be met and you are doing what is best. We feel guilty even though we rationally know as long as baby is fed that's the most important thing... just keep reminding yourself of all the other things you are doing for your child.

I stopped having enough breastmilk at 3 weeks and have been supplementing up to 12oz a day in formula. I make only 20oz of breastmilk on a good day (I EP because of the low supply). You are not a bad mom, you sound like an excellent mom ☺️ We put ourselves through the ringer to provide what's best for our kids.

You are not a bad mom! Feeding your baby is what is important. I give my baby formula during the day and nurse at night mostly by choice. We do what we can and what works for our family and that's okay!

Thank you everyone that makes me feel a lot better!

Have you had his tongue tie clipped? When my daughters tongue tie was clipped, my milk production increased over night.

Feeding your baby with the formula doesn't make you a bad mother. I just don't understand why the first time moms make such a big deal of it ,there is a whole generation that grew up on a formula. Do what is best for you and your baby.

@jamison I have talked to the pediatrician about it and she hasn't given me a refural yet, but yes that is something we have talked about

You dear sweet momma. This happened which my first and I totally understand how you feel. She was tongue tied and we did t realize it was affecting her growth and eating til it was too late. It sucks I know but one thing that made me feel a little better was that I continued to nurse her until 7 months all the while supplementing with formula. It was a lot of work but I just could accept that it was over. Not that you have to do that at all. If you feel like it's time then that is your call momma. The thing that makes you amazing is that you want the best for your baby and that's what he/she will see as they grow older.

@carlean thank you! Yes unfortunately that happened with my son. He still latches but pulls away after like 2 mins screaming so it was putting him in distress so the lactation consalten recommended just pumping until we can see about getting him clipped but not sure when that will happen and I go back to work in a week and a half so they told me to supplement with formula.

Dont worry, they dont ask our kids if they were breastfed on their college application. ? i still havent met an adult that has asked me if I was formula fed or not. happy mom happy baby. Keep him fed, give him lots of love and thats all that matters.

Fed is best
I know everyone says breast is best, but each mom has to do what is best for their baby.
You're a wonderful mom just for doing what is best for your baby instead of worrying about a social stigma.

I have had to supplement with formula since we got discharged from the hospital. I have to exclusively pump since baby refuses to latch. Im not a big producer to begin with so I give him what I could and if hes still hungry then formula it is. I figured something is better then nothing. Fed is best. You're not a bad mom for wanting to feed your baby. Gotta do what you gotta do!
