Honestly a hand pump would be fine just in case of an emergency where you left the house and you are leaking remember you need to train your boobs it's weird but if the baby feeds every 2 to 3 hours your boobs get use to the cycle so you might have to go run some errands and well the hand pump might become useful also another way I could say you would need it its if the baby doesn't latch on then you will possibly need one

A pump is nice, just in case. You can get a cheap one for emergencies. They are expensive, so if you don't think you need it, I'd pick up a cheap hand pump. They are killer on your hand though. Walmart has bottles for $1, so you could grab one or two for cheap. When my son was 6 weeks old, I was unexpectedly in the hospital overnight with my daughter. I didn't have anything pumped, so he was on formula for that time period. I will have a few bottles worth pumped, just in case, even though I won't be working and plan on exclusively breastfeeding.

Have one in case of emergency n u have to leave baby wit papa or grandma or etc bcuz those boobies will b out if reach so if you pump n store your mind is at ease when away dealing with your situation

Nah I don't think you have to have one, but if you do get one then check out what your insurance will cover. I just recently ordered one online for free because my insurance covered it completely. Personally, I feel that I will need it because I will be working full time so they babysitter will need something to feed my baby. But it's up to you!

Insurance pays for it. I have milk pumped for when I work. Sometimes I want to go out with my bf or friends or even to the grocery store alone and need to leave milk

The affordable care act requires insurance to help or maybe even pay for the entire breastfeeding pump

Do you get wic? They can let you borrow a pump if you wanted to use one

I didn't really use mine , they are handy if you want/need to pop out somewhere for a few hours and leave expressed milk but my son refused a bottle so that didn't work out for me ...I did use it in the beginning when I was getting engorged and needed a bit of relief but that was just the first few weeks till my milk settled down.

I pumped to burn more calories and donate. But baby only had a bottle twice for date night. It was nice to have the stash In the freezer and it helped me lose the weight faster.

If you do decide to get a pump, check with your health insurance first! many insurances cover them

Just remember when you pump after a feeding your telling your body to make more milk.

I breast fed my son for 17 months and pumped maybe once a month. Just go put some milk in the freezer.

Their also hand expressing to relieve so pressure.

But it's nice to have for those just incase moments.

When my lo was first born she didn't empty my breasts enough so they got engorged after almost every feeding so I would pump just 5-10 minutes after she got her fill to empty them. After s few weeks it evened out. I pump to keep some for the babysitter while I work but weekends she is exclusively to the boob.

My friend has a 3 month baby and she always stresses to me to pump! She said she didn't pump enough and is starting to dry up. Plus it's always good to have on hand. You never know

Pumps are really nice to have when you get engorged, I also liked having a stash in the freezer for babysitters :) It's completely up to you, women bf their babies forever without pumps and did just fine!

I would be fearful if baby isn't taking it at first and your milk is filling your breast. Or what if something happens where you need to be somewhere or anything... I would be worried about situations like that.

Nope! I exclusively breastfeed and we're good to go. 5 months strong now :)
