My son had been day time and nap time trained since about 20months, he can't manage through the night yet x

My daughter has been day time fully trained since 18 months. I haven't tried for nap/ bedtime yet...

Just thought I would give an update she is pretty much completely potty trained as long as we are at home. Uses the potty all by herself without having to be told. We are now working on wearing panties out. It seems to matter how many times she goes right before we leave she pees in the car.

I know this post is slightly old. My son recently has started saying "poo" and pulling his pants down. He won't sit on the potty though - more he wants a clean nappy on to poo in (unless he wants to do it on the floor urgh!). So I agree with PP that they will do it when they're ready. He's obviously now become aware of what his body is doing.

I have four kids and they all potty trained at different times. My oldest daughter wasn't fully potty trained until 4. Here's the thing, they will do it when they're ready and it's best to let them lead. After I realized this and I let go of worrying what people thought, my kids potty trained themselves. I mean....they don't like the feel of wet diapers so if they live in a secure environment where they're supported, they will use the potty when it's convenient for their little selves. ?

I cheated and let him play with Fisher Price apps on the iPod touch to get him to stay on the potty. Then had to wean him off of that but it was worth it. He would go sit on the potty clothed and beg for the iPod.

Things have kind of clicked the past couple days with our daughter. She has been peeing in the potty all by herself. Still yet to poop. I think I'm going to go over to the sticker reward system. Her candy habit is getting out of control lol

@ charlidee, I would just watch his cues and when you see him start to go or try to go I would just sit him on the potty and encourage him to go there. Eventually he'll put it all together. If you were giving a little candy or sticker for the pee I would give two for the poop and make a real big celebration out of it. When she was learning we did two stickers when she went poop in her potty and she loved to stick them on and decorate her potty.

My son will pee in the potty but thats it hell be 2 July 10th any suggestions on how to get.him to poop on the potty without forcing the issue?

I have been trying for a couple weeks now. We do panties all day and for the first couple hours she is really good after that it's out the window. If she has a diaper on she will pee and freaks out and has to take it off. So I know she is ready but just refuses to do it on her own.

My 22 month old has been trained since 20 months. Our doctor said once they can walk down stairs they have the muscle control to hold it. We were advised not to wait past 24 months to introduce the potty as it is more difficult then. Supposedly there is a big neurological change that happens at 2 where the child learns they are independent from their parents and usually demand more control and so getting them to do anything they don't want to do can be difficult. We used the PottyTrain in Three Days Book by Lois Kleint. It took my daughter about 5 days but we haven't had an accident in about 5 weeks. She still wears a pull up at night but it's usually dry.

We bought a potty when my son was about 15 mo and we'd let him sit on it and play with it. We tried a few days in undies but he didn't care to use the potty and I didn't push it. Then less than a month ago I decided to give him a naked day and everything clicked. I even let him nap and sleep naked and he's never wet the bed. After a few days I let him be fully clothed and he's fully potty trained. It was way too easy and really surprised me!

I think 2.5 years is a prefect time. Starting too early could stress child and you out too.

So many people have told me not to try with boys til about 2.5-3 yrs. Waiting at least til he can communicate better. I don't want to set him back before we even start.

I tried a couple weeks ago but stopped... he wouldn't sit on potty long enough. I needa try again soon
