In home daycare prices

Hey Ladies! I'm starting my own in home daycare within the next few months. I will be licensed and have all the required certifications as well as a bachelors degree in physical education for k-12grades. I'm trying to figure out how much to charge per hour. What do you pay for in home daycare? Do you pay per hour or per week? I'm located in the Chicago suburbs. Any suggestions or advice would also be greatly appreciated!!

My mil has a daycare. She's located in southern ca. She charges 185 a week for an infant and 165 a week for ages 2 & up. I think she could get away with more for the work she does but those are her prices :) she has a maximum of 14 avail spots.

When my son was in daycare (SAHM now) we paid 135 a week and we live in ND. But we also had the cheapest in the area that was licensed that we found. Most charged 160 or so a week.

Thanks ladies! I'm going to check craigslist and other daycares out there as well! I just need to be able to make an income but I also don't want to be overpriced!

Definitely check out Craigslist for an idea. You can call your licensing department and get a listing of local licensed daycares (the listing will show rates and capacity).

It really depends where you're located, what you offer, and what hours your open. Average where I'm at is about $200-$300/week. You see ads for $180 for in home daycares that are not yet established. An established one will charge around the $300/week.

Good luck!

I live in WA and pay $50/full day and $25/half day for daycare, food included. Infants must be provided with BM or formula, then eat with big kids as they get older. We provide diapers and wipes til potty trained. We pay for our days, used or not, including holidays.

Full time daycare for infants in my daycare center is like 1400-1500 a month. That is near lisle. I would say infants and toddlers... you could do $175-$225 to be more competitive with day care centers. I would say for 2+... $150-$175.

I would most likely go on the low end until you get your name out there. I would also make sure you have a contract and rules (late pickup charges).

I work in an in home daycare in Florida, we do not do by the hour for any age.

We start at $130 a week for an infant that is Mon-Fri 7am to 6:30pm. The lowest we offer is 2-3 days a week for $90, same hours (7am-6:30pm).

We do offer different rates for older children and extended hours (nights & weekends) for an additional charge.

The daycare ds went to last year was $665/month per child. For the classes under the age of 2 you do not have part time pay options. You pay full time no matter what.

That's partly why I'm staying home with him and dd (5 weeks). I'd be working just to pay daycare

I'm also in the Chicago suburbs. My son is 9 but he was in daycare full time til he went to kindergarten. The cheapest GOOD licensed home daycare I had him in was $200/week. And this was in 2007! Your best bet is to look at Craigslist ads and also post on local FB garage sale pages saying you are looking for licensed home daycares. Maybe even visit a few in your area to get a feel of the quality behind the price so you know you are priced accordingly.

It will also depend on what suburb you are in.

You also need to consider what you are going to offer as far as a curriculum goes. I would say somewhere between $150-200 a week for full time and discounted for part time.

The one I was assistant director for in va we charged $150/week FT with a 10% sibling discount.

FYI: Most daycares don't charge by the hour for full time students. If you are considering accepting hourly drops offs ( not to exceed 20 hours a week) the fee here is 5 an hour. If you are charging 15 an hour for 5 days a week 10 hours a day that's over 700 a week lol

I'm only planning on bringing in 3 or 4 kids full time. I will also have my 2 boys.

My son is at an in home daycare and I pay $200/week. His hours are 7am-4:30pm, but I could keep him there until 7pm for the same rate (their hours are 7-7). 2 meals and snacks are provided. I only bring diapers and wipes.

The larger your daycare, the lower prices you should have. Depending on the ages of children, a small family daycare (with only one provider, 8 I believe if you had an assistant) is 6 kids (if you don't have more then 2 infants). At $200/week, that's $1200/week, $4,800/month. That's twice as much as I make at my full time welding job!

This breaks down to $40/day, which may not seem a lot per child, but adds up the more children you have. She does part time/drop ins at $45/day (so you get a "discount" for going full time.

I would look on craigslist for your area and see what the going rate is. I would start a little lower to attract new parents since you are just opening (my sons last daycare was brand new and I paid $150/week and so bummed I had to move).

I would ask 175-200 for the week! It's really not worth it if you're only watching one. What is maximum occupancy?

I've been researching my area and prices are literally all over the bored. Many women are charging $10-15 per hour.

Well, not sure about prices in your area, but I feel comfortable paying the $200 per week for those hours. Might be a bit more expensive here in san diego so not sure if that's normal for Chicago. You should look up daycare around you and see what they charge

I did in home daycare. I just recently closed for personal reasons. The fee for infants and pretoddlers was 175 a week and over 2 was 150 a week. I participated in the usda food program and I was reimbursed food cost at the end of each month. It takes a lot of work!! I have friends that have done for over 5 years and love it ! Feel free to pm if you have any questions ! Good luck. Btw the fee was subsided by the gov. So the parent fee was different. The parents would pay based on their income then I filled out paperwork and received the rest in a check at the end of the month. I would personally charge more then 175 for the amount of work you will be doing!

Let's say I watch one kid for 10 hours a day, five days a week. What should my rate be?

I'm in california and pay $200 wk for daycare. And that is really affordable here. While looking at our options most daycare were $300-$400 per week but those were at a facility. The daycare we chose is out of her home and i absolutely love it! Cheaper and much better in my experience

Most here (Southern California) that I've seen charge per week. They even charge for the weeks you go on vacation and don't use their services, because you are essentially holding a spot, since their license limits the number of children they can watch.

The rates here I've seen range from $125-$250 a week. Younger children (infants and toddlers) are usually more expensive than 3-5 year olds. They usually have a discount (like 20%) for siblings.

There are some "green day care homes" here that are even more expensive. They are the type with organic food only, no TV, cloth diaper friendly, babywearing, with crafts, play and organic gardening activities, etc.

Based on your credentials and location, I would charge $500.00 a month.

I don't have any personal experience with daycares. But I know my parents paid $60 a week for 10 hours of after school care for my sister. The lady who watched her didn't have any special certificates.

So bumping for you.
