Tested positive for group b strep
I tested positive for group b strep...and now I'm freaking out. Anyone else test positive?
My dr said now it changed. They used to treat with every pregnancy after u were pos. But I guess they now test every time. I hope I can convince them to give the meds just in case. Not gonna hurt her to have them. There gonna hurt her if she doesn't get them and I do have it at the time of labor
Thanks for the responses! I feel a little better!!
The antibiotics are only for the baby so there is no point to give it to you before delivery since it mainly causes issue from baby coming out of your vagina and being "contaminated" with group b at that point. Just make sure when u Get to L&D u tell them ur positive and thy will get the antibiotics going. It's really no big deal. Try not to stress momma. Very common in labor and we treat with antibiotics and all works out.
I was tested at 32 weeks at hospital negative but my dr was going to do it at my 36 week last week. When I told him I had it the first time he didnt know my first son got it coming out as soon as I said that, he didn't even test again. He said it didnt matter what the test said since first son got it they automatically need to treat. They have to do it during delivery. I think its because of how it effects baby as they come out.
Strep b is a hit a miss. One day u might have it one day not. Its kinda scary. I had with my first but negative this time. I m still asking for meds since it comes and goes. My dr tells me not to worry about it. But I know what I have read up on. And I don't wanna take the chance with my babies health. That's why they don't treat before is cause it can come back
My doctor said they don't give antibiotics before labor because the Group B Strep can just come back. He said they could test for it early in pregnancy, treat you for it, and then test you again later in your pregnancy and you could have it all over again. He said getting the antibiotics during labor is the best way to not pass it to the baby.
I haven't gotten to talk to my doctor yet, do you know why they don't give you the antibiotics before labor?
If tested positive for strep b what happens next ?
Ugh I tested positive for group b strep 😞 this sucks ass.
Has anyone tested positive for the Group Strep B test?.. because I did..
Anyone ever test positive for Group strep b early in their pregnancy? I just got a call I tested positive for it ☹️
Did anyone test positive for their group b strep test?
Even if you are positive, the antibiotics are just a precaution. Without treatment only 1/1000 babies is effected by a mother who has it and if 1/3 of women test positive, that's only 1/3000 babies that would even be affected if no one was ever tested or treated... So if you test negative for it, it's not very smart to give your baby unneeded antibiotics that CAN actually hurt them if they become immune to those specific ones and then later need them. Just saying (to the lady who wants to be treated while negative)
