Father's race and mother's religion?

Father's race and mother's religion?

Has anyone else ever heard this? I find it an absurd notion. My husband is white and I am Hispanic. Does that mean my children are automatically white? Genuinely curious!

On school forms and what have you you should have the option to choose other and that is what I'm going to encourage my children to select.

But technically you are what your father is...

I had never heard of this! I can't say I agree with it at all, but It might help me out with the argument I am having with DH over baptism though :-)

Thanks for all the feedback. I love learning about different cultures! It's so interesting!

I don't care for all the political correctness. SO refers to himself as Hispanic, American and Ecuadorian, so I go by that. My kids are all of those and black. Simple.

With natives its what your mother is. Like you take your mothers clan if your in the same tribe. I am chippewa and cree from my mom and crow from my dad. But I only identify with my mothers side. My hubby does the same. He is chippewa, cree, assinaboine and sioux from his mom and mexican from his dad. He claims assinaboine cree.

Generally most cultures whatever the father is thats what the child race is. So that makes us only incubators lol

Personally I could not just identify with my dad's race Mexican/puerto Rican and deny my mother's race because I would be denying much of who I am....

Hispanic is not a race its an ethnicity. There are Hispanics of all races from white to black. And everythingin between.

I come from a Mexican family but my dh family is Honduran so I would just say my kid will be Latino or Hispanic.

I never know what to put for my kids. I'm white, hubs is Asian. Ok our oldest son is white/blonde hair/blue eyes. You'd never guess he was half Asian. Our younger son is all Asian. You'd never guess he's half white.

The Supreme Court ruled that Judaism was a race too in the 1980s.

Judaism follows the mother. The Mishnah says to be a Jew you need to convert or have a Jewish mother (if its a mixed marriage)

When I did my sons birth certificate we picked Native American for his race which is mine. He is a lot more than just that but that is the hardest to prove down the road without paperwork.

My son is just referred to as mixed since both me and his dad are a many races. It's just easier than saying Mexican Hawaiian black Filipino Native American and Portuguese and as far as religion we are both Christian so that's easy.

Never heard of father's race, but have heard of mother's religion especially in the Mormon and Jewish community.

This is an old school view, that i don't agree with. Nowadays, forms have more ethinicity options to choose from. My kids are black and hispanic. That is what I mark down and tell people. It doesn't feel right to leave out one side/culture.

I will let my kids choose what they want to put when they are older. My hubby filled out the birth certificates for our boys. I have no idea what he filled in for race/ethnicity.

Being Jewish (my husband is a Ashkenazi Jew) is both. Judaism is the religion...and there are many different Jewish ethnicity. Ashkenazi being one of them.

My df is Irish, we told everyone our son was too. (where he got his attitude)

But we have done tons of history searches on myself and my family only goes back to my great great grandparents. So no clue, We just stick to Irish

When I was in the hospital on my sons application for his birth certificate it asked his race. I asked the vital records lady what to put because he is biracial. She told me whatever my race is that his. I just left the race blank. My son is not just one race and I will not just acknowledge one side.

That's how we do it. I mean technically we are both white, but my husband is Jewish which is also considered an ethnicity and when asked my kids are Jewish (also by religion as well, as they have all had a Brit Shalom). I am not Jewish.

that's what I heard.

I always mark African-American/black on things if it's asked because thats what my father is...btw my mom is Mexican

I think maybe back in the 50's that could've been the case, but not now.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?
